Birthright citizenship is not the problem. Birthright tourism and similar activities are the problem. Focus on the problem. Legislate accordingly. An amendment has zero chance.

Marsha Blackburn is the worst kind of idiot. Like MTG or Boebert, but seemingly more normal on the surface.

I looked her up on Wikipedia one time. Her husband's main achievement seems to be his exalted leadership of the International Bowtie Association.

Just banning pregnant tourist will not solve the problem. It will certainly mitigate it but it will not solve it. People will just come and stay longer; perhaps on a H1B visa. To really solve the problem, you have to address the reasons that bring them here in the first place and condition the benefits accruing from those reasons on their contributions "over time" to the sources that enable those reasons to exist.

We've already got rules for this.

Note: On January 24, 2020, the Department of State amended its B nonimmigrant visa regulation to address birth tourism. Under this amended regulation, U.S. consular officers overseas will deny any B visa application from an applicant whom the consular officer has reason to believe is traveling for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States to obtain U.S. citizenship for their child.
