"On the Triumph Gulf Coast board, Gaetz would be responsible for overseeing the administering of 75 percent of the $2 billion that British Petroleum has been paying the state since 2016 as part of a settlement agreement between the two parties.

Those payments, just over $100 million each year, are expected to continue through 2033.

The cash is meant to be directed to the eight Northwest Florida counties that were most affected by the oil spill, according to the organization's website.

The group was created in 2013 through the state Legislature, with Gaetz's father, then-state Senate President Don Gaetz, as a supporter.

The elder Gaetz chaired the organization from 2018 to 2022, after the nonprofit was formally incorporated and the first payment from BP was received."

What could possibly go wrong?

At least we see that Corrupt Nepotism is still alive and well in Floriduh.

One wonders just how many funds of major amounts are out there...hidden away, being distributed for the good or for the gangster class. There is always the possibility that all that money is not being pocketed but is in reality being used to do good things for the people of Florida.

Is working for a non-profit organization really public service?
Why do they need a middleman company to get the money from BP to the Florida counties? Sounds like a way to have people just skim the money.

not necessarily. The NFL was a 501(c) until about 10 years ago.

Organzied sports exist for this reason, imo.

Yep and giving money to racist advocacy groups like the NRA or most churches is a tax preferred charitable donation.

Makes sense.

How else could he "tap into those funds" unless he was in charge of those funds.

Dude's gotta make his nut somehow you know.

If there's one thing Republicans are good at, it's paying their cronies out of a Slush Fund.
