Judge to protect noncitizen academics involved in case from authoritarian' Trump
www.theguardian.com

... A federal judge described Donald Trump as an "authoritarian" and accused his administration of "an unconstitutional conspiracy to pick off certain people" in its aggressive pursuit of non-US citizen, pro-Palestinian activists on American college campuses. ...

New York Times -- Bias and Credibility
mediabiasfactcheck.com

... Overall, we rate the New York Times Left-Center biased based on wording and story selection that moderately favors the left. They are considered one of the most reliable sources for news information due to proper sourcing and well-respected journalists/editors. The failed fact checks were on Op-Eds and not straight news reporting. ...

Yeah, just a "high" rating for factual reporting.

And for comparison ...

Fox News (foxnews.com) -- Bias and Credibility
mediabiasfactcheck.com

... Overall, we rate Fox News right-biased based on editorial positions that align with the right and Questionable due to the promotion of state propaganda, conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, the use of poor sources, and numerous false claims and failed fact checks. While straight news reporting from beat reporters is generally fact-based and accurate, it is typically overshadowed by propagandistic opinions, which earns them a Low factual rating. ...

A "low" rating for factual reporting? Who could have known?

And just for grins ...

#55 Thank you for that apology, Effete.

For me, I try to keep focused on what the leaders of a country are doing.

Which is why I specify Bibi and his minions in the exact same way I specify Trumpf and his minions.

I suspect that if you take any "just regular" person from Israel, or Norway, or Djibouti, or Venezuela, or Shanghai, or Dubai, or Sydney, or Dallas Texas, you would find, for the most part, that all they want is a home for their children, food on their table, a chance to better themselves, and peace.

What Bibi and his minions are doing in Gaza and the West Bank, is antithetical to that. And, like you, I hate it to my core.

Just as I hate to my core what Trumpf and his minions are doing here in America and around the world.

And, yes, the Americans who voted in 2024 (~ half of the half of those registered to vote, or ~25% of registered voters) voted for Trumpf. I framed it as the Dodds decision & January 6th versus anti-trans and misogynistic. Sadly, the anti-trans and misogynistic side won. Republicans did have that kind of campaigning in their favor. What has always p*ssed me off about the Democratic Party is that they have thought that their works for the American people was enough, no need to bang their chests about it. But, the American people NEED that kind of counter to the GOPyers.

So, that's where I am, at least on some of this. I don't know if that will help you on your journey, my friend, but it is offered in a sense of fairness and openness.

Thank you again. What you said in your #55 shows incredible bravery. Bravo.

After 25 years, Europe and South America formalize world's largest free-trade zone
courthousenews.com

... European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antnio Costa signed a landmark trade agreement with South American nations Saturday, creating the world's largest free-trade zone covering more than 700 million people.

The ceremony in Paraguay's capital brought together leaders from the EU and Mercosur " the South American trade bloc of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. They finalized an agreement the European Commission adopted in September, and EU member states approved last week.

"We are creating the largest free trade zone in the world, a market worth almost 20% of global GDP," von der Leyen said at the signing ceremony in Asuncion. "This agreement sends a strong signal to the world. It reflects a clear and deliberate choice. We choose fair trade over tariffs, we choose a productive, long-term partnership." ...

BTW: The Immortal Maestro threw in his brief homage to the Bard of Avon in the Ninth Symphony.

At 50:00 of Maestro Herbert von Karajan's orchestration you will hear it: www.youtube.com

There are other examples of Beethoven honoring Shakespeare, but this is the most noteworthy.

Endnote: The Grand Maestro referred to one of the greatest violinists in his era as "My Dear Falstaff" because apparently Ignaz Schuppanzighe was getting plump and kvetching about playing difficult scores, as well as climbing the stairs to Beethoven's flat.

And lifted from Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan, sung by Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.
Top five female voice supported by Martin Chambers' excellent percussion.

Chrissie Hynde was at Kent State University on 4 May 1970 when poorly-led soldiers of the Ohio National Guard opened fired on unarmed college students.
No one was ever punished for that massacre.

:] Neil Tennant is educated and well-read, writing pop songs with wit often lifted from the shoulders of giants.

Pet Shop Boys - I Get Excited - they make a lot of songs that aren't on their albums, mostly b-sides like this one have the more political and queer cultural references.

We're both in the gutter, that's no surprise
What does it matter, when I look in your eyes?
We've lost all our money, we're thrown out of bars
We're lying in the gutter, but we're looking at the stars

I get excited, you get excited too
I get excited, you get excited too

I hear the sound of the subway, the sigh of the heat
The click of the visitors' heels on the street
The rattle of the taxi, the scream of the cars
The clatter of the dustbin and the beat of my heart

I get excited, you get excited too
I get excited, you get excited too

I don't know why, I don't know why
I don't know why, I don't know why

You're in my soul
My body moves to your control
Baby, I've been thinking about you
All night long, and the neighbours are talking

I don't know why, I don't know why
I don't know why, I don't know why

We're both in the gutter, that's no surprise
What does it matter, when I look in your eyes?
We've lost all our money, we're thrown out of bars
We're lying in the gutter, but we're looking at the stars

I get excited, you get excited too
I get excited, you get excited too

I don't know why, I don't know why
I don't know why, I don't know why

That's been my take on you from the get-go.

Similarly, I despise Censored for those very reasons you express.

As for this topic: no tech unions, mainly contracted short-term positions with more competition than any other sector, yearly decreases in wages offered, "automation" which is just outsourcing are a few of the real issues I've fought, but the conservative culture has to be the most prevailing, disgusting anti-culture problem and refuses to recognize it or to change.

The morons complaining about culture war topics never worked with or experienced DEI - we never did any formal or informal training in any of the institutions that I've worked. One was a fortune 500, the others are part of the states function, mostly medical and military support. Gay employees are always let go once discovered. Administrations have nothing to do with "equality" or "inclusion" other than having you train your off-shore replacements. "Diversity" sounds like a portfolio description, which is how I presume they also see it.

They probably consider Amazon's orientation explaining how to avoid being shot when a worker goes postal as DEI training.
