Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

... So why am I even talking about this? Because liberals have lost their minds over it, accusing both American Eagle and Sweeney of sending a racist message. Some have outright called the ads "Nazi propaganda" and an example of "White supremacy." It's a ridiculous overreaction to an advertisement featuring a successful, attractive celebrity. And it's the latest example of how the left refuses to let go of their woke agenda and identity politics, which were soundly rejected in the 2024 election

Left: this language might offend some people, let's not use it.

Right: this language will offend our enemies, let's use it and ridicule our enemies for being offended by something we already know they are offended by.

This article reads like something written to infuriate conservatives and compelled them to buy the product in order to hate on liberals and wokeness.

It will probably help the failing store and brand drum up some additional sales before going out of business.

... Because liberals have lost their minds over it, ...

Really?

The article cited as evidence in that OpEd is:

Fans Are Confused Over Sydney Sweeney's New American Eagle Ads
www.huffpost.com

... The ads for blue jeans use a double entendre that's making many fans think it's promoting white supremacy.

Sydney Sweeney's new ads for clothing retailer American Eagle, which play off the words "genes" and "jeans," have left some social media users convinced it's promoting white supremacy.

In one ad, the camera pans up Sweeney's legs as she's lying down and zipping up her jeans. She says, "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color." The camera reaches her face by the time she says, "My jeans are blue." The narrator then says the tagline: "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans."

Social media users expressed their discomfort with the ads, including TikTok user @hopeyoufindyourdad, who pointed out the ad's double entendre in a post with more than 790,000 views.

"They could have chosen a number of angles to go about this campaign, but saying that about a blonde-hair, blue-eyed woman right now who's dressed all like yeehaw America -- that says a lot," the user said, adding, "It's pretty obviously promoting European Centrism." ...

The sad thing is - by the standards of the late 90's/early 2000's - Sydney Sweeney isn't even all that hot other than the nice rack. I am not saying that she is a butter face - but - she cannot hold a candle to the women of the late 90's/early 2000's. Back in my younger days living in San Diego, I would see 10 girls better looking than Sweeney just working random retail jobs on Garnett Street in PB. I can not even imagine the liberal cries if they chose someone actually hot for the ad.

The GOP has a RINO problem - the Left has a rhino problem. Time for you pink-hairs to hit the gym so you don't need the high-waisted mom jeans to hide your gunts.

Not reasonably good looking women. Women hate women that look better than them.

This is why the size of the "models" has grown ... makes women feel good.

That marketing team, at this point, seems to me to be unable to rationalize their reasons for the ad.

Genius marketing - basically, the ones whining about the ads are too unattractive and poor to buy the product anyway. It is like when A&F told fat girls that they don't want them wearing their clothes. So, if the Democrat pink-haired rhinos won't buy and wear these clothes in public, it reinforces the brand image of beauty. Let those pink-hair rhinos stuff themselves into some skinny or high waisted mom jean to hide their gunts.

The Discourse Is Broken
How did a jeans commercial with Sydney Sweeney come to this?
By Charlie Warzel

"The trajectory of all this is well rehearsed at this point," Warzel writes. Progressive posters share genuine outrage; reactionaries portray them as hysterical; content creators glom onto the discourse while others wish people would channel their anger toward actual Nazis. And media outlets "round up these conversations into clickable content."
"What can start out as a legitimate grievance becomes something else altogether"an internet event, an attention spectacle," Warzel continues. "This is not a process for sense-making; it is a process for making people feel upset at scale."
"The Sweeney ad, like any good piece of discourse, allows everyone to exploit a political and cultural moment for different ends. Some of it is well intentioned. Some of it is cynical. Almost all of it persists because there are deeper things going on that people actually want to fight about," Warzel writes.
