President Donald Trump "blinked" on his tariffs against Canada and Mexico before they could cause real harm to the economy, the conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board wrote on Monday.

Mexico & Canada did literally nothing to stop the Trump tariffs. The stock market stopped the tariffs as Wall Street always assumed it would.

Canada and Mexico caved and agreed to do what they previously were doing under Biden.

Thats the fart of the deal.

This is going to end up like the debt ceiling fiasco. Every 30 days another panic deadline to deal with.

Blinked?

He got his ass handed to him.

But he is now taking a victory lap and that is all that matters.

He just needs to look like he is doing something. Actual facts mean nothing.

Trump's tariff reversal feeds reputation as paper tiger on trade
www.moneycontrol.com

... President Donald Trump pledged hundreds of billions in tariffs to remake the global economy and target even his closest neighbors.
But so far, it's been more Art of the Deal than a revolution.

Trump on Monday shelved plans for wide-ranging tariffs on Canada and Mexico, after doing the same for Colombia the prior week. In each case, Trump relented despite countries promising only modest changes on border security and immigration.

Trump and his allies have held up those concessions as vindication of his approach. But the US president's willingness - at least for now - to hold off tariffs has underscored doubts over whether Trump, who famously obsesses over market performance, might once again prove a paper tiger on his more fiery trade threats. ...

Trump Blinked on North American Tariffs

No he didn't. This was always part of Trump's plan. It's all stock manipulation so Trump and his billionaire allies can profit from the swings.

Yeah, I noticed that also.

Pres Trump is taking a victory lap when Canada and Mexico have handed his most ample derriere back to him.

But this is only phase one.

In a month, I suspect we will be discussing this topic again.

Will Pres Trump back down once again, tail between his legs, a month from now?

At this point, I have to ask, is Pres Trump trying to turn his policies with other countries into a serial drama/comedy to do little more than draw attention to himself?

I'm thinking of the daytime soap operas.

Yep. And yes, we might see this again in a month, unless he learned his lesson from this fiasco.
The markets and everyone else, including the WSJ went ------- over this clusterfcck of nonsense.
I'm sure that's one of the main reasons he caved so quickly.

Status quo? So that he could back off with his tail between his legs?

No, I am not happy about that scenario.

In some respects, I would agree.

Pres Trump has seen the blow back from his ~tail between the legs~ retreat from his original tariff mess.

So, in 30 days, yeah, what may happen?

The 30-days aspect aside ...

I have to ask, is this the way we treat our friends going forward?

Subjecting them to constant vacuous whims of punishment?

Maybe another question to ask is, does Pres Trump have any actual personal friends? If so, how does he treat them? Does he understand the concept of friendship?

Yes, we already know that if you didn't see the reporting then (for you) it didn't happen. Unless it's something you "feel" has to be true. Then no matter what, you won't be swayed.

The change that was needed was Obrador out and Sheinbaum in.

"One sticking point for Mexicans in negotiations with Americans over fentanyl, as NBC News previously reported, was the high number of U.S.-made guns that end up in Mexico, contributing to violence in the country. As part of the negotiations, the Justice Department is agreeing to do more to trace gun flow from the U.S. to Mexico."

Your link showed an informal agreement on both sides.

Nothing about 10,000 troops being sent to the border. Good on the Biden admin to take a measure to try and reduce fentanyl coming in. This recent deal was about more than just fentanyl. It was about strengthening the border as a whole.

Yav, your link is weak sauce. I see this most recent handshake as a net positive from a policy standpoint. As we move forward I don't care whether deals and outcomes make Trump look good or bad. I care about results and outcomes.

Another embarrassing outcome for Trump. Not that any MAGAts are informed enough or smart enough to understand it. But the rest of us do. Especially the leaders of other nations. Trump is weak and stupid. He will walk right into the fist heading for America's jaw. Again and again. And each time MAGA will yell out, "Hizzah!". I do not believe that any time in my lifetime has America appeared so weak to the rest of the world. And it is only just beginning. Even Jimmy Carter looked like the Incredible Hulk compared to the Orange Puss.

~ Moder8

I don't think so.

Ministry of Defense, Mexico:
At 1:41 p.m., the Mazatln Area Control Center informed the National Center for Surveillance and Protection of Airspace (CENAVI) that it detected a flight 83 km southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, outside of Mexican airspace over international waters.

Boeing RC-135V Rivet Joint spying on cartels, most likely. However, interestingly, the USS Nimitz Carrier Battlegroup is currently also in the vicinity.

#42 | POSTED BY REDIAL

US planes have previously been fired upon by SA countries, flying in international waters. This is a first, and Mexico knew it was happening.

US had to identify and get permission to fly through the ADIZ unescorted.

Related:
ADIZ stands for Air Defense Identification Zone, which is a region of airspace where a country monitors aircraft for national security.
ADIZs can extend beyond a country's borders to give the country more time to respond to aircraft that may be hostile.

How do ADIZs work?
Countries unilaterally declare ADIZs.
ADIZs help identify aircraft near a country's international airspace boundaries.
Aircraft must file a flight plan before entering an ADIZ.
Aircraft must provide a position report before entering an ADIZ.
Aircraft must have a functioning two-way radio and listen to the appropriate aeronautical facility's frequency.

What it proves is the US and Mexico have begun cooperation.
