Over the last five years, law enforcement officials say, fraud took root in pockets of Minnesota's Somali diaspora. Outrage has swelled among Minnesotans, and fraud has turned into a potent political issue in a competitive campaign season.

I clicked on this to read the discussion, the discussion is nothing but deflections. Much like your 44 is just another form of deflection. I don't have a NYT subscription so I was hoping for actual discussion to get more informed on the issue. From what I've read from other news sources, it's a staggering amount of money and seemingly pretty systemic... which is why I'd like to learn more. Usually, and more so in the distant past, this site was good place to get links to the major news stories of the day with a good spread of differing and insightful viewpoints and made for a great way to get varied view on an issue. I was hoping for that by clicking on this story... should have known better.

A group of Minnesota Somalis stealing tens of millions of dollars from American taxpayers told Minnesota's Dept. of Ed to pay up for their fake charity or they would call them racist in the media"and it worked. This whole story is utterly repulsive from start to finish.

Here is the timeline of the fraud committed by Feeding our Children.

In October of 2020 someone brought forward that fraud was happening. They stopped the payments for the program until a judge, appointed by former Governor Tim Pawlenty (R) ruled that they had acted too quickly in stopping the payments (April 2021). By May of 2021 fraud was still suspected and the FBI was contacted. Charges were filed in September of 2022 against 48 suspected involved.

So this was investigated for a long time, the cases are being brought to justice now, and people who are trying to score points against Tim Walz have no idea of the history.

#72 There are nearly 80,000 people of Somali descent in MN. About 78% live in Mpls. 58% of the Somali population was born in the US, and 87% of the foreign born are naturalized citizens. Since Walz (not Waltz you ignoramus) won by nearly 200,000 votes, please explain how the Somali vote put him over the top. But please, continue to open your mouth when you haven't a clue, and continue to confirn you are a member of the "poorly educated" tribe that Trump so loves.
