Considering that three of the members of the Reichwing super majority were named by an illegitimate occupant of the WH who a jury just found committed 34 felonies CHEATING to STEAL the election, Dems should run on expanding the court to reexamine EVERY ruling this court has forced down our throats during their reign of error!

The Supreme Court also expanded the powers of President Biden if America has the good sense to re-elect him AND de-elect King Donald's wanna-be "court jesters" in the House and Senate.

Then, on January 21, 2025, start impeachment proceedings against Alito and Thomas.

That should fix things up in a hurry.

I have another suggestion but it's kinda bloody.

Dems should run on expanding the court to reexamine EVERY ruling this court has forced down our throats during their reign of error!

Brilliant! Sounds like the team that "prepared" (and "overcooked") Biden for the "debates" : tell the people what they don't already know ("Trump is a FELON found guilty on 34 counts, can you believe THAT!?" ... only to find out that Biden's son Hunter is not only a FELON, but "A FELON AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL," apparently a BIGLY FELON level that "nobody's ever seen before!" **) and what the potential voters are really interested in (how "handicapped" both geriatric old-timers are and which one was, in their own words, the BIGGEST LIAR and BIGGEST LOSER) and care about - because nothing says "LOSER" more than explaining why you want to expand SCOTUS now, after insisting many times over the years that you have no intention of expanding the highest court because it would only "politicize" it... and of course, give the same opportunity to the other side, when they get "their turn" ... which may seem to be sooner than we think.

Exhibit A (of exhibits A-Z): thehill.com - Biden: Expanding Supreme Court would 'politicize it maybe forever'

If Dems want to be ridiculed even more than they are now, and not just by Trumpers, this would be one way to go.

And be careful when you try to expand the power you want to give [any branch of] the "government," just because you might think for a moment you will be constraining it... and you probably won't like it "in the long run," because "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. ... still more when you [add] the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it."

Want to limit substantial existing corrupting power? Start by taking some real power back, e.g., a relatively simple and easy to pass constitutional amendment to take the UNCONDITIONAL power of ONE single man to decide who gets a pardon - especially in light of Trump's recent pronouncements of granting a pardon to himself (and bunch of other criminals) that should be very popular and bring people to vote... and would send a loud and clear message to all branches of federal government... and hopefully, done at the states / Governor level, too.

As far as campaign is concerned, 20 percent of your issues should provide about 80 percent of your votes - SCOTUS Dobbs decision is one of the top 5 issues almost all voters care about, other issues vary state by state - that's where Dems have clear advantage and should concentrate their resources, not distracting voters with minor issues (that someone in the campaign is interested in) that may split or antagonize some voters.

** BTW, I have warned before the "debate" about futility and puerility of "reminding" viewers about Trump being a felon, but I guess that was in the "script" - apparently the same people / team who came up with "Bidenomics" and "fighting shrinkflation" haven't been fired yet. And the huge drop in viewership from 2020 debates should tell us that most people already know more than enough about these candidates, and are uninterested, except for expecting a spectacle... which is what they got. This in itself may be a "graceful enough" (if there is any) reason to cancel the second debate.

Terrible, horrible decision with terrible implications.

But, Biden now has the authority (if he would use it) to
have Trump arrested now as an 'Enemy of the State'.

But he likely won't...he's 'Old World politics', believes
in politeness and such. Even though the GOP SCOTUS basically
just threw that in his face and in the garbage.

I think he should just call the military, have Trump and his
enablers arrested. It would be in his 'newly granted powers'
now.

EARTHMUSE

"with Biden's newly expanded powers"

Or he could just take a shortcut and order the imprisonment of both Alito and Thomas on the grounds of which we already know their guilt. And throw Roberts in as an enabler and co-conspirator.

Then, in order to maintain the correct forum (uneven number) President Biden could appoint three Pro-tempore civil servant judges (pluck them out of retirement) for as long as he thinks necessary (possibly a rotation) to overturn the political corruption of the previous court.

The President doesn't need Senate confirmation for civil service employees.

So, it looks like ------- will have his 34 convictions thrown out due to this immunity.

---- republicans.

