Iranian state television offered Tehran's first reaction to U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to extend a deadline for reopening the Strait of Hormuz by five days.

The deadline should have been around 0000 GMT Tuesday. Instead, Trump on Monday said he extended it by five days.

Reacting to the news, Iranian state television said in a graphic on screen: "U.S. president backs down following Iran's firm warning."

Trump measures success by the stock market. He sees it's tanking.

Betcha some insiders got the heads up before his announcement and bought yesterday or during this morning's pre-market.

This war won't be over until Iran decides it is.

What's being floated now by the Trump WH? The same deal Obama and the world signed in 2014 that Trump blew up, but with more billions going to Iran than the $1.7 billion repatriated to Iran under the original 2014 deal.

What a negotiator!! (/snark)

-Trump measures success by the stock market.

Every president and their respective supporters do that when the market goes up.

The opposition always chants "but wall street isn't main street" and point to the obvious challenges that's always present even when the market is up. unemployment, underemployment, poverty rate, uninsured, etc.

The stock market has done better with a democrat in the WH over the past 30-40 years.

Or at least that claim has been made a couple million times here on the DR......so I'll assume it's true.

You're right.....Trump measures success by the stock market......but he's not alone.

Doesn't matter that it is the same deal.

Sh*tler will announce it that it is the greatest thing in the world, all the pinheads on the right will flood the Sunday shows regurgitating that and I'll say that 40% of America will believe it just because the war is over.

That has been his M.O. for his entire two presidencies.

1. Break deals that were in place screeching that they were horrible unfair to the US.

2. Threaten other nations with tariffs and retribution.

3. Sign a deal if not the same, worse for the US.

4. Take a victory lap.

5. Repeat ad nauseum.

He is a child who represents other children who peaked in middle school and caters to their daily outrages.

He is alone in using the stock market as a gauge for how well the economy is doing.

Other presidents have focused on GDP, employment, wage growth, inflation indexes, etc. Things that matter to the middle class.

There are millions of middle and upper-middle class Americans who don't give a flying duck about anything government-related except their portfolios and retirement accounts.
If those numbers start flashing red, they start to become critical of policy.

Wall Street has been whipsawed for more than a week by President Trump's every word about tariffs and now the Iran war and oil prices.

Trump is facing accusations of using his power to deliberately manipulate the markets.

The scrutiny started with a tale of two social media posts. On one Wednesday, shortly after the U.S. stock market opened, Trump posted on his Truth Social network in all caps: "THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!"

Less than four hours after his post, Trump said on Truth Social that he would pause the harshest of his tariffs on most countries.

Stocks immediately skyrocketed in relief, with the Dow closing up almost 3,000 points " meaning that any investors who had followed Trump's advice in the morning and bought into the stock market right away would have made quite a bit of money by the end of the day.

The Dow went up a thousand points again today. After Trump TACOed on bombing Iran's power plants and said Iran was negotiating a ceasefire. (They are not)

If you look at the monthly trend you can see that every week Trumpy's says something the stocks go up a little then back down. The trend is always down tho.

Of course he is deliberately manipulating the markets.

Barron bought 30,000,000 in oil futures two days before the war started.

You can bet the entire trump klan is profiting off it either directly or by trading the info.

Mar Kwanye Mullin invested heavily in defense stocks right before the war started.

Jarvanka was strong arming middle east nations for investments in his hedge fund.

Iran March 23 --- 11:20 EDT
What we do and don't know about US-Iran talks
www.reuters.com

... Trump says the U.S. has been holding talks with Iran.

He said his Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and close aide and son-in-law Jared Kushner talked to the Iranians on Sunday and that discussions would continue on Monday.

He declined to say who the United States was speaking with in Iran but said it was not Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. Trump said Iran "had some leaders left."

"We're dealing with the man who I believe is the most respected and the leader," Trump said.

An Israeli official and a source familiar with the matter both said the U.S. was holding negotiations with the speaker of Iran's parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

Egypt, Pakistan and Gulf states have been relaying messages between Washington and Tehran, a European official told Reuters, describing the contacts as part of efforts to open communication between the warring parties rather than formal mediation.

Iran's foreign ministry said there were "initiatives" to reduce tensions, the Mehr news agency reported, adding that Tehran wanted Washington, as the party that began the war, to be a direct participant.

