David French, New York Times: It's hard to avoid the conclusion that the Trump administration is spoiling for a fight on America's streets.

It's too early to declare a constitutional crisis, and debating the label we attach to any new event can distract us from focusing on the event itself. But each day brings us fresh evidence of a deeply troubling trend: America is no longer a stable country, and it is growing less stable by the day.

"It's hard to avoid the conclusion that the Trump administration is spoiling for a fight on America's streets"

Donald Trump is a vicious man, a delusional man, and a man who wants to be dictator.

Violence towards our citizenry on some large scale always had to be part his this witch's brew.

Time to start imagining the self-righteous, self-glorifying speech Donald makes on national TV when he invokes martial law after the first several dozen Americans are shot dead by their own military in their own streets.

America is no longer a stable country is the understatement of the 21st century.

The impeccable US credit rating was recently lowered, Americans (and foreign visitors) suffer appalling levels of violence on our streets, diseases are spreading, food and aviation safety have been undermined, and the POTUS is a deranged dotard who has been excommunicating undesirables to Fourth World locations to their demises. The leader of the US cozies up to TWO indicted war criminals who are committing unspeakable crimes of war and inhumanity while threatening the citizens of his own country. The Dotard wants to annex other countries, like Panama, Canada, or Greenland, and has alienated allies and trade partners. The US has deteriorated into a Pariah AND Rogue State, like Israel, Russia, and once apartheid Suid-Afrika-- untrustworthy, cruel, and despotic.

What an understatement.

The USA is no longer "America" by any traditional or historical sense of that once great word. Trump has turned us into an autharitarian --------. At this point, I honestly would prefer to live in any Western Europe, Oceania, South American or Asian democracy. The only reason I stay here for now is because I know from long experience that this too shall pass.

STFU idiot. It was stable until six months ago.

You don't even know enough to know what happened at Kent State, so, again, STFU idiot.

I said it when it was clear Trump would be nominated again - MAGA will ensure I see the US as a failed state before I die.

Unless I die during this initial collapse thanks to MAGA s*&^stains being too stupid to vote.

Radical Democrats oddly always have anarchy and invasion as their most fundamental goal, never ever do they want unity or a peaceful country. Never forget they always put your family and home at risk. Remove their masks.

Well sure, but I remember 1968-1975, we had a lot of crap going on, we students shut down a lot of college campuses, Nixon stood on a car's hood to try and antagonize crowds so he could over react.

Radical Robson and One Note Oneironaut are here to school us on how to be good little fascists. Ain't happening, lamebrains. You can keep trying to crack your whip, dismantling every building block of American ideals you find, but we who oppose this authoritarian makeover are many, and we are not going anywhere. Eventually there will be a reckoning for your blind allegiance to the madman.

Of course it is unstable with a President who places personal loyaty to himself above loyalty to the Constitution and the nation. No country can remain stable if the rule of law is overturned by a President who pardons everyone involved in an insurrection. When Trump did that he set a very bad precedent! I read somewhere that Trump is considering reversing some pardons made by Biden. I just hope he is stupid enough to do that because that would open the door for the next President to reverse every single pardon Trump has granted.

The people who voted for Trump are unable or unwilling to acknowledge they made a bad decision, so they suppress whatever possible misgivings they might have about certain aspects of his aberrant speech and behavior in favor of some supposedly "big-picture" view of him. Sure, he's an authoritarian, but at least "he's in favor of strong borders," they'll say, or "He's really giving it to the libs!"

The result is a normalization of tyranny in exchange for the simple-minded comfort of a combative, ----------------------- mindset they seek in an increasingly complex and accommodating world.

Only in America is a strong border, and immigration policy deemed tyrannical.

What's interesting the only countries you deem tyrannical for strong immigration policy, and strong borders are western countries.

You don't complain about any other countries "tyrannical" policies.

I would t say it's unstable as much as it's no longer safe for Libs to engage in their repeated 21st century behavior.

I never said a word about free speech Donner, you're welcome to peacefully disagree. However, if you were honest with yourself you would acknowledge there hasn't been a lot of Peaceful Protesting going on with the Left and the past ohhhh 20 years or so of the 21st Century. A Peaceful Protest would be attending the No Kings protest (one I certainly wouldn't be at but I respect the opportunity for other who disagree with me), what's occurring in Los Angeles isn't a peaceful protest and that fundamentally is the behavior that will soon be no longer safe.
