Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, March 23, 2025

On the night of Saturday, March 15, three planes touched down in El Salvador, carrying 261 men deported from the United States. A few dozen were Salvadoran, but most of the men were Venezuelans the Trump Administration had designated as gang members and deported, with little or no due process. I was there to document their arrival.

"The intake began with slaps. One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, "I'm not a gang member. I'm gay. I'm a barber." I believed him. But maybe it's only because he didn't look like what I had expected"he wasn't a tattooed monster.
..
They entered their cold cells, 80 men per cell, with steel planks for bunks, no mats, no sheets, no pillow. No television. No books. No talking. No phone calls and no visitors."

The photography is excellent.

This is pure authoritarian rule.

Does Trump intend to ignore federal justices until.. he arrests them?

The primary law addressing illegal entry into the U.S. is Section 1325 of Title 8 of the United States Code, which outlines penalties for entering or attempting to enter the U.S. at any time or place other than as designated by immigration agents

There has been no evidence that any of those sent to El Salvador were ever brought before a judge, given due process, or even that the US Government did anything even close to due diligence in determining who was on the plane going to El Salvador.

And for the record (once again this evening), I will say that if you are in this Country illegally, you should not be here.

Yeah, that i my view.

However, and this is a huge however, companies have built their success upon the use of illegal immigrants.

So, maybe, the goal should not to be the illegal immigrants, but the reason why they are drawn into our awesome Country.... jobs.

At the risk of being redundant ...

An excerpt from the Border Patrol Union webpage that was deleted during fmr Pres Trump's term:
web.archive.org

  • Walls and fences are temporary solutions that focus on the symptom (illegal immigration) rather than the problem (employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens).

  • Walls and fences are only a speed bump. People who want to come to the United States to obtain employment will continue to go over, under, and around the walls and fences that are constructed.

  • Walls and fences will undoubtedly result in an increase in fraudulent documents and smuggling through the Ports of Entry.

  • Walls and fences do not solve the issue of people entering the country legally and staying beyond the date they are required to leave the country, a problem which will undoubtedly increase as more walls and fences are constructed.

"Does the US Constitution Protect Undocumented Immigrants?"

    Actually, it does.

    www.pbs.org

    Right to due process
What the law says: The Fifth Amendment states that "no person ... shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."

The issue of due process is at the heart of many immigration cases, including Reno v. Flores, the 1993 Supreme Court case that has returned to the spotlight with the surge in family separations. The case led to an agreement requiring the government to release children to their parents, a relative or a licensed program within 20 days.

In the ruling, Justice Antonin Scalia wrote "it is well established that the Fifth Amendment entitles aliens to due process of law in deportation proceedings."

Congratulations, thebull...you're farther to the right than Scalia was. MAGA goon.

    So, we can't do that.

You liberals are always trying to protect the world with OUR constitution.

That's why you are losing. The American people can see through you now. And I'm glad.

These folks were on American soil. Were they legally allowed due process, or not?

Constitution says yes. You say no...while invoking the Constitution.

    ------ all the way off.

This is how you can tell Boaz never read the US Constitution.

    "Alien Enemies Act of 1798"

    not used since WW II.

    Interesting.

The US can call these folks gang members but that doesn't mean the El Salvadoran Government has to.

So why is the El Salvadoran Govt incarcerating these guys like this? They are choosing to do this......because they trust Trump when he calls them gang members?

Same reason Trump wants to incarcerate people like this, right here in the Untied Staes.

You remember the Central Park Five. Trump would like them to spend out their lives El Salvadorian Prison style.

Yes we are. Good of you to notice.

These Truths that we hold to be Self-Evident are not only Evident when standing on American soil? Is that what you think?

Your momma dropped you on your head as a child right?

    Several times?

We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans--born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage--and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

    JFK (the wormless one)

PS- (Until the one known as "Trumpy" gets here. Then all bets are off and the world is on its own! )

Venezuela should accept her citizens back, then they wouldn't need to be sent to El Salvador.
They are accepting future deports now. I hope they can work a deal with El Salvador to rescue the ones there, that they thought they had got rid of for good.

They have nasty tattoos and Trumpy paid El Salvador $6 million dollars. That's all you need to know. Now stop questioning Dear Leaders decisions. Or you are next.

-Trumpy paid El Salvador $6 million dollars.

    I didn't know that.

That answers the question. Trump gave something to El Salvador in exchange for this.
