Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, February 18, 2024

In laying the foundation for his sweeping decision against former President Donald Trump, Judge Arthur Engoron observed that "this is a venial sin, not a mortal sin." Yet, at $355 million, one would think that Engoron had found Trump to be the source of Original Sin. The judgment against Trump (and his family and associates) was met with a level of unrestrained celebration by many in New York that bordered on the indecent. Attorney General Letitia James declared not only that Trump would be barred from doing business in New York for three years, but that the damages would come to roughly $460 million once interest was included. That makes the damages against Trump greater than the gross national product of some countries, including Micronesia. Yet the court admitted that not a single dollar was lost by the banks from these dealings.

Why do you even bother to argue you're not MAGA?

So we've reached the part of the day where the people who definitely aren't MAGAts lament how our society persecutes poor billionaire fraudster Hair Furor?

Donald Trump got rich by violating the law through fraud.

Millions of Americans will never get rich because they choose to be honest.

Yet here you are, defending the criminal.

Jonathon Turley?

Who would have guessed it, roflmao!

And his premise?

If the bank robber is later caught and the bank doesn't actually lose any money, why then, no crime was committed... or at least the bank robber should merely get a slap on the hand.

#8 | Posted by Corky at 2024-02-18 11:13 AM | Reply

No victims. The banks were repaid with interest. The court determined that the property was deliberately misvalued which is a civil crime. That crime comes with a Penalty. All fair IMO.

~$340 million and then with retroactive interest well over $400 million? For a civil crime lacking a single victim?

That's grossly unjust.

In this case Trump was wrong by committing fraud. The court is ALSO wrong by imposing such an absurd and unjust penalty.

Is this really difficult to grasp?

"$340 million and then with retroactive interest well over $400 million?"

Is the $340M grossly unjust, or just the $400M in interest?

#11 | Posted by snoofy at 2024-02-18 11:36 AM | Reply

"No victims. The banks were repaid with interest."

Rates are determined by cash on hand and assets. Trump lied about both. Fraud victims were investors in the bank stock, and honest competitors.

Are you gaslighting, or do you not understand the equation?

#12. I'm not claiming he is innocent.

I'm only disputing the penalty. How much do you think it sho7ld be? $100 Billion?

Oh, you're doing more than that.

I'd like to mention that I have never, not once, had any MAGA explain clearly why they so dearly love Donald Trump.

I've been thinking it's something sick that can't be admitted to.

I think I'm right.

Don't look for an explanation from me, Zed. I'm not MAGA and I can't stand Trump.

Hypothetical: if some rabid Trump hater managed to dodge security and punch Trump in the back of the head knocking him unconscious and leaving him with a concussion should that person be charged with assault and battery?

If you are helping Trump, then you are helping Trump no matter the excuse.

While defending Trump at every step.

Trump, the THIEF, deserves to be soaked financially for his MANY crimes.

YOU think that scabrous personality is being treated unfairly.

Why not defend, for a change, someone that Orange Jesus hurt?

Considering Trump's lack of deportment in a courtroom and his non-stop vilification of authority in his campaign speeches, I'd guess that his groupies like the way he's 'sticking it to the man.'

Trump goes with whatever gets him the most cheers for as long as it lasts.

Eventually, as he loses his appeals, I fully expect him to revert back to his old tried and true "Lock her up," referring to Alitia James, Fani Willis and eventually Judge Tanya Chutkan.

Trump is nothing if not an actor in his role of a long-suffering martyr.

Who is the "victim" in a prostitution case?

A crime was committed. Fraud was committed. Trumpy benefits from these crimes and these frauds. The victim is the banks and the state of New York.

The penalty had to be large enough to make the perp who is allegedly a billionaire and who is a pathological liar and serial fraud who showed no remorse for his crimes think twice about doing it again.

Trumpy's behavior was so transparently fraudulent it could not be allowed to go unpunished as a deterrent to him any anyone else who thinks like him.

Like you. Apparently.

$355 million is an obscene amount of money.

So I guess Trump's reputed net worth of $2.6B is eight times more obscene.

Am I reading Jonathan Turley correctly?

What's obscene is the amount of money Trump profited from fraud. The court just clawed back the same amount. Dishonesty isn't supposed to pay dividends when you get caught.

Trump enjoyed the steak. Now let him pay for it.

#9 | POSTED BY BELLRINGER

If you followed the trial then you would know that there are victims. The victims are the lenders and their investors because they could were denied the additional profit they could have made on higher lending rates had accurate information been submitted in Trump's applications. The state clearly explained that, the court accepted the argument as a factor in the decision.

You are spreading one of Trump's lies. Why do you so easily accept and willingly spread his lies when you claim to view him with disgust?

Was it a penalty, or was it the amount (plus interest) that Trump. Inc cheated NY State out of because of the fraud your current alias admits Trump, Inc committed?
