Good for the Bishop of Rome to not waste time with the coach-humper when there are adults in the room he could be conferring with.

The hardworking American taxpayer has been funding JD and Usha's vacations: Italy twice, Greenland (if you want to count that), India, ski trip to Vermont, and Israel next week. Ain't life grand? At least Usha won't get humiliated in Jerusalem.

Looks that way.

More from the cited article ...

... The first American pope shook Vance's hand during a brief, 17-second exchange during the procession line after the mass.

Leo met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra on Sunday after celebrating his inaugural Mass, which included world leaders from Canada, Italy, Germany, and other European Union officials in the audience.

The snub comes after the pope subtly criticized Vance and the Trump administration during his sermon, which has expelled and terrorized migrants and prompted seizing foreign land and resources, including Greenland. ...

I wonder how many people have now had the honor and the privilege of snubbing Shady JD?

Also, I bet there's people who would pay to. Maybe I'll start a new business... 100k a Pop, whada ya say?

Yes, Bill. Abortion isn't the Basics. That would be faith, hope, and love.

Abortion is something that the Hebrew priests provided for in teas for when necessary.

Corky,

The legal recognition of gay marriage within secular culture lies outside the Pope's authority. Civil governments operate independently of church doctrine, and while his opinion is grounded in religious conviction, it carries no legal weight.

Still, he likely sees this cultural shift not as progress, but as a sign of moral decline and an unraveling of traditional values that once defined human dignity and social cohesion.

But really...what does he know?

He doesn't have sex.

Corky,

He thinks killing the unborn is sin.

But he also believes using contraceptives is, too.

But really...what does he know?

He thinks preventing pregnancy is wrong and so is ending one after it begins.

It's hard to take moral advice on sex and reproduction from someone who's never experienced either.

While the modern concept and legal recognition of gay marriage are relatively recent, the history of same-sex unions and relationships spans centuries across various cultures.
Historical Instances of Same-Sex Unions:
* Ancient Rome: Several Roman emperors reportedly entered into same-sex unions. Nero is said to have married two men on separate occasions, once taking the role of the bride and once the groom. Emperor Elagabalus also reportedly married two men. These unions, while documented, did not have legal provisions under Roman law and were later banned in the Roman Empire.
* Ancient Mesopotamia: The Almanac of Incantations, an ancient text, contains prayers that favored same-sex unions similarly to heterosexual unions.
* Ancient China: During the Zhou Dynasty, stories like that of Pan Zhang and Wang Zhongxian suggest domestic partnerships between men that were viewed by the community similarly to heterosexual marriages, though without formal religious ceremonies.
* Medieval Europe: The practice of "embrotherment" (affrrement) in late medieval France allowed unrelated adult males to enter legal contracts to live together and share resources. While not explicitly about sexual relationships due to the Church's stance, these unions were considered binding. Some scholars also argue that the Roman Catholic Church may have recognized same-sex unions in medieval Europe through the ritual of adelphopoiesis (brother-making), though this interpretation is debated.
* Early Modern Period:
* In 1590, the Boxer Codex recorded same-sex marriage as a normal occurrence among the indigenous population of the Philippines.
* In 1781, in Norway, Jens Andersson, who identified as male, was imprisoned for marrying Anne Kristine Mortensdotter in a Lutheran church.
* In 1834, Anne Lister, often called "the first modern lesbian," married Ann Walker in England, though this union was not legally recognized at the time.
* Africa: In pre-colonial Africa, some societies allowed women to marry other women, particularly widows who did not wish to remarry men.
* Native American Cultures: Some Native American tribes recognized "two-spirit" individuals, who were often seen as having both male and female spirits. In some tribes, these individuals were permitted to marry people of the same biological sex.
Modern Legalization of Same-Sex Marriage:
* The Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide in 2001.
* In the United States, the first legal same-sex marriage ceremony occurred in 2004 in San Francisco, although these licenses were later voided.
* Massachusetts became the first U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage on May 17, 2004, following a ruling by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
* On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, recognizing the right to marry as guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment.
Therefore, while the formal legal recognition of gay marriage is a recent development in many parts of the world, historical records and anthropological studies indicate various forms of same-sex unions and relationships existed in different cultures throughout history. These unions often carried social significance and, in some cases, were formalized through rituals or societal acceptance, although they may not have always been considered "marriage" in the same way we understand it today.

Now comment upon the political tilt (I'm being kind) of the Christians.

"Keep it out of the Church?"

So, your current alias might agree that the tax-exempt status of many Christian congregations should be revoked for the politically-oriented sermons of their Leader?

Lamp,

"So, your current alias might agree that the tax-exempt status of many Christian congregations should be revoked for the politically-oriented sermons of their Leader?"

Hey... I've been predicting it for years. It's only a matter of time before gay activists go after church doctrine.

Go for it. It needs to be settled by the Supreme Court.

They won gay marriage. They should've taken the win, gone and got gay married, and left Christian businesses alone.

I also predict they'll lose.

God will not be mocked.

Our laws may separate Church and State, but God answers to neither.

He does what He pleases. God will not tolerate man mocking His laws.

I'd proffer ... if that you are really concerned about the Constitution, there should be a concern about the politics being preached from the pulpits of the Christian churches.

If he's never been to war or led an army, does that make him ineligible to comment on it from a moral perspective?

Should I take moral advice from a 50-year-old prostitute, with decades of experience?

Hey, I'm one of the 5.5 billion people on Earth who don't really care at all about Jesus's status and certainly don't think he was God. But that doesn't mean that most of the 2.5 billion Christians get to try to have their way with everyone else, Catholics or Protestants.

If it weren't for Catholics, there wouldn't be Protestants, and what really has the Reformation accomplished? A few thousand more schisms? Yippee.

Jesus was "just another man".

He was probably a good person. He had really good morals. Unlike Christians today apparently.

But not as wise and good and caring for other sentient beings as Siddhartha Gautama.

Sid gave actual instructions for humans so that they may learn to relieve their own suffering with no need to pray to the gods to intervene. Apparently the gods are really not all that nice to humans.

If them gods are making you sad or trying scare you into worshipping them like some humans do ...