In the long term this ruling isn't good for democracy no matter who the president . In the short term it won't be good for the Democratic party if Trump gets re-elelcted, but it also won't be good for the Republican party, a fact that many high-fiving conservatives seem to be overlooking. A President Trump won't be limited to going after his political opponents in the Democratic party. He will be able to go after his opponents in the Republican party, the media and the business community as well. Anyone who questions him in anyway can become a target of some punitive "official action" on Trump's part. Not that there is much of it going on right now anyway, but I don't see how robust debates within the Republican party will be possible. It will truly be Trump's way or the highway from now on. That's what it means to have a president who is above the law and who is now a king aka a dictator by default. Killing democracy as well as your own party is a very short-sighted, dangerous and destructive way to own the libs.

My favorite part will be when the Republicans loving the SCOTUS immunity decision cross Trump in some minor way and suddenly Find Out.

That's bound to happen. Everyone in Trump's orbit eventually winds up under a bus.

It's almost as if--and stop me if you've heard this one--everything Trump touches dies.

If nothing else, I think what he has promised them is to carry out the Project 2025 plan. They really don't care if America becomes a fascist nation as long as it is a Christo-fascist one. It has become aboundantly clear they have only been paying lipservice to democracy.

Joyce Alene
@JoyceWhiteVance
Here's the deal: none of this happens in a vacuum. We have to look at Project 2025, Dobbs, Loper Bright, yesterday's immunity decision & Trump's onslaught of authoritarian plans like the one below all together. That's the future we get if he returns to office.

Steve Benen
@stevebenen
In light of the Trump v. U.S. ruling, perhaps we should be chatting a bit more about the Republican's eagerness to amplify messages about "treason" and "military tribunals" for his perceived political foes?

Just an observation:

Following WW2 there were these things called the Nuremburg Trials.

During those trials Nazi leaders were held accountable for their crimes.

If Hitler hadn't done the one good thing he did in life and killed Hitler, Hitler, as commander in chief of the armed forces, would have been found liable for the war crimes he committed.

------- need not worry about that.

------- is IMMUNE from crimes against humanity, crimes against peace, etc.

I REALLY don't think that the SC thought this through too well.

If you haven't looked at Project 2025 then you are not paying attention. This is the future of America now.

It's pretty much a done deal now. Sure glad I am not a government employee now. At least you have 4 months to try and find a job where Trumpy's tiny hands (and his magic sharpie) can't reach you.

So. You haven't read project 2025. Or worse that is what you want America to become.

If you aren't worried then you are either not paying attention or you don't care and are enjoying watching our democratic institutions crumble.

Republicans are Against both America and Democracy.
They have sold their souls to the Autocratic forces
of Oligarchy within this country. They need to be
torn out, 'root and stem' from this country, or I don't
see how America survives another decade.

Someone high up in the military needs to have a frank
discussion with Biden this week...this very week, and
explain to him where we are headed without his action.

American presidents have long placed themselves above international law. Now they are also immune from domestic law.

Be prepared to share some of what the rest of the world feels, Americans.

So ironic this happens on the heels of 95% of congress from on both sides of the aisle effectively giving Israel immunity from international law when it comes to genociding the Palestinians. I mean, what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, right? #weareallpalestiniansnow

Biden can now lock up (or worse) all 6 of the fascist SC court justices and pick 6 or more new ones. Why? Because he's the new king. Hey fascists, you built that!

"Dead Presidents weep."

I would think all former presidents believed they had this immunity anyway.

The SC may have solidified it for them with this ruling but I would have to think presidents believed the protection was already in place.

And the fact no president was ever jailed for breaking the law even though many did break the law is proof enough.

NO former Presidents ever thought they could send Seal Team 6 to kill a political opponent and get away with it.

"Take the now-classic example of a president ordering Seal Team Six to assassinate a political rival.

According to the logic of the Republicans on the Supreme Court, that would likely be an official act.

According to their logic, there is also no way to prove it's "unofficial," because any conversation the president has with their military advisers (where, for instance, the president tells them why they want a particular person assassinated) is official and cannot be used against them."
