Tuesday, July 01, 2025

As evidence mounts that voters in Trump country are getting hammered by his biggest initiatives, an economist paints a dark picture of just how bad the sum total of these policies will be for working people.

The Senate version of the legislation makes even steeper cuts to Medicaid than the $800 billion slashed in the House-passed version of the bill.

"Trump Voters Shocked at How Badly He's Screwing Them"

I don't believe it.

Are there any Trump voters here who are shocked at how bad he's screwing you?

Not a one. Not even Eberly, who didn't even vote for Trump, but still carries water for Republicans.

More from the cited article ...

... Senator Mitch McConnell just privately admitted that many Republicans are getting major blowback from their "people back home" about the bill's deep Medicaid cuts, adding that "they'll get over it."

A stunning Fox News poll just found that a majority of white men without a college degree oppose the bill.

Crucially, these voters make up "the heart of Trump's base."

Even Trump's own pollster just bluntly suggested that Trump voters are feeling betrayed. ...

Yeah, but, Pres Trump is reducing the taxes he may have to pay going forward.

So, all is OK?

Pogues - The Band Played Waltzing Matilda (1986)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
[Verse 1]
When I was a young man, I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murray's green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Matilda all over

[Verse 2]
Then in 1915, my country said, "Son
It's time to stop rambling, 'cause there's work to be done"
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war

[Chorus 1]
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed off for Gallipoli

[Verse 3]
How well I remember that terrible day
When the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that ---- that they called Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter

[Verse 4]
Johnny Turk, he was ready, he primed himself well
He showered us with bullets and he rained us with s----s
And in five minutes flat, he'd blown us all to ----
Nearly blew us right back to Australia

[Chorus]
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
And we buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then it started all over again

[Verse 5]
Now those who were living did their best to survive
In that mad world of death, blood, and fire
And for seven long weeks, I kept myself alive
While the corpses around me piled higher

[Verse 6]
Then a big Turkish s---- knocked me arse over ---
And when I awoke in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, Christ, I wished I was dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying

[Chorus 3]
And no more I'll go waltzing Matilda
To the green bushes so far and near
For to hang tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing Matilda for me

[Verse 7]
So they collected the cripples, the wounded and maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The legless, the armless, the blind and insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla

[Verse 8]
And as our ship pulled into Circular Quay
I looked at the place where me legs used to be
And thanked Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity

[Chorus 4]
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
And they turned their faces away

[Verse 9]
And now every April, I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
I see my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving their dreams of past glory

[Verse 10]
I see the old men, all twisted and torn
The forgotten heroes of a forgotten war
And the young people ask me, "What are they marching for?"
And I ask myself the same question

[Chorus 5]
And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men still answer the call
But year after year, their numbers get fewer
Someday no one will march there at all

[Outro]
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll go a-waltzing Matilda with me?
...

When the local college station first played that song, I took a step back, and asked, did I realy hear what I think I heard?

Long story short, I discovered this amazing group, The Pogues.

Their rendition of the song, "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" was so stirring to me.

... Trump Voters Shocked ...

Yeah, but the question that seems to hang out there like an unclaimed air biscuit ...

Will those Trump voters change their votes going forward, or will they just seem to say, ~oh well, that's him~ and continues to vote for Pres Trump?

My guess currently is more towards the latter.

In my view, it's a cult.

Trump voters aren't shocked by shht.

This is what they wanted.

To kill this nation.

Somehow we'll be stronger when we're isolated from the world and fighting each other in a post apocalyptic purge like society.

OK, please allow me to approach this from a different direction ...

Pres Trump, with his tariff policies, seems to be moving towards isolating the US globally from an economic perspective. Telling allies to take a long hike off a short pier?

Is that not the same punishment that the US seemed to impose upon Russia for its unprovoked invasion of the sovereign state of Ukraine?

The average yokel Republican is like the extreme Zionists.

Thy don't care if there is a humanitarian crisis, they just don't want it happening to them.

I have to give credit where credit is due.

Trump told us he was going to do all this stuff during the election, and now he's actually doing it.

Trump voters either thought Trump wouldn't it, or at least, not do it to them.

Keep in mind when considering how deserved these folks are; they would vote for Trump over again if they could.

Let them eat their cake!

Republicans have nothing to worry about.

Most Americans aren't paying attention.

Those who are will forgot by this time next year.

Democrats are horrible with messaging.

They'll probably get blamed for the devastation caused by the big beautiful bill.
