"This is cowardice, a moment of darkness that will leave democracy as a casualty," [Washington Post Executive Editor Martin] Baron said in a statement to NPR. "Donald Trump will celebrate this as an invitation to further intimidate The Post's owner, Jeff Bezos (and other media owners). History will mark a disturbing chapter of spinelessness at an institution famed for courage."

"Jeff Bezos killed Washington Post endorsement of Kamala Harris, paper reports

"The decision not to publish was made by The Post's owner " Amazon
founder Jeff Bezos," The Post reported, citing two sources briefed on the events.

Trump, while president, had been critical of Bezos and The Post.

In a 2019 lawsuit, Amazon claimed it had lost a $10 billion cloud computing contract with the Pentagon to Microsoft because Trump had used "improper pressure ... "to harm his perceived political enemy" Bezos."

'

"Marty Baron, the former editor of The Post, in a tweet called The Post's non-endorsement "cowardice, with democracy as its casualty."

@realdonaldtrump will see this as an invitation to further intimidate owner @jeffbezos (and others)," Baron wrote.

"Disturbing spinelessness at an institution famed for courage."

Rep. Ted Lieu, a Democrat from California, in his own tweet on the news wrote, "The first step towards fascism is when the free press cowers in fear."

More at the link. The prestigious Editorial Guild calls this interference in Editorial Boards by Management... and also, 'Cowardice".

It appears that Bezos didn't want to lose another $10 billion, or more, to the fanatic Fascist Trump.

Or have himself and his reporters imprisoned as Trump has threatened.

He didn't get to be the world's 3rd (?) wealthiest man by being stupid. Anything he can do to placate Trump works to his advantage since it looks like we're sending Trump waddling back to the White House.

Jill Stein 2024!

I thought they were on the same ticket. No?

I'm sure I've read here several times how a vote for Stein is a vote for Trump.

Sure! Maybe appoint RFK Junior surgeon general, Cornel West attorney general, and Ayatollah Ashahollah secretary of defense while we're at it.

Roll up those sleeves people and elect Trump/Stein 2024! Our kakistocracy isn't going to build itself.

WWND, What would Navalny Do?
It really does feel that American institutions are under attack from the billionaire caste...From DC to LA, the people are losing their media. This must have been what it felt like in Russia when Putin became a dictator and his oligarchs stole the country blind...cutting up the old Soviet Union into pieces so each could run their own empire.

Who needs their endorsement.

The hilarious thing is the "lack of endorsement" made more news than the endorsement.

#7 | POSTED BY CORKY

Could be that, my guess is Harris talking about going after unrealized wealth got in the way of endorsement.

Newspapers used to be something to make money for their owners.
Now they are just playthings for billionaires.

@#16 ... Now they are just playthings for billionaires. ....

Like the playthings some politicians seem to be. (can you say Sen Vance and Mr Thiel? I knew you could.)

But that is a different thread.

I'll say it again. Ownership of major media in this country is, at least, complicit with Project 2025.

Complicit?

I am far from that conclusion at this point.

But, do the billionaire owners of major media seem to use their ownership to influence public opinion?

Based upon the two recent examples, I'd say, yes.

I cancelled my WaPo subscription today and let them know exactly why. Their editorial of why they did this was utter nonsense. It was rationalization for what was already decided.

LA Times billionaire owner killed the paper's endorsement of Harris as well.

Gonna get a huge tax cut.

Stevie Wonder - Ngiculela-Es Una Historia-I Am Singing (1976)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt...

genius.com

...
Ngiculela ikusasa
Ngiyacula ngo thando
Ngicula ngelinyi langa
Uthando luyobusa
Jikelele kulomhlaba wethu

Es una historia de maana
Es una historia de amor
Es una historia que amor reinar
Por nuestro mundo
Es una historia de mi corazn

There's songs to make you smile
There's songs to make you sad
But with a happy song to sing
It never seems as bad
To me came this melody
So I've tried to put in words how I feel
Tomorrow will be for you and me

I am singing of tomorrow
I am singing of love
I am singing someday love will reign
Throughout this world of ours
I am singing of love from my heart
...

Singing for tomorrow ...

LA Times and WaPo are rabidly anti-Trump and water carriers for Democrats but that isn't good enough for the left.

I had too many conscriptions, so what Bezos did helped me make the decision on the Post. Change really and truly is all around us, and we have to keep our "wits about us" as we wander about in the dark forest of this election season.