Iran's Fars news agency, citing a source, said there were no direct or indirect communications with the United States. ...

To be clear, Piggy this morning said and I paraphrase

They have nearly come to an agreement on most issues. "major points of agreement" "almost all points of agreement"

Then the next breath he says we have destroyed Iran's ability to communicate and is not sure if that has been conveyed "they're unable to talk to each other"

So, one must ask, if they are unable to talk to each other, how he came to "major points of agreement" "almost all points of agreement"

Literally the next sentence after we have "all points of agreement" to they're unable to talk to each other.

I know it is pointless to point out the fact that Piggy lies about EVERYTHING, but one would hope he would lie IDK, better, when we are in the middle of a war.

Seriously, magat scum is this acceptable to you?

@#20 ... Why did Dummkopf Trumpf TACO (again)? ...

My guess would be that when he made his TACO social media post this morning, he had woken up to bad numbers for the US stock market's upcoming day.

The stock market numbers have seemed to be a driver of his policy comments in the past.

OK, looking at the recording I have (and "undeleted") of Bloomberg TV from early this (Monday) morning, after a bad day on Friday)....

7:04 EDT - DOW futures: -285.00 (-0.62%)
7:04 EDT - S&P futures: -48.50 (-0.74%)

Then, after Pres Trump's TACO announcement...

7:10 EDT - DOW futures: +1071.00 (+2.33%)
7:10 EDT - S&P futures: +168.50 (+2.57%)

**** US and Israeli Military Continues Attacking People in Tehran With Massive Airstrikes ****

"Tehran, a city approximately 1,000 years old, was again hit by a wide-scale wave of strikes' as Dummkopf Trumpf extends deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz."

US and Israeli forces have not only hit military installations but also hospitals, schools, and more than 5,000 residential units. The IDF in particular has been using very heavy bombs, destroying entire residential blocks."

Nota Bene: This seems to be indiscriminate bombing of defenseless civilians and not specific Iranian leaders as the Kremlin had warned Dummkopf Trumpf from targeting.

Oil futures were headed up before Trump's announcement, that is.

Looks like "the markets" are already catching on that Trump was lying his --- off yesterday morning about "talks" with Iran.

Iran's message this morning was to pound Israel with a barrage of missiles.

Here is a simple fact

The war won't be over until Israel withdraws from Lebanon.

Anyone think they will?

Why would Iran take a "deal"?

They know Trump can't be trusted.

They know Trump is a bumbling, incompetent pile of s*&^.

They know they're holding all the cards.

Of course, they wouldn't take a "deal."

#31 | Posted by jpw at 2026-03-24 11:18 AM | Reply

To be clear.

Broadly speaking thus war will end even remotely as a victory if ships can traverse the strait and gulf without constraint

Other ends (like denuclearization or arms control)are icing on that cake. And remember that "victory " is worse than we had pre war

To achieve that end Iran must agree to the terms ie to agree to not interfere with traffic

What will motivate Iran to agree to that? Well that's the $64000 question

Some think bombing sufficient

I don't

But anything beyond that is certainly difficult if not impossible to achieve

Iran will want some guarantee that Israel and America won't be back in a year. Given our untrustworthy behavior in negotiations and in fact Trump bragging about using negotiations to fool the Iranians I don't see that as an easy fix

Iran will want Israel to leave Lebanon which given how Israel dealt with Gaza doesn't appear as likely

Irans nuclear material seems critical to Israel buy in for any ceasefire and that is not even remotely possible to seize without Iranian agreement

America cannot achieve a separate ceasefire from Israel

So despite the lies that talks are in progress we are in the same irreconcilable dilemma

The war is lost and the only question is how much we will pay before trump realizes that fact

Pentagon to order 3,000 82nd airborne soldiers to Middle East
www.aa.com.tr

... The Pentagon is planning to deploy a brigade combat team from the US Army's elite 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East to support operations against Iran, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported Tuesday.

Citing two US officials, the WSJ said a written order to deploy the unit, made up of roughly 3,000 soldiers, is expected in the coming hours.

The Pentagon did not provide additional information when asked by Anadolu on Monday about media reports that have suggested elements of the US Army, including units associated with the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, beginning deployments to the Middle East. ...
