ProPublica has found multiple cases of women with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn't access abortions. Tierra Walker, a 37-year-old mother, was told by doctors there was no emergency before preeclampsia killed her.

"Anti-abortion leaders know that abortion bans kill women. They don't care. Or worse, many view dying from pregnancy as a good thing. In some cases, it's viewed as just punishment for "sinful" behavior. Other times, it's romanticized as a noble sacrifice on the altar of maternal duty ... . Abortion bans make crystal clear that, to the Christian right, no woman's life is worth saving. Anyone can be sacrificed, to protect their cruel patriarchal order."

AI suggests delivering of the baby is best, why?

Severe pre-eclampsia is treated with the delivery of the baby, though the timing depends on the severity and gestational age. While waiting for delivery, treatment includesmanaging blood pressure with antihypertensive medications, using magnesium sulfate to prevent seizures, and giving corticosteroids to help the baby's lungs mature if preterm.

Medications

Antihypertensives:

Medications like nifedipine, labetalol, or hydralazine are used to lower dangerously high blood pressure.

Magnesium sulfate:

Given intravenously to prevent seizures (eclampsia) and can also help slow preterm labor.

Corticosteroids:

May be administered if the baby is premature to help with the development of the baby's lungs.

Delivery

Delivery of the baby and placenta is the ultimate cure because pre-eclampsia is caused by placental dysfunction.

The decision to deliver is based on the severity of the condition and the gestational age of the fetus.

If symptoms are severe or worsen, immediate delivery may be necessary even if the baby is not full-term.

Other management

Hospitalization:Patients with severe pre-eclampsia are often hospitalized for the rest of their pregnancy for close monitoring.

Modified bed rest:May be recommended to reduce physical strain.

Continuous monitoring:The fetus's heart rate should be continuously monitored, and blood pressure must be closely watched.

"AI suggests delivering of the baby is best, why?"

Aborting the baby to save the life of the mother
was once commonly considered
the right thing to do.

But not any more.
Not for Republicans.

^
Well, there's your problem.
Delivering a baby that can't survive is the same thing as an abortion.
And abortion is so taboo in Texas, they won't do it, even to save the life of the mother.
Because what if some jury -- full of medical experts like you -- decides the abortion wasn't necessary?

The State of Texas abortion law allows legal abortion to save the mother's life.. What we have here is malpractice being paraded around as Texas killing women.

Hot wheels

Not just his count...

Scalia
Thomas
Comey-Barrett
Keggenaugh
Gorsuch
Trump
McConnell

They all have this woman's blood on their hands.

What we have here is malpractice being paraded around as Texas killing women.

What TX did was put a law in place with enough ambiguity and an AG so hell bent on threatening to jail anyone involved in an abortion that it becomes more acceptable to let her die than face the police state.

"In Texas, the law bars "aiding and abetting" an illegal abortion. As a result, many physicians have avoided even mentioning it, according to interviews with dozens of doctors.

In her condition, Walker couldn't fathom leaving the state. When her aunt suggested ordering abortion medication online, Walker was worried she could go to jail.
------
A small subset of lawyers and doctors argue that the law can and should be interpreted to cover patients with chronic conditions that are worsening in pregnancy. But the vaguely written bans threaten criminal penalties for performing an illegal abortion " in Texas, up to 99 years behind bars. In practice, few hospitals grant health exceptions, ProPublica's reporting has found."

99 years in prison is the threat that makes doctors risk letting a woman die rather than help her.

Maureen Dowd referred to Trump's suggestion this week that women who have abortions should be punished " a comment he swiftly retracted " when she wrote: "Given his draconian comment, sending women back to back alleys, I had to ask: When he was a swinging bachelor in Manhattan, was he ever involved with anyone who had an abortion?

Such an interesting question,' he said. So what's your next question?'"

I would bet thousands that Trump haas paid for at least ten abortions...come to think about it, let me amend that to write that he is responsible for at least ten abortions but almost certainly promised to pay for some that he never actually followed through on paying for.

Some one here said the physicians are guilty of malpractice. Looks like they found themselves having to choose between monetary losses or doing hardtime due to a zealous prosecutor. Did they make an intentional choice, I don't know. I know for certain if faced to make that type of choice I would be leaving the state for a better practice environment.

Just saw an episode of Downton Abbey where young 21 year old Sybil dies of preeclampsia while giving birth in 1919. The old doctor did not diagnose it while the younger doctor did and they could have saved Sybil's life if they had listened to him instead of the old idiot. I can see with these American Taliban Christians dominating women health care needs in Texas and other hick red states nothing has changed in the 100 plus years since the early 20th Century. These -------- should be ashamed of themselves but they are not. After all you know "Every sperm is sacred" and all that.

Republicans are "pro-life" (pro-forced birth) only until a human takes their first breath outside the womb. Then, F us all.

Slashing Medicaid for tens of millions and happily letting health insurance premiums skyrocket for tens of millions more isn't "pro-life" in the least. Health insurance is there to SAVE lives that otherwise would have ended needlessly.

What a steaming pile of hypocrites!

If Christ came back to Earth he'd castigate them and remind them that (per Matthew 25:31-46) they for sure ain't goin' to heaven.

And not just over issues like this. Catering to billionaires and causing the poor to suffer and die is as anti-Christ as it gets.

They doctor wouldn't give her one, even though her life was at stake.

Republicans have created a perilous state for medical providers, afraid they'll be arrested.

Hell, Texas will arrest anyone who provides transportation or travel arrangements for a woman get an abortion in another state even if they've been denied a medically necessary abortion in Texas.

Some Republican run states have made it a felony for counselors to tell women their options, in state or out of state.

Alabama made even telling a woman she can go to another state for an abortion illegal under an arcane 1896 law.

"The State of Texas abortion law allows legal abortion to save the mother's life."

If that was all Texas abortion law does, then this wouldn't be an issue.
The other side of the story, the one you can't comment on, is Texas abortion law.
Texas abortion law will send a doctor to prison for up to twenty years, if the abortion isn't really necessary to save the mother's life.
There's no real way to know if the abortion was necessary until the mother is dead.

The doctors did the right thing, assuming they don't want to spend twenty years in jail.
Texas did the right thing, assuming they want pregnant mothers to die before they can get an abortion.

"What we have here is malpractice being paraded around as Texas killing women."

That's AG Paxton's problem. Why won't he do something about it?
Because this woman's death is the desired outcome of Texas abortion law.
