House Republicans have added a plan to raise billions of dollars to help pay for US President Donald Trump's massive tax cuts through the sale of thousands of acres of federal land -- a politically charged idea that has drawn opposition from some in their own party.

... The plan, a late-night addition to a legislative package approved early Wednesday by the House Natural Resources Committee, mandates the sale of dozens of parcels totaling more than 11,000 acres (4,450 hectares) of federal land in Utah and Nevada.

In all, the committee's legislative package would raise more than $18 billion through increasing federal oil, gas, and coal lease sales as well as timber sales and other means. House Republicans are aiming for $2 trillion in spending reductions paired with a $4.5 trillion in reduced revenue from tax cuts. ...

GOP to Pay for Trump Tax Cuts With Sales of Public Land

Yeah, just like with the illegal firings of fed workers. Trump and the GOP want to create a fake surplus so they can cut taxes on billionaires. The permanent damage selling our national assets and losing valuable workers does to our country is not a concern for them.

When they say "America First," it's actually code for "Me First, Second, and Always."

Public Lands; the People's lands, are only valuable to Oligarchs as something to sell to give themselves tax cuts.

And Trumpers just don't care. And why should they?

They, too, will be Oligarchs some day, just you wait and see!

Anybody want to do real math with that one?

I see no problem as they are no taking about selling off national parks.

The U.S. federal government owns and manages roughly 640 million acres of land, which represents about 28% of the total land area in the country. Approximately 95% of this land is managed by four major federal agencies: the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Forest Service (FS), the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and the National Park Service (NPS).

Why does the federal government need 28% of our landmass?

FYI: "Over four years, the Biden administration protected more lands and waters"674 million acres"than any other president in history".

... Goals

We aim to ...

Keep the public lands in public ownership[1] and open to responsible use.

Support multiple use management of these lands under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act.

Support the long-term protection, conservation, and restoration of units of the National Landscape Conservation System, as distinctly unique among the public lands managed by the BLM [Bureau of Land Management]. ...

From that PDF...

... Over the years, there have been numerous proposals to transfer the BLM Public Lands to the states in which the lands are located and some suggestions to "privatize" all or some of these lands. Such proposals involve the transfer of tremendous national assets and revenues to a small number of fortunate states or individuals. While the public lands belong to all citizens, their location primarily in western states results in many citizens in other parts of the country being unaware of their existence or their value as national assets.

The federal government holds public lands in trust so that this generation and those who will follow us can enjoy both their beauty and their bounty. Congress has long recognized the national interest in preserving and conserving the public lands for present and future generations of Americans. In 1891, Congress created the first national forest reserves in the Pacific Northwest to protect them from the fate of the eastern forests, which had been denuded by unrestrained logging. ...

- "Congress has long recognized the national interest..."

The National Interest pales before the interests of Trump and the Oligarchs.

Which is the worst boy band ever, even though Trumpers can't get enough of them.

Can't wait until Trump is eventually treated like, "GW, who?" by Republicans.

"GOP to Pay for Trump Tax Cuts With Sales of Public Land"

All due respect, the headline is incorrect. It should be:

GOP to Use Sale of Public Land to Justify TRILLIONS AND TRILLIONS in New Borrowing for Tax Cuts

Maybe it was the character limit....

Sell off public lands?

He's getting desperate. Looks like the import tax scheme (without Chine) isn't going to rake in the $4.5 trillion he needs to keep his promise to all those wealthy campaign supporters.

It wouldn't surprise me either if China is well aware that Trump is against the wall and they have him pinned down.

Better question; why to the richest people among us need massive tax cuts? Bigger yachts? Private jets? Once our nation's most valuable assets are sacrificed at the alter of tax cuts they will be gone forever! Desantis had a ridiculous plan to let developers build golf courses a d resort hotels in most of our best state parks. The resistance was very apolitical, turns out Republivans love our beautiful parks just as much as Democrats. I hope we have a national movement about all f be ederal property remaining the property of the people of the United States; especially the young and even unborn. Those vast area of public land should protected from greedy billionaires who just hate taxes; their freed is sickening to even consider such a plan just so those
greedyggreedydisgusting people don't have to pay taxes that pay for the protections they enjoy having but just don't to pay for.

Because in a world where excessive greed and money is synonymous with power (Trump's world) too much is never enough.

Plus, if Trump doesn't pull off the tax cuts he promised, they won't be so willing to throw good money after bad in the future. They'll drop him like a rock and throw their support behind someone who isn't such a loser.

They might do it anyway considering how badly his import taxes have hurt their ability to operate profitably.

Selling public lands is a one time revenue raiser that is the sort of fiscal irresponsibility the GCCCP actively embraces in order to feed the never ending greed of the 1%

When that money is gone and the lands are gone, what then?

Certainly cannot ask the 1% to pay one nickel more in taxes.

This is late stage capitalism eating itself and is unsustainable.

#16: Hi Nixon: This is late stage capitalism eating itself and is unsustainable.

a) Agree. The Trumpf junta is behaving like this is the last time the Republicans will ever be in charge, so they are extracting and transferring as much wealth as possible from the USG and the masses before the 2026 midterm elections. These sales and transfers will be irrevocable, leaving the next Democratic administration an economic Weimar Republic with hordes of poor people struggling or in debt.
