Can't imagine how the budget talks will go this fall/winter. Dems, '---- off, you can't be trusted.' Took a long time to learn that lesson.

We don't need state funded media. They aren't being taken off the air, just losing their taxpayer funding.

It's funny Cons are always -------' about the state of American culture, yet they hate the ones who actually preserve it. You're not finding "An American Fourth" or the Lincoln Honors or Ken Burn's "Baseball" on a commercial station.

What free money, it's from taxes we all pay. Government is a service. You've already paid for it, why not use the services offered? You have no problem as long as your money is used for kidnapping and torture, why not use it to inform as well?

Boaz.

I realize you're too stupid to understand this, but governments collect taxes. Then uses that money to invest in their nation and the people of their nation.

European countries do it in a way that benefits everyone.

America does it in a way that only benefits the extravagantly wealthy.

They have morons like you defending them.

But, back to the topic of this thread ...

Maybe Pres Trump has an issue with PBS and NPR because they seem to tell the truth?

After all, it does seem that, currently, truth has a Liberal bias to it.

FYI: "NPR receives approximately 1% of its total funding directly from the U.S. federal government. While this direct funding is a small percentage, NPR's member stations receive an additional 8% to 10% of their funding indirectly from the federal government through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB)."

If they want to keep in business, I'm sure they will manage.

#34 | Posted by MSgt at 2025-07-19 03:38 PM | Reply

The spineless poosies in Congress capitulated to the orange-mud bully and allowed him to rescind the allocations they had already made. Entirely because he doesn't want any form of media that doesn't fall in line with his propaganda.

Even if I were to accept the argument that NPR's news programs are liberal, which I do not, news is only a small fraction of the programming on NPR. Last night, for example, I was listening to the excellent show, "On Point," and there was a guest who goes around the world recording the sounds of nature. He was in an Amazon rainforest, where he had captured the different frequency lanes, as he called them, of the various insects and frogs. It was quite lovely. A man who respects the complexities of the world around us. We need more of that, not less.

Man I bet the local NPR stations are going to be extra ------- during the Fall campaign drive.

#36 | Posted by Bluewaffles at 2025-07-20 02:52 PM | Reply

I happily made a large (for me) contribution to my local NPR affiliate yesterday, when they went on the air saying that they needed to raise money immediately just to continue operating after $376,000 was unceremoniously snatched back by the Trumpers.

Since I live in a sizable city with a thriving arts scene, I'm not too worried about making up for the loss of public funding for radio or television here. Part of me says good riddance to government dollars. The right has been whining about it for decades. I do worry about small towns and college-affiliated public stations, however. I'm sure some stations will have to close up shop.

All because the Trumpers' need to control the message. Funny, since the same people never shut up about "free speech."
