"What happens if everyone who is Hispanic thinks they're at risk?" The small town of Wilder, Idaho, prided itself on comity between its white farmers and growing Hispanic population, but a federal immigration raid has undermined the town's sense of security. nyti.ms/4qu0Fcq

The tiny farming town of 1,725 people"where nine out of ten voters backed Donald Trump in 2024"is now scrambling to figure out what comes next after federal immigration agents swept through in mid-October and arrested more than 100 Hispanic workers at a local horse racetrack. So far, 75 people have been deported, and the farms that keep this place running are facing a labour shortage with no easy fix in sight.

Womp Womp!

Idaho Governor Brad Little (R) seems like a real nice, kind-hearted person.

Governor Little's support for ICE: Clean Out My State!; Good job, ICE!

After this disaster, I bet Idahoans will still vote Republican on Tuesday 3 Nov 2026, 2 Nov 2027, and 7 Nov 2028.

Idaho has a heavily agrarian economy, dependent upon non-citizen labor, and they voted to send their own labor force to camps.

@#3 ... Idaho has a heavily agrarian economy, dependent upon non-citizen labor, and they voted to send their own labor force to camps. ...

Exactly.

I have frequently stated on this most august site that if you are in the Country illegally, you should leave.

But, and you had to know there was a "but," what would the effect of that be upon the economy of the Country?

The answer is obvious ...

Pres Trump's private militia, a.k.a. ICE, seems to be attacking Blue State cities, but not as much in the Red State farm lands and meat processing plants.

Guess they got what they voted for. And the fools will vote for it again and again even after they've lived the consequences.

Welcome to the inland Empire of Trumplandia.

Enjoy the FAFO.

This will make it easier for Canada's Sikh and Muslim armies of the north to swoop down and annex portions of Idaho in the coming years. BRAVO!

Another promise made and kept. Anyone who voted for Trump knew this was coming, and most people who voted for him wanted this.

"The raid has 'nearly destroyed' the town"

"most people who voted for him wanted this."

Hey, we agree.
The GOP voted for the destruction of small town rural America dependent on agriculture.

Fascism?

You may have a point.

No reason for real Americans to go along with you.

-'Nobody thought something like this could happen here.' Wilder felt far enough off the beaten path that residents assumed the aggressive immigration crackdowns they'd been hearing about were a big-city problem.

Crazy as that sounds, you can understand where they are coming from. they believed Trump wouldn't send ICE into rural Idaho towns even though they knew they had illegals working there.

When you put it that way then they make even less sense. Just sounds cruel. Punish those who have no impact on me but leave the people who actually impact my life alone.

It's a parallel to the fact that these same people give a very harsh rating of congress, but then are like 90% likely to vote to re-elect their own congressman.

People believe illegal immigration is real problem in this country........except not right where they live.

People believe in global warming, and they still drive a car.

Remember when you said that means people don't really believe in global warming, except it's Obama's oceanfront property?
