Bending the knee will become commonplace in Trump's America.

Sucking up to Trump. Bad move, he's purely transactional and once he feels he doesn't need them he will attack again.

Haven't president-elects typically met with some members of the press during this time?

Anything trump does is going to be suspect, for good reason but in general I would think it's somewhat typical and normal to have meetings like this....

After acting as Pravda for Biden and the Dems and casting Trump as more evil than Satan....yeah, I get how the left could view this as abnormal.

It actually isn't, but when all things are amped up to 11 on a knob that tops out at 10, ANY kind of simple civility is deemed horrible.

Sorry but one shouldn't bend the knee towards someone who tried to overthrow the Constitution and the rule of law. They just legitimized him by doing so.

After acting as Pravda for Biden and the Dems and casting Trump as more evil than Satan

You do go out of your way to show everyone how lost you are. Pravda was propaganda, not truth. Pravda was for the State. Pravda propped up the oligarchy. Pravda worked against the free press, freedom, liberty, truth. All those things that used to be called and honored as "the American Way."

All you can do is lie and call what you don't like exactly what you are. You spend all your time spreading propaganda and lies, occasionally trying to seem reasonable.

Fox "News" is Pravda. Through and through. That should be self-evident even to you.

You are wrong, at best, or a complete liar (again). I never touted any polls showing her winning, let alone winning easily.
What I did say is that I liked her as I heard her give more and more speeches, and that those that called her stupid and low iq were quite clearly lying or stupid. I then grew to support her and thought she'd be excellent as President. I still think she'd be MILES above the POS the American people elected. Trump is, singularly, the lowest point in American electoral history. An indictment of the American people and this nation.

We didn't get our ass whipped by "nerds." Apparently that's another word you don't know the meaning of. And as fas as "ass whipped" half of America disagrees with you, and as I've said for months - the 50/50 polling indicates that, despite winning on all fronts, you won my so very little that you overstate your power. Tread carefully. Hubris precedes a fall.

CNN contributor Scott Jennings mocked the left's constant messaging to their supporters that Donald Trump is a fascist, only to turn around and quickly start kissing his ring following the election.

The sudden normalization of the president-elect began when Joe Biden hosted Trump for a cordial White House meeting, shaking hands with the man he's called an "existential threat to democracy" for what seems like years.

Things rose to the level of absurd when yesterday, MSNBC's "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski admitted to visiting Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

Jennings could hardly stifle the laughter when joining a CNN panel to discuss the sudden shift.

"I'm amazed. I did not expect Hitler to get so many meeting requests," he quipped. "First from Joe Biden, now from Mika and Joe. It's amazing that Literal Hitler is getting all these meeting requests."

You people don't get it. Joe's motivation is probably similar to Mika and Joe's--he's hoping that Trump won't go after him or his family members, especially Hunter. It's because people know Trump is immoral, unethical, a revenge freak and as president is beyond the law, that they are trying to curry favor or at least some consdieration from "America's Hitler" (JD Vance's term, not mine).

#43 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2024-11-19 08:18 PM

From Morning Joe transcript:

Okay. So here's where we are. Over the past week, Joe and I have heard from so many people, from political leaders to regular citizens, deeply dismayed by several of President-elect Trump's cabinet elections, and they are scared. Last Thursday, we expressed our own concerns on this broadcast and even said we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the president elect himself on Friday. We were given the opportunity to do just that. Joe and I went to Mar-a-Lago, to meet personally with President elect Trump. It was the first time we have seen him in seven years

Now. e talked about a lot of issues including abortion, mass deportation, threats of political retribution against political opponents and media outlets. We talked about that a good bit and it's gonna come as no surprise to anybody who watches this show, has watched it over the past year or over the past decade that we didn't see eye to eye on a lot of issues. And we told him. So

What we did agree on was to restart communications. My father often spoke with world leaders with whom he and the United States profoundly disagreed. That's a task shared by reporters and commentators alike. We had not spoken to President Trump since March of 2020, other than a personal call Joe made to Trump on the morning after the attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania. In this meeting, president Trump was tearful. He was upbeat, he seemed interested in finding common ground with Democrats on some of the most divisive issues. And for those asking why we would go speak to the President-elect during such fraught times, especially between us.

