Donald Trump has vowed to immediately halt offshore wind energy projects "on day one" of a new term as US president, in his most explicit threat yet to the industry and the latest in a series of promises to undo key aspects of the transition to cleaner energy.

@#4 ... So I guess Big Oil has followed through on giving him $1 billion for his campaign. ...

Big Oil caused greedflation by raising gas prices to generate record profits, and to help the Trump campaign.

The higher gas prices benefited the Trump campaign because Pres Biden was blamed for the high gas prices, when it was Big Oil's greed that caused those high prices.

I guess biden should have had a pandemic like trump to result in cheap energy costs.

Well, my electricity rate is lower than it was in 2019. You know, when the orange menace was 'president'. But I'm in TVA territory, there are no profits. Socialism works!

Gas price? I don't actually know. I use so little of it with my plug-in hybrid that I don't pay attention.

Global Warming has its champions...they are idiots, but they are proud of their idiocy. Imagine being a high school science teacher who is asked about global warming and whether using windmills help or hurt. He, or she, would be quite tempted to answer ins a way that helps the kids learn the truth about the politicians stopping the fight against global warming, but that would get them fired.

Biden should promise to approve a huge wind farm off the coast of Mar-a-Lardo... On day one.

The people trying to stop Offshore Wind Farms in Jersey aren't Trumpers. It's locals watching a bunch of dead whales wash up, which may or may not have anything to do with the turbines, it's still being investigated.

I used to debate corporate tools like Hughmass.
Now I don't waste my breath on people like him that
wouldn't recognize common sense if it ran over them

We are not headed for a 1.5 degree C increase, but for a 3.0 degree C
increase by 2100. I will leave 'your brilliance' to look up
what that means for humanity on earth.

Here is a good place to start though. From a Physicist, not a

No I judge trump's economy accurately - by looking at the economy at the start of biden's presidency.

Just like I judge obama's presidency by looking at the economy at the start of trump's presidency.

Dems always hand republicans a great economy and then repubs destroy it before handing it back.

Last year, 30% of the world's energy was generated with win turbines and solar.

Here in the U.S., Texas has fully embraced wind-generated energy, for instance.

BTW, look for Russia and Saudi Arabia to cut production shortly before the election to help Trump so people are whining about gas prices again.

The irony being the whales are being killed by shipping strikes as whales migration changes due to climate change, being entangled in fishing nets, and swallowing plastic-essentially a result of plastic pollution, i.e. the OPPOSITE of a windfarm.

Trump has a lot of plans for 2025.

Get back at rivals.

Fire millions of employees from the federal government.

Deport million of people living in America.

Invade Mexico.

Reclassify the LGBTQ+ as second class citizens.

Dismantle public education.

Further deregulate the oil industry.

Eliminate off shore wind farms.

That's the fast answer people want it to be, but it's not so straight forward. The initial installs of wind farms will have negative effects on sea life, as they ship all of the hardware into place then hydraulically jackhammer massive steel casings into the ocean floor for anchoring. After it recovers the sea life will improve down the water column and make for great fishing.

#31 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2024-05-16 08:47 AM | Reply

If you can deafen a whale with sonar, it's reasonable you can deafen a whale with hydraulic hammers on the ocean floor. A deaf whale is going to have a hard time detecting a ship. It doesn't mean you can't install, but a thorough environmental review will limit when the install can happen.

#32 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2024-05-16 08:51 AM | Reply

Here in Okiehomie we have enough wind power to supply the entire state, or the City of Chicago, and our resources are only about half developed. Greater development of wind and solar energy is the smart long-term play for the US, especially with the current battery technology to keep the juice flowing when the sun doesn't shine or the wind speed falls. The alternative is rolling blackouts, right Texas?

"Texas is the leader in wind energy generation in the United States, with the largest installed capacity at 36,008.9 megawatts in the third quarter of 2023. This is 27.1 percent of the nation's total."

Energy mix doesn't matter if it's poorly managed.

Sonar is probably a million times louder. (Conservative estimate.). Also sonar moves around, whereas what you described would simply be a temporary area denial weapon.
