"Since 1927, Congress has banned the USPS from mailing concealable firearms unless they were sent from licensed dealers. But in a January memo, the Department of Justice revisited the law, saying it was unconstitutional and arguing it violated the Second Amendment."

So many little hands and tiny pingas, so many packages to ship before Christmas.

IMO those wanting to ship firearms should stick with FedEx or UPS for safety and privacy.

AI Overview
UPS is generally better for cost-effective, reliable domestic ground shipping, while FedEx specializes in faster, premium air express and international deliveries

"with opponents of the bill calling it a potential "gun trafficking pipeline."

That's a feature, not a bug.

Widespread, unchecked small arms proliferation has been a domestic policy goal of Republicans since Reagan.
Because widespread unchecked gun crime helps advance the racist, xenophobic Republican agenda.

Percentage of crimes involving guns by state, 2024
National average
Percent of homicides involving guns 74%
Percent of assaults involving guns 33%
Percent of robberies involving guns 32%
www.security.org

Guns are used in 3/4 of murders and 1/3 of assaults and robberies.
Yet Republican mythology teaches us that guns keep us safe from these things.
Compare our homicide, assault, and robbery rates to other modern countries and you'll see we outpace them, by about as much as guns are used in those crimes here.

Safe and reliable enough for mailing deadly guns. But not for mailing ballots.

Got it.

You do realize that you can get a gun pretty much any day of the week in pretty much any town in the country, right? Do you really think this opens up some major market or something that's going to have a meaningful impact on the level of firearm ownership in this country?

More than likely this will just make it easier for people to ship firearms when traveling or moving.

You do realize that's the Republican gun control policy, right?

"Do you really think this opens up some major market or something that's going to have a meaningful impact on the level of firearm ownership in this country?"

Define "meaningful."

Does one gun getting stolen from the mail and used in a murder tell us the whole gun control system is broken, the way one murder by an illegal immigrant tells Republicans the whole immigration system is broken?

Probably not. So what's meaningful? Would Fast and Furious levels of firearms trafficking do it for you?

Firearms are the leading cause of suicide and the leading cause of death for children. If only there were some governmental official interested in a healthier populace in this country. Any ideas? Asking for thousands who will be shot dead this year ...

I bought a Mossburg bolt action 12 gauge thru the mail when I was 15 in 1966-not a great idea in today's angry America. My brother-in-law picked it up, held it about 2 inches from his shoulder and pulled the trigger. His reaction had me on the ground laughing my butt off.