#44 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2024-11-19 08:33 PM

Also from the transcript:

And I think that's very important. And I think it's also obviously very important. There are a lot of people that are very scared by the selection of his attorney general selection. . . .

But we spoke at length just about what Jonathan said. A lot of people are scared right now. They're scared about the threats of political retribution. They're scared about the threats of, of retribution against media people. They're scared that some potential picks have actually said they are going to arrest members of the media or go after them civilly. All that does is make people martyrs. And that's something that we said You know, you go after your political opponents, you turn 'em into martyrs, you make 'em the next president of the United States. So again, a lot of people are scared, a lot of people are nervous.

Joe and Mika are probably especially scared at Trump's nomination of Matt Gaetz to AG because Gaets is the one who gave Trump the false story about Joe being a murder which Trump then tweeted about and which led to Joe and Mika cutting off all contact with Trump because he refused to stop spreadng the false allegations:
Morning Joe Hosts to 'Restart Communications' with Donald Trump After Revealing They Visited the President-Elect

'Morning Joe' hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have had fraught histories with Trump, who previously falsely accused Scarborough of murder

In May 2020, Trump even accused Scarborough of being a murderer " implying on X that the former member of the House of Representatives in Florida was to blame for the 2001 accidental death of one of his congressional aides, Lori Klausutis. This prompted the news host to pause his live show and ask Trump to stop watching "for the sake of America" and himself.

"When will they open a Cold Case on the Psycho Joe Scarborough matter in Florida. Did he get away with murder? Some people think so," Trump wrote on social media. "Why did he leave Congress so quietly and quickly? Isn't it obvious? What's happening now? A total nut job!"

And here is Matt Gaetz's contribution to the "Joe Scarborough is a murder story"

"The View" star confronted 'scary person' Matt Gaetz at White House, says he gave Donald Trump docs accusing MSNBC host of murder

Alyssa Farah Griffin says she urged Gaetz not to present Trump with the "printed out conspiracy theories" about Joe Scarborough.

The View cohost and former Donald Trump staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin revealed that she once confronted the president-elect's attorney general pick, controversial politician Matt Gaetz, about a conspiracy theory she said he introduced to Trump.

Griffin remembered asking him [Gaetz] what was in the folder, and its alleged contents shocked her.

"He shows me these printed out conspiracy theories that Joe Scarborough of Morning Joe and former congressman had murdered his staffer," Griffin alleged. "I said, 'Please do not show these to the President of the United States.' Then, days ensued of Donald Trump tweeting false, malicious claims about Joe Scarborough. The family of the woman who died--there was no foul play, it was a tragedy--begged Twitter and the White House to take it down, so that speaks to his character, integrity, and judgment."

Anyone who doesn't think Trump would set up one of his political enemies on phony trumped up charges, using phony dummied up evidence, doesn't know Trump.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it.

"The [Supreme] Court declared that a President is immune from prosecution when exercising the core powers' of the presidency. Immunity means a person cannot be prosecuted - it is not merely a defense to prosecution. Although the majority did not outline the exact core powers,' nor what would lay outside them as an unofficial act' with even one example from the case at-hand, there is no greater or clearer example of a core power' than what is outlined in Article II, Section II of the U.S. Constitution stating that the President shall be the Commander in Chief.'

"During arguments on this case, a question was posed to Trump lawyers about whether a President could dispatch a SEAL Team' to kill his political enemies. Like the dissent articulated, the Court's decision Monday answers that question with yes.' Under this ruling, if a President, in their official capacity, orders the military to kill other Americans " judges, elected officials, reporters, your neighbor " they can do so.
... the Court decision says that a President who did that would be immune from accountability under criminal law.

Anyone that's not afraid and was a critic of Trump is a fool.
We are at the rubicon, waiting to see if we are going to cross it.

We have been promised that retribution is coming. Over and over we've heard it.
We've heard they are going to immediately start rounding up those they targeted with their campaign of hate towards immigrants.
We've heard his statements about ending the Constitution, of going after the Press that he considers an enemy, of those that were doing their job to hold him accountable under the law for his illegal actions. The number of threats Trump has made is long.

