Spikes of fatalities linked to drinking that began with the Covid pandemic were not an anomaly. An estimated 178,000 people died in 2021 from similar causes.

The bloated orange pedo was killing 3500 Americans a day in January of 2021 with his abysmal response to the pandemic.

Having lost (multiple) friends and family to drink in the last couple of years, and knowing I'm going to lose even more if they don't turn themselves around, I believe it.

I can't read the attached article but how much of a jump is this 500 a day?

And I believe this from what I've seen.

A lot of day drinking started up during COVID and it unfortunately continued/escalated with some folks.

Ha! Our Russian friends are much greater at drinking than are Americans! Step it up, you Russia-lovers out there. You cannot own the Libs sober!

In all seriousness, if you have a problem and you're strong enough to admit it. It's okay to go get help and become a truly better person by staying sober. You friends and family will thank you; and eventually so will you.

Heil! he made the vax you liked so much but only after the election.

"Why do we think, God willing, when we get a vaccine " that is good, works " why do we think the public is gonna line up to be willing to take the injection?" Joe Biden asked on Wednesday. "We've lost so much confidence, the American people, in what's said [by the Trump administration]."

Sep 9, 2021 " Many of us are frustrated with the nearly 80 million Americans who are still not vaccinated, even though the vaccine is safe, effective, and ...

(Biden after the election, referring to the same vaccine)

If only it were that easy. But for those who are most predisposed to addiction, it is not. I think some people are simply more susceptible to addiction at birth.

I've smoked, drank, and done drugs. I've always been able to NOT do those things at the flip of my mind. I've also watched others struggle with such behavior their entire lives, and still not find the strength to stop.

I say this with all sincerity... thanks to whatever... I was not given that affliction.

When I first saw the posts on Facebook I honestly thought people were joking about drinking in the daytime. It never occurred to me.

It's among the leading causes of acquired brain injury in the nation. Both from neural damage caused by toxicity and from impairment-related injuries.

I really had no idea that this was so wideapread. As someone who is a fan of "stonergump" on TT, I have lost touch with drinking.

I quit using alcohol totally in October of 1974. I was told my skin was turning yellow by a doctor at the University Student Health Office, after an incident when I rolled my car, and got a nasty bruise from the seatbelt that saved my life. I got a cut on my head from the car's ceiling light when I released the seatbelt. Except for my car, there was NO property damage, and nobody else was in the car. Cold turkey was rough, but now it's been almost fifty years. I have two wonderful daughters who appear to like me. My marriage is solid. I did this without Jesus, meds, or counseling...in other words, I "did the bird."

The first year was pretty rough, but as I get better, the craving ended at about the two-year mark. These days I can watch and enjoy people portraying drunks on the teevee without feeling horrible, although sometimes there's a twinge of regret at some of the things I did and said. Way too many people in my life in the period from when I finished my enlistment in the USAF (11/70) until I got sober, will remember me as the always drunk -----. Oddly, I aced graduate-level applied math classes I have NO memory of taking. I can't help this, it's the past, after all.

Deaths due to Biden Dem policies and Fentanyl. Deaths due to Dems and their protected Oxycontin prescribers and manufacturer. The common denominator is that Democrats are killing off white Americans.

#18 I'm surprised the numbers aren't higher than 500/day. I guess I'm a bit jaded, a large percentage of people I encountered as a beat officer were under the influence. As a homicide detective, it was rare to read a decedent's toxicology report that was completely clear of alcohol or drugs.

What is astonishing is that this is not a national health alert or something of the sort.

I can see 500 police incidents.
I can see 500 hospitalizations.

I never realized it as 500 DEATHS per day. I guess this is approved to low priority.

What the hell do I know.

We did this to ourselves.

The human condition can be very painful. Human suffering is very real and has always been with us. And we as a society still do not know how to deal with pain and suffering. To ignore that simple fact and never address it properly will bring ruin upon us all. Alcohol as deadly as it is is still a socially acceptable way to kill the pain.

Unfortunately Alcohol is a poison and kills and can leave a wake of destruction in its path.

Meanwhile cannabis (which is only rarely deadly) is still classified as a schedule 1 drug. As "dangerous" as heroin LSD and meth.

I was fooled by society into thinking drinking was ok too until my wife became an alcoholic and had to go to rehab to recover. (Which we are still doing. They say we will always be in recovery.)

I personally have found that cannabis has helped me avoid the trap of alcoholism (the trap that my own father died from) and even more deadly drugs such as cocaine or opiates. As anything can be cannabis can be a double edged sword. It can be a gateway away from the more dangerous drugs as well as a gateway into them.

Dead people are notoriously bad about donating to political campaigns while living corporations are super fantastic at it. I'm not sure why you would be astonished.

It also doesn't help that they dedicated an entire isle or two to alchohol at the grocery store. I think making it that convenient has added significantly to the problem.

#27 Well Said, Donnerboy. My encounters with the youngest generations is equally concerning. Not only are many of them ill equipped to deal with hardship, they seem to feel entitled to the charmed and fulfilling lives they see on their social media feeds, and when they don't experience that, they feel wronged and fall into depression. They stay depressed even when their lives are going well. One of my nieces vascillates between envy of others who have the lifestyle she can't afford, and then feeling guilty over the relative privilege she enjoys over others who have much less. She's a caring social justice warrior, but at the end of the day she's still gonna buy the $500 handbag.

One essential truth of the human condition is that older generations will fear for the younger generation, that the younger generation is weak, or stupid, or sick or weird.

Nope, our kids will be alright.

And their kids will be alright.

And THEIR kids will laugh at the stupid ---- their parents did and their grandparents believe.

Hopefully, MLK was right and the arch of history bends towards justice.

My kids are all VERY different, but they share some common values-acceptance of others of all stripes, kindness, one is a far harder worker than the others, but they all have developed strong interpersonal skills which help them navigate through life. The fact that you are AWARE of your nieces feelings says A LOT, my x generation didn't have feelings, my kids have no problem expressing their feelings. that is the first step to working on their issues. So, no the next generation will be fine, if we leave them with a habitable planet and a functioning democracy.

Worries that no previous generation has had to address. There has to be a certain weight that comes with the ongoing threat of impending doom.

I've got two thirty-something sons and two small grandchildren. My sons' concerns regarding the environment are primary.

#32 Good points. I don't think they are weak or stupid. I do think that virtual reality is beginning to overshadow actual reality, and this filters and distorts their expectations and understanding of the world. The motives of those manipulating those lenses, and controlling the filters and algorithms are often less than altruistic.

The majority of people no longer believe that hard work will lead to a successful life.

Because, as we've seen for a half a century now:
Since 1975, practically all the gains in household income have gone to the top 20% of households.
