White House $200 Million Ballroom Construction to Begin

According to the White House press release: "The White House Ballroom will be substantially separated from the main building of the White House, but at the same time, it's theme and architectural heritage will be almost identical. The site of the new ballroom will be where the small, heavily changed, and reconstructed East Wing currently sits."

President Donald Trump has discussed using revenue from new tariffs to send "rebates" to Americans -- but many Republican lawmakers said paying down the growing national debt was a higher priority.

Is he going to park his 'free' + $1 billion in upgrades jet there?

and btw, Ball Room may not mean what Trump thinks it means, as that's where they held the cheerleader contests he and Jeffrey sponsored.

Of course, it's trashy, gaudy garbage.

Gross.

This thing will be ugly as sin and will deserve being torn down at the earliest possible date.

What does DOGE have to say about this expenditure?

@#3 ... Of course, it's trashy, gaudy garbage ...

The better for people to gather and show their adulation of Pres Trump.

Why else would he want this?

And, if I may ask, what in the East Wing is this ballroom replacing?

#6 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-07-31 08:19 PM

@#6

Found this ...

East Wing
en.wikipedia.org

... The East Wing of the White House is a two-story structure[1][2] that serves as office space for the first lady and her staff, including the White House social secretary, White House Graphics and Calligraphy Office and correspondence staff.

On the ground floor, the East Wing includes the visitors' entrance and the East Colonnade, a corridor connecting the body of the East Wing to the Executive Residence. Along the corridor is the White House theater, also called the family theater.

Social and touring visitors to the White House usually enter through the East Wing.

The East Wing was built on top of the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, a secure emergency underground shelter for the president.[3] ...

That the government isn't paying for it.

Do you guys research anything? Hell Iam working 10hrs a day and understand the government isn't paying for it.

Iam working 10hrs a day

Troll farms are demanding.

@#8 ... That the government isn't paying for it. ...

Being paid for in part by donors trying to purchase the good graces of the Oval Office?

To be honest, I'd rather the government paid for it.

#10 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-07-31 08:45 PM

@#9 ... Troll farms are demanding. ...

Especially when they may not be located in US time zones.

#11 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-07-31 08:47 PM

Trump is upgrading his palace.

Most prior presidents haven't been as invested in turning the White House into their house.

#12 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-07-31 08:49 PM

@#10 ... To be honest, I'd rather the government paid for it ...

If that were the case, there might be at least an attempted oversight of what is being done to public property.

#13 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-07-31 08:50 PM

That is government property and not his personal property. Don't things like this require some vetting by an architectural review committee?

#14 | Posted by TenMile at 2025-07-31 10:17 PM

@#14 ... That is government property and not his personal property. ...

Government property - a.k.a., public property.

So, yeah, there should be vetting.

But, in Pres Trump's mind ...

Apr. 13, 2020 - "When someone is President of the United States, the authority is total, and that is the way it has to be. It's total. It's total."

It's too bad the next Dem Potus will have to bulldoze it and restore the rose garden. It's going to take a while to un-Dotard the WH. Removing all the gawdy gold Hobby Lobby accents painting over the gold Rustoleum, removing all of Dotard's diaper leaks from the residence carpets will be a full time job for a large crew.

There aught to be a law against this. I mean seriously.

#16: The reunification of Germany will seem like child's play in terms of money, time, and resources to un-a$$ America after Dummkopf Trumpf. And the next Dem POTUS will again have a lot less money to work with in the US Treasury, a problem that has plagued every Dem POTUS for decades thanks to the consistent off-shoring of US oligarchic wealth and their GOP enablers in Congress.

"The Ground Floor, State Floor, and residence floors of the White House are approximately 55,000 square feet."
www.whitehousehistory.org

So about twice that square footage.

Big, fat, overdone, and gross.

Perfect Trump monument.

Any open, competitive bidding involved?
As for cost overruns, who covers that?
Answer: Whoever wants to bribe Waddles through his unquenchably thirsty ego.
Reminds folks why there was a guillotine installed in the Place de la Revolution.

If the DEMs do not take the House or Senate in 2026, this will morph into a throne room for the new Trump family dynasty. If that happens the US will become a second or third world country and China will become the world's only superpower - better start learning Mandarin sooner rather than later.

Trump is bored. This'll give him a project right up his alley. He's a glorified interior decorator at heart. He can now look at paint cards and fabric swatches all day. It's all he has ever cared about. I hope the place burns down.

#23 | Posted by lee_the_agent at 2025-08-01 10:42 AM

Will there be cake?

I hope there is cake.

Daddy Warbucks Trumpy is spending our taxpayer money so wisely. Don't you think?

A golden gilded ballroom was the one thing America was missing and so desperately needing. And with all the money DOGE and -------- saved Americans so why not?

Thank the gawds Trumpy saw the need of the People as they cried out, "We need a ballroom Daddy!

Daddy saw the need of the people and took pity and built the People a ballroom.

Thank you Daddy. We shall call it The Daddy Big Balls Room.

"Thank you Daddy. We shall call it The Daddy Big Balls Room."

I think The Donald is thinking more like The Coronation Room!

Peter York's Dictator Style: Lifestyles of the World's Most Colorful Despots (www.amazon.com) came out a few years back, but it's well worth tracking down for those who appreciate the tasteless tackiness associated with so many narcissists who attain serious political power.
