Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 06, 2025

The first-term speaker flexed his muscles on Tuesday, securing eight veto overrides with aisle-crossing votes from Democratic Reps. Shelly Willingham of Edgecombe County, Cecil Brockman of Guilford County and Carla D. Cunningham and Nasif Majeed, both of Mecklenburg County. Willingham was an especially willing partner, joining House Republicans on six of the successful override votes. "We're going to continue to pass pro-growth, conservative legislation in North Carolina, no matter what the Democrats want to do or no matter whether the governor vetoes those things or not," Hall said in a Thursday video shared to the @nchousepress account on X. "We're going to continue to pass the best policies for the folks of our state, so stay tuned for more updates on legislation from the House."

North Carolina is generally considered a swing state, meaning it doesn't consistently lean "red" (Republican) or "blue" (Democrat).
While it has a history of electing both Republican and Democratic candidates to different offices, recent trends show it leaning slightly red, especially in presidential elections. For instance, Donald Trump won North Carolina in both the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections.
However, the state remains competitive, with both parties investing resources and vying for votes. The 2024 presidential election in North Carolina, for instance, was considered a tight race where a win in the state could have been crucial for either candidate, according to Al Jazeera.
Factors like voter registration changes, the turnout of specific demographics like Black voters and younger voters, and the impact of issues like abortion rights can influence the outcome of elections in North Carolina. It's a state where a slight shift in voter behavior can significantly impact the final results.

It isn't just Boaz.

Suburbrs exist because white people don't want to live around black people.

Now, white people are changing latitudes and time zones to dodge the impacts of slavery and colonization for another generation or two, they hope.

Oh please. Suburbs exist because people like space and reduced crime. At least in my metro area, the typical city house is 900 to 1400 square feet or so. There are larger ones, but they tend to be multi story (3 story vs 2) or in historically wealthier neighborhoods (dare I say the old suburbs...) where the space was available to build the larger homes. They're largely confined to a few areas of a few square blocks (have seen some really cool historical houses in those areas).

You can see the size expansion in homes coincide with temporal expansion of the city limits.

The suburbs follow the same general trends of the metro area - northern suburbs are largely black with some Hispanic. Western suburbs are largely immigrant and white while the southwestern and southern suburbs are largely white.

That's my particular anecdotal example, but it jives with multiple places I've lived and the data I've read indicating suburbs are increasingly desegregating.

The segregation is more along lines of socioeconomic class than race. Hell, the southern suburbs ("so co" in local lingo) are the most segregated and white parts of the metro area but are generally thought of as just slightly worse than the worst parts of the city.

According to Snoofy's "hypothesis," it must be because black people are moving out to the suburbs.

Another example of a liberal/Democrat thinking just because they say something, it will make it true.

The whole truth is, no matter where they are, people would rather live around poor whites than poor blacks.

Suburbs exist because people like space and reduced crime.

Suburbs exist because liberals found out that over crowding sucks. They have kids and discover the crap they did as kids isn't always a good thing. So they try to move them to more space and quiet to raise their kids.

Hypocrisy in action. Problem is, they bring the mindset that ------ up where they were to the suburbs and continue the blight.

I live in a relatively well off area of N.C. And yes, it's predominantly white. When I was growing up, it used to be farmland. Now it's is it's own city. And everyone in Winston Salem is trying to move here. But now housing prices are through the roof. Why? Because there is a certain culture that isn't here. People have learned to price out the bad behavior. Turns out, people who are successful act a certain way and everyone wants to live near that. Because of that, the school systems are the best in Forsyth County. Housing prices reflect that. Of course, the Democrats in Winston noticed and are trying to redistict the school systems to bus the poor, malcontent kids to the better districts. But our residents held firm. We didn't spend millions to live here only to have progressives try and force bad behaviors and lifestyles on us.

But NC isn't red. It's a truly purple state. NC just has corrupt MAGA politicians usurping power.

NC is just like Texas. The only way both states stay red over the long term is for MAGA to cheat and oppress.

This idiot doesn't even know what or where I'm talking about but he still swings in with duhhhhhh LibRuLz!!

The poor whites and poor migrants like to live with poor whites. That's why it's so segregated.

And it should have been "slightly BETTER than the worst parts of the city." You're less likely to be the victim of a homicide or violent crime, but there's high likelihood of property crime, B&E, auto theft...

Suburbs exist because people like space and reduced crime.

Two pathologies in play there.

1. Dips*&^ needs to feel exclusive and better than others. So he fabricates nonsense reasons to believe it.
2. Dips*&^ is a Trump cultist so he picks up Dear Leader's speech patterns.

I'm three hours from the beach and three hours from skiing. The blue ridge mountains are gorgeous. Just an absolute shit ton of trees and open land. NC has quite a lot going for it that, at least in my opinion, outweigh the large number of people like Boaz that live here. We also have amazing medical care and pretty mild traffic.

We are leaning more purple, but as long as R's have control of the state house and can redistrict as they choose, I doubt many people from outside NC will see it.

I'm only here cause I'm stuck in bed after breaking my ankle in 3 places. Once I'm up and about I'll be back to working 60-70 a week, especially to make up for being out the past 3 weeks.

So I'll have to pass on lunch but maybe in the future. I should be at 100% in another month or two at the outside.
