Fire at Governor Josh Shapiro's Home is Arson

Sunday, April 13, 2025

A fire that burned part of the governor's residence early Sunday morning in Dauphin County while Gov. Josh Shapiro and his family were inside has been deemed arson, the state police said. Shapiro and his family are safe and uninjured. They were in a different part of the governor's residence on North Front Street in Harrisburg when the fire was set around 2 a.m. while Shapiro and his family slept. The fire was successfully extinguished but it caused significant damage to a portion of the residence.

I've always tended to resist the tendency of increasing or expanding definitions of criminality like "hate crime" . Mostly because they tend to become politicized crimes. Politicized crimes of violence and property damage when they spread need to be considered at a more serious level because they breed and expand contagion and greater threats than simply one off non political crimes. Politicized crimes really do need reigned in promptly.
