Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, June 03, 2026

The scale is ambitious to the point of stupidity. Once its 104 stations and 68 miles of tunnels are complete, the Vegas Loop site says it "will serve up to 90,000 passengers per hour."

The Loop was supposed to transform Vegas. It's the dumbest transit system imaginable.

You support candidates (Republicans, of course) who protect the rich and powerful (men, of course) who rape children. #GOP2026

I wonder if our host, RCade, is aware of my nefariousness ? ? ? ?

Would someone be so kind as to alert our host of this mole in his ranks... for 21 years, no less!!

21 years ! ! ! !

What to do?

What to do?

Postscript: Apparently, posting to someone You're good people is the definitive giveaway here. Who knew?

And here I thought I was just supporting those on my side of the aisle.

The weird things is, ok, one of the weird things about Musk, is that so much of his wealth comes from the people;s treasury, and truth be told, NASA could have done what he has done by hiring the same magnificent engineers....
Musk is about socialism for the oligarchs. And screw Mars, by the way, it is fool's grift.

No, they could not. NASA does not do massive amounts of iterative destruction testing. They explode far less. They're also hamstrung by politics.

Also, Musk hired NASA engineers. He cherry picked top talent from the existing rocket industry.

"they can't accommodate two lanes of traffic. So we paused for over a minute, waiting for the car coming in the opposite direction to clear the tunnel."

This "transit system of the future" wouldn't have made it into a 1900s Popular Mechanics.

#11 | Posted by Derek_Wildstar at 2026-06-04 12:59 PM | Reply

Definitely would have, but in the 50s-70s. It's Personal Rapid Transit in prototype form. It was prominent in Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Scientific American, and Housing and Urban Development studies on the concept, and concepts and prototypes introduced by Boeing, Rohr, Disney. Walt Disney genuinely believed he was prototyping the transportation systems that would replace cars.

A good name for the sociological theme is Individualization of Infrastructure. People want the benefits of public transport, but implemented in a private cabin experience.

And screw Mars, by the way, it is fool's grift.

Most of what Musk does is. He takes grand ideas from others, acts like they're his and spends spends spends to supposedly do it.

Meanwhile, what did all that public tax dollars sunk into SpaceX really buy? A private satellite internet service that profits Musk and StarLink shareholders while all the public got, other than service to the ISS, are rockets that land in chopsticks and flying d*&^s exploding in the Indian Ocean. Hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars and the end result is privately owned satellite internet and no meaningful movement of the needle on actual spaceflight capabilities.

(yes, I understand the reusable aspect of the landing technique; still doesn't move the needle)
