If wind and solar so profitable the companies do not need subsidies by the taxpayers.

If fossil fuels are so profitable then those companies do not need subsidies by the taxpayers.
Annual explicit subsidies for the U.S. fossil fuel industry are estimated between $30 billion and $35 billion, including direct government spending and targeted tax breaks. When factoring in indirect supports like leasing public lands and unaccounted costs of pollution, estimates surpass $700 billion annually.
And I don't think the costs of "military protection" and war are even included in this estimate.

You mean you don't actually know.
Not even addressing military, governments from Federal all the way down to local government depends heavily on gas and diesel for everything from transportation to power generation and heating. And it is an issue of national security. Subsidies make sure the governments are the first ones in line. Subsidies also ensure oil companies who boost production at the government's asking will recoup their investments.

Our dependence on oil is why we've spent the past 26 years at war in the Middle East.
It's why Iran is winning this war.
What stupid, greedy people conservatives are.

No Iran won the war because the US back in the second Obama term, the trump and Biden terms didn't invest in drone technology.
All those $$$$ went to big ticket items. American military has forgotten why it won WWII.
Its a good defeat though, its inconsequential in the big picture. It exposed the military to a good lesson, hopefully they learn fast enough, but I think they are behind.

The military is a cost you must bear to have the reserve currency. The size of the US debt only exists for that reason.

Iran won the war because everything the noxious orange chomo touches dies.
