Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Rex Huppke: Convoy riders came, in underwhelming numbers, and accomplished little beyond showing everyone how tragically gullible they are. That's MAGA in a nutshell: loud and, in the end, impotent.

More: Convoy-goer Misty Gregory told MSNBC: "It's not what I expected, but then again I don't know what I expected. I can tell you it's not as bad as what I thought, so that's kind of eye-opening in itself."

Abbott and about a dozen other pro-razor-wire GOP governors were in Eagle Pass on Sunday, hollering and whatnot. Some residents said the recent invasion of Trump supporters from the convoy had been downright scary.

"We are constantly being told that we're being invaded, and that never felt true until today, when the convoy came to town in anticipation of the governors' event," Jessie F. Fuentes told WOAI NBC News Channel 4. "This is political theater by outsiders. The reality is that it has brought dangerous, violent groups into our beautiful, peaceful city. Eagle Pass is safer than most cities in America if you look at crime statistics. This is just a fact. We don't appreciate these staged events that dramatically misrepresent our reality on the border and that invite extremist groups that pose a real danger to people in our community."

Why wasn't BellRinger questioned about this invasion?

He's been keeping an eye on the southern border from his trailer up in Michigan.

It's going to yuge!

Even bigger than the caravans and flotillas that were coming when Obama was president.

The editorial is spot on.

The problem is the constant stream of being hood winked is part of their bitterness complex.

They fall for the same tricks every time and, after a while, learn they've been had again and get pissed.

But never at themselves for constantly being dumb enough to be fooled.

But being extremist and misrepresenting reality is what they do! It's their thing!

If they didn't have that they'd have nothing.

It's just a grift?

paper tiger?

Are you sure? These folks are being blamed for why a republican can't be reasonable, why Trump was allowed to remain on the ballot even in blue states, why people like Zed can't leave his house, why Nikki Haley is requesting a security detail.

The list goes on and on.......now they are nothing but a bunch of limp dicks?

How often do you get out of your insurance office and talk to people who would probably never be your customers?

The world is full of all kinds of different people. And I suspect you spend most of your time with only a small cross section. I used to use an insurance agent who pretty much only hung out at the gold course, or Chamber of Commerce functions, or church, when he wasn't in his office. His views were often similar to yours.

-How often do you get out of your insurance office and talk to people who would probably never be your customers?

I have 3 kids who have attended private school. That means hundreds - thousands of hours spent volunteering, coaching, raising money, etc.

I'm active in my industry association, I sit on several boards and I get to travel from time to time.

I talk to a lot of people who aren't my customers nor related to my business.

I'm probably in the top 10% of people on this place with regards to being social and "getting out of my office".

Your point with that question?

#14 | Posted by eberly at 2024-02-07 02:54 PM | Reply

And I agree with this article, BTW.

it's a con, and they are limp dicks.

But I've been saying that and you've all been losing your minds about it.

Now someone writes an opinion piece and you agree with it.

Yesterday, these goons were keeping Trump on the ballot in almost every state because they have so much impact, those states are literally afraid of these people

Today, "limp dicks"

You may need to re-read my comment more carefully. I think your answer pretty much confirms what I've said. Whether they're your customers or not, you pretty much stick to socializing within your own socio-economic group...

You'd see a much more diversified section of the populace if your kids went to a public school. I guess I understand why you protect them... At the same time, you protect them from much of reality.

I see it in a couple of my grandsons who live in a gated community and attend private school. They lack empathy and an understanding of diversity. They'll never know that most people struggle to live paycheck to paycheck, day to day (people that aren't likely to be your customers). But they'll probably never have to worry about it.

...I do hope that your kids are exposed to more of the real world outside of that private school, than my grandsons.

not necessarily. Not where I live.

How many more assumptions and judgements do you have for me?

Oh, and how does my comments on this thread lead you to make these judgements and assumptions of my personal life?

That's got to be heartbreaking.

You could probably help change that by traveling with them. Show them the world and how other people live before they are ruined by their privilege.

They probably know it. That's not why you're so disappointed in them.

It's that you want them to care more....and their parents.

Maybe be a little more happy for your kid's success that they can afford to provide for your grandkids and give them the opportunities they seem to be getting.

Instead of running them down on an anonymous blog at the same time you're trying insult me.

.....I do hope you figure out how to get along with your family better.

Thanks. I do what I can, when I can get time with them them. They live with the father of my deceased daughter. Opportunities are limited.

#19 | POSTED BY EBERLY

Since that daughter is gone. I am happy that those kids are financially taken care of. Overall, he's not a bad father.

I may have misunderstood your point at #11.
I agree with most of #15

#14...
I was merely attempting to point out that your life and views of society often seem to be disconnected from most peoples reality, similar to my grandsons father. If what I've said insults you, I've struck some truth.

As it's an anonymous blog, we know little about each other. If we knew each other in real life we might even be friends. Although I doubt it. I didn't care much for that other insurance agent either.

Perhaps we should stop such digging. But that's not likely on an anonymous blog...

I love how the big example of getting out of your bubble is pouring all of your time into events with other private school kids and their parents. Lmfao.

I don't disagree and perhaps Whatsleft and I weren't really on the same page. I thought he wanted to know if I talk to people who are not my customers. Do I work/socialize, etc. with people and it's not about business?

I do....but I agree that doesn't represent me getting outside my bubble either.

The southern border is nothing but propaganda.

It's convinced idiots who live no where near the southern border to embrace xenophobia and hate immigrants.

Republicans are morons.

They are bound to one another by their hatred.

"Join the Republican Party and embrace your hate."

But if they haven't already been embarrassed, there's probably no hope.
