... No new negotiations planned despite Trump comments, U.S. officials tell CBS News

Despite President Trump's comments last night that negotiations with Iran are set to begin on Monday afternoon, U.S. officials have told CBS News that there are no "new" or novel negotiations planned -- just the ongoing talks between Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner and the U.S. negotiating team with the Iranian team, through mediators.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said at a press conference Monday that Tehran had no plans to hold direct talks with Washington, after Mr. Trump's claim that a "deal is imminent."

"To avoid any misunderstanding, it is important to clarify what the current negotiations are about and who they are with. We are not negotiating with the United States at this time," Baghein said.

"Our negotiations are with Oman and are focused on reaching an understanding on a route that will ensure the safe passage of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz," he said.

@#2

Yeah, that was what I thought as I read the article.

I also wondered if Pres Trump made up the whole ~talks on Monday~ thing just so Iran would deny it, and then Pres Trump could call Iran "unbelievably duplicitous."

We've arrived at the point where the only negotiating Trump's doing is with himself.

Donald Trump lives in a world where he thinks a US Olympian vandalized the reflecting pool despite his own pet prosecutor tell the world there is no evidence to support such claim. At this point I think it's fair to take the position that anything that Trump claims to have happened is the product of his dementia riddled mind.

Reminder of how we got here
1. Piggy unilaterally pulled out of the JCPOA despite Iran abiding by it
2. Piggy attacked them last summer without warning, declaration or justification-during negotiations.
3. Piggy agreed to a ceasefire with Iran last summer.
4. Piggy attacked Iran AGAIN, during negotiations, without warning, declaration or justification despite Iran abiding by the ceasefire.
5. Piggy launched the current war with a cowardly sneak attack that murdered their leader and infants.
6. Piggy launched this unjust, unjustifiable, illegal, immoral attack because Israel recognized a target of opportunity-the Iranian leader at home during peacetime.
7. Piggy murdered Iran's negotiators and moderates in the Iranian leadership.
8. Piggy bragged about murdering Iran's leadership-despite this being a war crime.
9. Piggy has threatened to murder Iran's negotiators.
10. Piggy signed a MOU to stop the fighting.
11. Piggy immediately breached the MoU.
12. Piggy has attacked unarmed commercial vessels traversing the strait
13. Piggy has regularly threated to end Iranian civilization
14. Piggy flounders between outrageous threats and actions-seizing the Strait and charging a toll, giving Saudi Arabia nuclear technology and immediately TACOing because the corrupt gulf dictators tell him no.

None of the above even touches on the evil acts of our ally Israel

America is the bad guy

We deserve to suffer.

Duplicitous?

They are playing Rope a Dope.

Little Engagements that waste Interceptors.

It provokes a limited response which they counter with more little attacks.

It keeps everything in the Strait of Hormuz shut down.

Which is the Goal.

If they want to blast bases and military Assets, they Will.

This is prolonging the Pain and Pressure on Trump.

They think they can take the Pain longer.

I think they're Right.

Trump snaps back to diplomacy, but Iran has other ideas
thehill.com

... President Trump is turning back to diplomacy in the Middle East, seeking a new deal with Iran that his administration failed to secure through waves of military strikes.

But the negotiations, which the president claimed would resume Monday, got off to a rocky start, with Iran denying any resumption in talks with the U.S., while pursuing a bilateral deal with Oman over shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.

Diplomatic efforts have failed before, leading to a recurring pattern of the U.S. threatening massive kinetic action before it is called off, a scenario that has played out at least five times since April.

Gregory Brew, an Iran expert with the Eurasia Group, said the U.S. is both part and "outside" of the Oman-Iran talks, as Tehran doesn't recognize any U.S. role in managing the waterway, though the strait's reopening will depend on Washington ending its naval blockade.

"The Iranians have made it very clear they're not going to reopen the strait unless the U.S. de-escalates, unless the U.S. drops its blockade and likely provides other concessions," Brew said in an interview with The Hill on Monday.

Jason Campbell, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, said Iran seems to be eyeing a deal with Oman that has the backing of other Gulf countries, which it would then use to pressure the U.S. to lift its naval blockade.

"Iran could present it not just to the Omanis and the other immediate neighbors but to the world as the only hurdle now to free and open shipping of the Strait of Hormuz is the U.S. naval blockade," Campbell said.

"In any agreement that it would reach, I think both from a sort of geopolitical outmaneuvering standpoint, and also just from a lack of trust in Trump, Iran sees little need right now to engage in talks with the U.S. despite Trump's persistent insistence that this is the case." ...

Meanwhile, President Trump has somehow found the time to form the President's Military Spouse Commission, which will be chaired by Secretary of Losing War Pete "no more DEI" Hegseth's wife. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin's wife will be a member of the commission. So deserved!
