I always thought Israel recognized Palestine when they agreed to the UN partition of the land into two countries, Israel and Palestine.

Which brings up an interesting question.

Did Palestine ever have a government in 1948? 1949?

Why wasn't Palestine admitted to the UN?

Israel was admitted 1949, why didn't the UN admit Palestine?

Seems to me this would have made their claims legitimate.

I mean if the UN doesn't recognize your claim, do you even exist?
