Why waste the incredible resources needed to do it in an hour, when Pres Putin can, and seems to be, destroying it slowly from within by social media disinformation?

A house divided ...

@#5 ... It Sucks,when you're the target,don't it? ...

Again with the second-person reference.

OK, I have to ask, can we have the prior person behind the Effeteposer alias back?

In spite of the phlegm that current alias posted, at least it appeared to have a couple of neurons to rub together.

I think the neurons are still there...they're just occasionally drowning in a sea of alcohol.

They're working the snow fields of Siberia.

lol...we could destroy Russia on the inside of 10-15 minutes...
an hour?! pfft!

your missles Mother Russia, would never have time to get off of
the ground, unless you pre-emptively fired, and then probably
20% would hit your own nation.

lol. Russia, the world's laughing stock...

Both sides can nuke each other in about 12 minutes. It's not that far from the arctic circle to Moscow or NY for an ICBM that's has a peak speed close to 18,000mph.

#10 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2024-02-06 10:08 AM | Reply

Russian nuke subs are the only serious threat to the US that Russia has, and they are effective weapon systems that have to be respected.

#11 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2024-02-06 10:09 AM | Reply

So the Russians are playing the M.A.D card?

#12 | Posted by randomcanyon at 2024-02-06 10:10 AM | Reply

How many nuke subs do they actually have that are known to be operational?

Ukraine has pulled back the curtain on Russia's military capability, I'd have to imagine questions of their nuke readiness has to be leading to some questions of whether that rattling sound is the saber or the empty scabbard.

#13 | Posted by jpw at 2024-02-06 10:35 AM | Reply

Ukraine pulled back the curtain on the Russian Expeditionary Force.

One thing the US and Russia both do is quietly fund the submarine services and not talk about it.

There are 7 Borei class, with 16 missiles each with 6 warheads, in addition to 8 more Delta class, operational and regularly deployed, with 16 missile each with 4 to 10 warheads each. That's a minimum of 1,200 warheads between 100kt to 500kt, mostly 125 kt warheads, for a guestimate of 150,000 kilotons they can throw at us with 15 minutes notice, just from submarines.

#14 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2024-02-06 10:51 AM | Reply

There's enough warheads on just the submarines to nuke every city in the US with a population above 100,000, 4 times.

and for getting the curtain pulled back, yeah in some ways, but does it matter? Russian momentum is continuing to build. They've entered Avdiivka and the fighting is now house to house. Ukraine doesn't have the reserves.

Ukraine has to generate another 500,00 troops, train them, resolve the trash logistics that NATO forced on them by sending them vehicles from 15 different countries with 15 different logistics trains and few spare parts, and get them to the field by Spring/Summer 2024 or they will lose in the long run.

The idea that they even had a chance of winning, ever, was inconceivable prior to the total mediocrity and ineptness of Vlad's Excellent Adventure.

#18 | Posted by Corky at 2024-02-06 11:03 AM | Reply

That was the mainstream belief. All of the "mil bloggers", basing the knowledge on simulators showing gear working exactly like wikipedia says it should, where logistics, maintenance, and corruption don't matter, absolutely knew Russia would roll them up in a few days like the US forces did to the Iraqi military.

Anybody's that's ever done anything OPFOR related, foresaw a -------- of forests with a slav behind every tree with an RPG and a quagmire waiting to happen.

We are as vulnerable as we have been since the 50's.

Nothing has really changed. We use to practice getting under our desks in case of a nuclear exchange.

Now we practice hiding in closets and bathrooms and running from mass shooters.

Memento Mori.

Remember Death.

It's always near.

"Now we practice hiding in closets and bathrooms and running from mass shooters. "

With the added bonus of having to talk to every person we are hiding with to find out their pronouns, and making sure they agree with our politics or we can't hide together.

"...but would never know how it turned out."

That's hilarious :-) It's true, IF they had the power it would mean they have nukes in key places. By the time those nukes do their damage, Russia would have a ton of nukes hitting them. Either way, it would be a nuclear Winter for generations who actually live.

This 43 yo woman Margarita Simonyan is part of Moscow's kleptocracy's vast propaganda machine, a machine that's paid this apparatchik of Putin's Sochi Mafia very, very well.

See:
www.state.gov

The democratic world needs to address Kremlin propaganda to the fullest extent possible. Moscow's disinformation fuels public support for Muscovy's aggression against democracy everywhere.

How can the democratic world counter the Putin-Kirill-Medvedev propaganda machine? If drones could carry unbiased news to reach and inform most Russia's average civilians about Muscovy's corrupt government and about atrocities it has committed in Ukraine and elsewhere, and about the way RT and the rest of Russia's media misinforms them, perhaps the average common person living under Moscow's dictatorship would demand change.

RT's blasting the US and playing the "nuke-em" script is merely Putin's government's way to keep him in office this "election" cycle and to sustain Russia's public indifference to Russia's crimes, and to prep them for more violence against the West and against West-leaning political idealist in the former Soviet Union or any of its former satellites.

So who cares what RT spouts about? What can we or the rest of the world do to burst Moscow's vast propaganda bubble?

You're forgetting about the importance of wearing masks if required to shelter from a nuclear attack.

Which the western Navies monitor closely. Many would likely be sunk before they could reach their launch containers.

I think a bigger threat would be the KH-102. It can be air-launched over mainland Russia and still hit targets in the US.

#27 | Posted by madbomber at 2024-02-07 02:44 PM | Reply

Assuming you're in a Hunter Killer sitting 1 mile away from the boomer, it takes 1.15 minutes to travel the distance, not including the time to it takes to load and shoot. Assuming you shoot when the first missile leaves its tubes, it will have fired at least 4 more ICBMs before the MK48 gets there. That's still 85+ missiles with enough warheads to hit every military target in the US and every population center about a quarter million people with an average 125kt.

It's still doomsday, even with a top tier performance from the US Navy.
