Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A full busload of National Guard members were seen Tuesday morning picking up trash around Lafayette Park, just outside of the White House. It's part of a "beautification and restoration mission," according to the military office overseeing the soldiers and airman activated to help respond and deter crime as part of the federal government "DC Takeover." 110 Army National Guard members were picking up trash Tuesday at Lafayette Square, the National Mall, and the Tidal Basin. "We are committed to keeping DC safe and beautiful," said the official.

The Trumpf junta is masterful at wasting money, time, and resources. Many National Guardsmen are employed in far more efficient and rewarding civilian careers. The Republican governors who are sending their Guardsmen to Washington DC should reconsider deploying them after seeing this egregious and demeaning use of soldiers. The American taxpayer money wasted on the DC occupation could feed and house hundreds, if not thousands, of poor people for weeks.

Dummkopf Trumpf is edging the US into martial law and he's following Vladimir Putin's orders to a 'T.' Impoverish and anger the proletariat who will protest, then institute martial law (first in the Blue States, then Red). SCOTUS and the toothless Congress will let it happen.

Donald Trumpf Junior called Portland and Seattle "craphole cities" and wants a federal takeover of their police forces. The Trumpf junta doesn't try and disguise their intent on using the military and ICE to keeping Republicans and oligarchs in power long after 2028.

Not enough crime, so soldiers do busy work.

Shows you the level of respect the administration has for service members. Taking them away from their real jobs and their families to make them pick up trash in DC.

$1,000,000 per day for them to pick up trash and harass minorities.

But we can't afford health care and school lunches.

SPD is about as racist as they come in terms of city cops. So it's kind of funny that they're not racist enough for Trump.

This is a good example of what I've been saying for ten years now, Fascists never think the other fascists will come for them.

In the US Army this known as a "police call", and standard for soldiers, they have all sorts of jobs.

Your fake outrage, and lack of knowledge and curiosity is what is disrespectful to the military.

And why are they having to pick up trash?

Its what people in the army do.

Why cant the residents or people who live there do it?

Because they have no pride in where they live. Much like San Francisco, where they let people poop on the streets.

Can you imagine how little you must think of your home city to allow that?

POSTED BY BOAZ

Dunno. But you could just ask the folks who live down the street in your own state that.

You have some of the trashiest and poverty ridden towns in America with some of the highest crime rates in the country.

You should probably clean up your own back (and front) yards before you worry about what others across the country are doing.

Because Dear Leader demands things be "beautiful."

Because the orange s*&^heap you voted for is using the military as his own personal police force and feels like making them dance like the disposable trained monkeys he views them as.

Your fundamental flaw is you're incapable of discerning reality around you. So you're stuck asking stupid questions on par with a child.

Because Trump ordered them to.

"Why cant the residents or people who live there do it?"

Because they're Black, and Black people just go around trashing things and committing half the crimes. Including littering.

Your Country Bumpkin roots are showing.

Homeless people generally leave people alone and want to be left alone.

ICE, on the other hand, is looking for anyone with dark skin to harass and detain with no charges filed.

And who knows what the National Guard is doing. Can you say what their actual day to day activities and law enforcement priorities are? Can anyone? Not really.

Your incredibly out of touch living in a Red State attitude is reminiscent of how retarded Donald Rumsfeld was when he said "We will be greeted as liberators."

You'll find lots of trash anywhere you find lots of poor people.

There's surely a spot in your county where low class people dump old couches and tires.

Americans don't have much pride in keeping America beautiful. Most Americans believe their obligation to pick up trash ends at their property line -- if they feel that obligation at all.

There's a reason volunteer groups and state/county workers do the bulk of it.

You're right but it doesn't matter. This is where the cameras are, where the soldiers are.

Where Trump is handling the trash problem the locals in DC don't care about. (That's how it's being spun because that's what Trump wanted)

You have some of the trashiest and poverty ridden towns in America with some of the highest crime rates in the country.

Now you have lost your mind.

Here in N.C., even our ghettos look better than anything in the large cities. So much so, liberals are flocking here gentrifying every run down house in the ghetto just to live here.

Data, however, has consistently shown that unhoused people are more likely to be victims than perpetrators of violent crime. In one of the largest studies of homelessness in decades, researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) surveyed thousands of unhoused people in 2021 and 2022 and found that 36% of all participants reported experiencing physical violence during their current homelessness episode. Of those, half reported that the violence was committed by a stranger. "People experiencing homelessness are at an extraordinarily high risk of being a victim of crime, often committed by people who are housed and people who are total strangers to them," said Dr Margot Kushel, a UCSF professor of medicine and director of the Benioff Homelessness and Housing Initiative. With unhoused people increasingly criminalized and targeted for sweeps, she added: "That victimization happens in the shadows. They don't feel they can approach the police and report violence." Meanwhile, the latest available data shows that while cities across the US have been grappling with surges in homelessness since the pandemic, the Washington DC region reported a slight decrease in its unhoused population this year.
