Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Despite claims by the Trump administration, a new study has found that Americans are absorbing about 96% of the costs of President Donald Trump's tariffs. Foreign companies have been paying only 4% through discounts and other tactics. The Kiel Institute for the World Economy study, obtained by The Wall Street Journal on Monday, concluded that the tariffs were likely to show up as higher consumer prices in the long term. "There is no such thing as foreigners transferring wealth to the U.S. in the form of tariffs," Bielefeld University professor Julian Hinz remarked after authoring the study.
According to Hinz, the $200 billion in tariff revenue last year "was paid almost exclusively by Americans."
The report found that the tariffs functioned as a consumption tax on Americans instead of a tax on foreign companies.

Where are the MAGA dipshits who claimed American consumers aren't paying for pedo 47's tariffs?

#3 If and when SCOTUS overturns Trump's use of tariffs, the federal government will have to refund that $200,000,000,000.00 to corporations.

Not to those of us who had to spend more because of the tariffs.

Nope. That $200,000,000,000.00 will go to the corporations who imported goods and paid the tariffs.

So, you and I paid more for goods over the past whatever months to corporations who paid the federal government the tariffs.

So, when tariffs are refunded, they go back to the corporations, right?

And, will the corporations be sending checks to you and I, because that would be the right thing to do?

LOL!

Just more transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the wealthy.

Almost like it was planned.

And then there's THIS problem:

"A dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone," Pedodent Vladimir Netanyahu Trumpf.

OK, some simple math here (and not MAGA math or with Vernon's calculator)

US Population: 342,000,000

US population minus the 10-15% or so ~high-income~ folk: 300,000,000

So, okay, let's go ...

300,000,000 people times $2,000.00 per person is $600,000,000,000.00.

Tariff collection so far in 2025 has been around $200,000,000,000.00.

But we've already determined that that $200,000,000,000.00 was going to go to corporations, right?

So, where will the $600,000,000,000.00 come from?

There's nothing for Trumpers here, just a dose of reality they're unwilling to accept.

#5 I suppose that the $600,000,000,000.00 will come from the same pot of money that Rubio's "offer" of $800,000,000,000.00 to Denmark for Greenland (no takers):

The pockets of tax-paying Americans, today, and their children and children's children for as far as the eye can see into the future.

Thanks to Republican voters on Tuesday 5 Nov 2024, future American generations will be fettered with austerity measures, a terrible quality-of-life, "Social Murder" as Friedrich Engles described it, and a vicious police state-- in essence, permanent feudalism.

I just grilled Chicken Tarragon with White Wine, steamed Brussel Sprouts with Garlic Salt and White Pepper, and prepared shredded Japanese-style cabbage salad (Kikkoman Soy sauce only) for my wife; all to Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.