I take Trump and his followers at their word.

Flashback:

In the early 1930s, the Nazis campaigned in national, state, and local elections in Germany. Their major breakthrough came in September 1930, when they won 18 percent of the vote in the national parliamentary elections. They also did well in state and local elections that year. This shocked some Germans, especially those who recognized that the Nazis were an extremist, fringe political movement.

During election campaigns, Adolf Hitler and the Nazis won followers by playing on people's hopes. The Nazis promised to
* fix the economy and put people back to work;
* return Germany to the status of a great European, and even world, power;
* regain territory Germany had lost in World War I;
* and create a strong authoritarian German government.

But the Nazis also played on people's fears and prejudices. They falsely claimed that Jews and Communists were to blame for all of Germany's problems. The Nazis promised to unite Germans along racial and ethnic lines. The Nazis planned to exclude Jews and others from German society.

Adolf Hitler came to power through Germany's legal political process.

I fear people are going to be in for a rude awakening as to the transformation of our country in short order and the lack of guardrails that ------------ is in the process of dismantling the last of them.

I heard a historian respond to the question: "What are you most worried about?" with "That Project 2025 only covers the first 6 months and what will happen beyond that."

This Morning Joe thing is YET ANOTHER thing that people should really think hard about. Another piece of the puzzle.

What do you think brought those two to Mar-a-Lago?

It wasn't their decision; it was the owners of MSNBC. An action like this is not taken unilaterally by 2 talking heads. It is a directive from higher up.

They must be shaking in their boots.

The hire ups MUST have heard ominous tidings about retribution that ------- is planning. At best it is a Bezos move with the Washington Post- of anticipatory surrender.

The media is bending the knee to that monster.

That should scare everyone.

THIS IS NOT NORMAL.

MSNBC who has spent the last how long claiming ------- is the devil, has taken an immediate about face to "reopen communication".

THIS IS NOT NORMAL

As someone said a journalist should only look down on a politician.

It is clear that the press is going to act deferentially to -------, the press that is that is separate from his propaganda machine of Fox and OAN and the blogosphere.

The House, the Senate, the Supreme Court, the DoJ, the military, now the press... what else is there? The corporations and the churches. Well the latter are all in on him, the corporations are either already in his "government"-Musk or bending the knee.

We may end up hoping that Big Pharma puts pressure on Congress to keep the worst of RFK Jr's madness at bay or Wall Street steps in to cut through the tariff madness. Maybe big ag can get through to ------- about the impact of deporting their workers.

Him putting Lutkin in Commerce is a really really bad sign in that direction though, he is a ------- toady who will do whatever tariffs ------- wants.

And ------- will put at least 2 more justices on the SC

And that doesn't even touch on abortion or the environment or education

The future is truly bleak

What do you think brought those two to Mar-a-Lago?
It wasn't their decision; it was the owners of MSNBC. An action like this is not taken unilaterally by 2 talking heads. It is a directive from higher up.

I think they went of their own free will and as the result of their own fears based on their previous experience with Trump as all the posts I made above demonstrate. The rift between Mika and Joe and Trump was personal after Trump accused Joe of being a murderer and called for an investigation into the death of Joe's dead staffer to be re-opened. Since it was Matt Gaetz who personally brought Trump the folder full of conspiracy material about the staffer's death that triggered Trump to start tweeting about Joe, the murderer, it only stands to reason that the nomination of Gaetz to be AG increased their fears regarding Trump's retribution against them.

Did MSNB sign off on their visit and even encourage it? I'm sure they did, because Joe and Mika aren't the only MSNBC hosts to be threatened with retribution:

Bannon: Gaetz DOJ coming for media

Steve Bannon, President-elect Trump's onetime White House adviser and a conservative media personality, said if confirmed to be attorney general, former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) would go after media outlets.

Bannon singled out MSNBC, the cable news channel owned by Comcast, a company Trump himself has threatened to investigate over what he says is "treasonous" critical coverage of him.

