Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The editor of Cleveland's The Plain Dealer writes a column addressing the many letters he has received about the newspaper's coverage of former President Donald Trump. "The north star here is truth. We tell the truth, even when it offends some of the people who pay us for information. The truth is that Donald Trump undermined faith in our elections in his false bid to retain the presidency. He sparked an insurrection intended to overthrow our government and keep himself in power. No president in our history has done worse. This is not subjective. We all saw it."

The north star here is truth. We all saw it. Plenty of leaders today try to convince the masses we did not see what we saw, but our eyes don't deceive.

Amen.

"The March 25 edition of the New Yorker magazine offers some insight. It includes a detailed review of a new book about Adolf Hitler, focused on the year 1932. It's called "Takeover: Hitler's Final Rise to Power" and is by historian Timothy W. Ryback. It explains how German leaders " including some in the media -- thought they could use Hitler as a means to get power for themselves and were willing to look past his obvious deficiencies to get where they wanted. In tolerating and using Hitler as a means to an end, they helped create the monstrous dictator responsible for millions of deaths."

DING DING DING!!!

OUTSTANDING OP-ED

There is one thing I take issue with in this Op-Ed, he gives too much of a pass to ------- supporters. They are not the innocent being bamboozled by a magician.

They are complicit in the threat ------- poses. They are the little eichmanns that will fill his administration and enforce his will. They do not get a pass from me.

------- is too obvious a grifter, his lies too obvious, his truth to plain to see. No, I do not give his supporters a pass.

... Plenty of leaders today try to convince the masses we did not see what we saw, but our eyes don't deceive. ...

Well, there are "facts" and there are what Kellyanne Conway calls "alternative facts."

imo, the latter are lies.

Alternative facts
en.wikipedia.org

... Alternative facts" was a phrase used by U.S. Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway during a Meet the Press interview on January 22, 2017, in which she defended White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer's false statement about the attendance numbers of Donald Trump's inauguration as President of the United States. When pressed during the interview with Chuck Todd to explain why Spicer would "utter a provable falsehood", Conway stated that Spicer was giving "alternative facts". Todd responded, "Look, alternative facts are not facts. They're falsehoods."[1] ...

Yep. Lies.

Yet...

@#3

Yet, a large number of American voters believe the "alternative facts" that fmr Pres Trump and his supporters propagate.

Why?

Is a belief in lies necessary to be a part of a cult?

Religion (aka spiritual north korea) is why. People don't understand belief from facts and one political party like to play the middle of this. Just because you feel something does not make you right. Truth and fact have evidence that can withstand questioning.

When you get all your "news and information" from sources notoriously short on facts and honesty (Faux, et al), what do you expect?

In tolerating and using Hitler as a means to an end, they helped create the monstrous dictator responsible for millions of deaths.

It's as if complicit elected republicans are incapable of learning the lesson from the many people surrounding Trump have learned: In a second term, Trump will not be steered away from doing what he wants to do. That's partly what his claim of immunity is about; not just what he has done but what he WILL do if given a second term.

It is good that the SCOTUS will weigh in on the immunity issue. Hopefully, they will not go for a "narrow" decision specific only to the case at hand as they usually do but will go for a very broad one that will cover all situations.

Only a corrupt supreme court would say the president is above the law, which would enable a totalitarian to do this.

"Personally, I find it hard to understand how Americans who take pride in our system of government support Trump. All those soldiers who died in World War II were fighting against the kind of regime Trump wants to create on our soil. How do they not see it?"

Me too. But I also find it hard to understand how American who take pride in our system of government Support Bernie Sanders. The only thing that makes him less dangerous than Trump is that his positions don't resonate as well with the population's writ-large as Trump's do.

And the biggest reason that Trump's message resonates with even those in the center is that the Dems (and Repubs) have failed to provide a meaningful alternative.

Um...just to point his out, virtually every one of the liars you mentioned used to be considered liars by the left.

Prior to COVID, the anti-vax thing was mostly a left-wing fringe, anti-big pharma bloc. Although there were some weird Christian anti vax groups as well

Generals were supporters of the military industrial complex and supporters of western capitalist imperialism

The police are still the bad guys-I guess until they are not.

FBI and DOJ? COINTELPRO? Infiltrating left-wing groups? C'mon, until the Trump inspired the crazies on the right to crawl out of the rocks they'd been hiding under, Law Enforcement was always seen by the left as an enemy. Let's not even get into the CIA or the other intelligence agencies.

My point is that the right-wing today, really looks a whole lot like the left-wing from
