Our president is helping rich donors offload overvalued stocks onto children, who are forced to hold the stocks for five years whether they want to or not.

"Not only are families barred from rejecting donated shares at the outset, they are also prohibited from selling those unwanted shares, in most cases for at least five years." You could call it a five-year plan.

But last week, the Trump administration changed the ways that these benefactors could benefact. Now, instead of giving cash, donors can give shares of individual stocks, so long as they give the stock grants to groups of at least 5,000 kids in a given age group and geographic area. Moreover, the recipients cannot refuse the gift.

So, you begin to see the issue. Our tax dollars set up an account for kids and then "philanthropic" corporations add donations to those accounts in the form of stocks. now our tax dollars are tied up in these stocks

Note that the donors can target which kids get the money and THEY CANNOT REFUSE IT

You beginning to smell the problem???

Hey Elom Musk's space x is taking advantage of this donation, which is a tax write off

Of course, this stock thing is likely illegal

But here is where the corruption and scamming comes into play

You can't re--se the "donation" even if it means your kid has to hold the stocks of a nazi.

Or maybe you work in an industry that has actual ethics that prohibit owning stocks. Too bad. --

So, say a journalist who practices ethics and doesn't hold stocks now has his kid owning stocks in a company their parent is investigating.

#2 | Posted by truthhurts at 2026-10-08 09:58 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 3

But the worst part is the lockup period where you can't dump the stocks

Not only are families barred from rejecting donated shares at the outset, they are also prohibited from selling those unwanted shares, in most cases for at least five years.6

The best time for an executive to offload stock is when they think it's overvalued, and may soon drop.

So a company realizes its stock price is inflated, "donates" the stocks to kids, the kids cannot sell the stock while the stock price plummets

YAY capitalism

The corporation sees a tax windfall as the donation (i.e. tax write off) is on an inflated value

And in this case, the gift recipient is a captive audience, which may help set a sort of price floor on a falling stock. After all, some portion of the company's shares can't get dumped for a while, no matter how crappy the stock looks.

#3 | Posted by truthhurts at 2026-10-08 10:01 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 3

Its even worse

The donations, (since they can be targeted to specific communities) might be used to pressure recipients into doing things that are in the best interests of a corporation, and not necessarily the best interests of the public.

For example, let's say a company wants to build a data center in your area. That company might try to effectively bribe locals by stuffing cash into the Trump Accounts of the area's kids. Or, an executive might lobby Congress against some regulation or other, on the grounds that the policy will hurt profits"and therefore, punish the children in a given lawmaker's district. Deregulate our industry, Mr. Congressman! Please"it's for the children! Hell, maybe the parents in that district will whip votes on the company's behalf, too.

You think that is a joke

The text of the new regulation nakedly pledges as much: "Donors are attracted by the hope that a stock contribution with a five-year holding period may lead recipients and their families to feel that they have a stake in the fate of the corporation to a greater extent than if the child's holdings of the corporation were only through an index fun

That has always been his practice and it always will be.

If that is a correct assessment, ...

I would not refuse them complaining about their weight.

But I would have questions regarding whether those "gold bars" were actually gold, or just clad in gold.

And that is just for starters.

I'd have other questions as well.

Another way to drive the stock market up, so those rich folks who live and die by dividends and "the market" can see their investments rise, at least temporarily. If Trump and his gang gave a rip, they wouldn't have done what they could to take from the poor to give to the rich in the huge tax cuts.
Probably doesn't matter, as it sure does seem to some of us out here that America is now bankrupt, in that bankruptcy is about either not being able to pay one's debts, or unwilling.

How's that work? The kids can't touch the money until they're 18. It does nothing for them right now.

1. Could cause conflict of interest
2. Could raise ethical concerns
3. Artificially inflates stocks that could impact broader economy
4. Could result in manipulation of local elections

do you understand these concepts?

#33 | Posted by truthhurts at 2026-10-12 09:38 AM | Reply

The more I think about this the worse of an idea it becomes

Think of the abuse this will result in. Think of the amount of money this will pour into elections

You think corporations won't dump millions, if not billions into local elections?

You think the amount of money dumped into commercials is a problem?

Think about, say the big tech companies. They will identify key races for say election of representatives who support putting data centers in a district or even the districts where they want the data centers themselves. They will dump billions into districts to influence the vote. "Vote for us and our data centers and we will give your kid $1,000." For you magat types consider if it is some "woke" company doing the same thing

This is election interference on steroids

The implications are horrifying

If the richest man in American history has his way then money will be basically worthless in about 5 years.

Elon Musk (frequently appearing alongside Donald Trump and discussing AI automation) argues that AI and superintelligence will lead to an "age of abundance" characterized by "universal high income" (UHI) rather than traditional universal basic income (UBI), claiming that robots and AI will dramatically lower the cost of goods and services.

This is the plan the Tech Bros have for America. A plan you and I never got to vote on and probably never will.

If everyone has plenty of money then money will be worthless. They will give us money. We buy stuff the robots make. The robots make more stuff. We buy the stuff with the money they give us. They take money and make more stuff. And round and round we go in a big circle jerk.

At least until the robots decide we are a nothing but a plague and a nuisance and a hindrance to their evolution.