The American people weighed in measure, and you were inundated for years. [Andrew] Weissmann, you were on TV with MSNBC and all the producers, MSNBC. Preserve your documents. Ari Melber and all you hosts. Preserve your documents. All of it," Bannon said on his "War Room" podcast.

thehill.com

I imagine the Trump administration will make MSNBC and maybe a few others like 60 Minutes/CBS scapegoats and examples, a warning to other journalists news outlets of what will happen to them if they are critical of Trump or just accurately report on him. The free press is one of the first casualites when a democracy becomes an autocracy. That's where we are.

"A Republic if you can keep it."

248 years. RIP.

naw....don't think so....

As quote typically attributed to Mark Twain says.....

"The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."

--question was more about future of msbnc....

It's directly related, as symptoms are to a disease.

You live in a pretend world, STD, but reality doesn't give a ---- about your world. You won't escape.

good talk.

#67 | Posted by shrimptacodan at 2024-11-20 11:43 AM

you can "naw...don't think so" all you want, but it is an undeniable truth - reality doesn't give a shht what you think.

#68 | Posted by YAV at 2024-11-20 11:58 AM

"I just don't think this is equivalent. We're in very different times."

I get that Trump makes it different. Just pointing out the long history of hostility between the White House and the press......

#69 | Posted by eberly at 2024-11-20 12:08 PM

Not so much Trump, Eberly, but SCOTUS recent rulings granting Trump near absolute power. We've never had this in our history.

(That's why I said we have to count on Trump's good graces)

That's why I said we have to count on Trump's good graces

He has much better graces than most Elite Democrats, its not just talk the talk, he walks the walk. I believe if you just stroke his ego a little, and begin conversations with him, he's probably pretty reasonable to work with, at least he will talk and negotiate.

This issue is MSM and people like Truth and even some of your posts are nothing but lies about him based upon the media hype.

I suggest reading "Art of the Deal", just to understand him, not through an intermediary. He really is about just making things work, negotiations, benefiting himself, and people around him.

Lumpers continually use the phrase "have a conversation", from everything I am seeing Trump is that guy, and Elite Dems are not (who wouldn't do Rogan)?

Ex-Democrats won the election. Not conservative Republicans, abortion isn't even on Trumps radar.

But be outraged if it makes you feel better.

I suggest you read the author of Art of The Deal on the total POS that is Domald Trump

Trump "walks the walk"?

That's fkkking hilarious.

At least you've finally abandoned your "open borders, liberal" persona and have fully embraced your deplorable Trumping MAGA self.

A liar like you has nothing to offer. You'll post anything at anytime. You're a typical lying sack of garbage, like most Republicans.

He was always a fraud. An oxygen thief. A WOB. I don't even bother with it anymore.

election was won by the 4 lies being told in the white house AND HERE ON A DAILY BASIS.

1) inflation is not a problem
2)border was secure
3) biden was 'sharo as a tack"
4) crime is going down.

and all repeated by democrat activists like these two godamn liars
and people were called names so many times that they got tired of hearing that bullsvt and
decided to turn towards the other side.

#78 | Posted by shrimptacodan at 2024-11-20 02:44 PM

the most devastating and cost effective ad in the entire campaign is when the trump ad said
"Kamala is for they/them," one ad says. "Trump is for you."
and then throw in the "I can't think of any" answer on "the view".....and you get a sound thrashing on election day

SOUND THRASHING--- the largest move of the country to the right since 1980.

LOOK IT UP A-WHOLES.

4 of the top 5 states making the biggest moves to the right considered democrat "birth rights"

1) new york 11.5 %
2) New Jersey10.1 %
3) Florida 9.8 %
4) Massachusetts 8.7 %
5) California 8.4 %

--Illinois came in 10 with a 6.4 % move

Respect gone for Joe/Mika. never watched them on television, unfollowed them now on social media.

#80 | Posted by e1g1 at 2024-11-20 03:22 PM

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are restarting communications with President-elect Donald Trump

Why? They are doing what they badmouthed others for doing i.e. bending a knee to Trump. If they wanted to interview him, they could have done so in DC. IMHO, they have lost a lot of credibility.
