Hmmm... 100 and 70 years sentences for, 'attempted murder', eh?

Too bad they weren't the primary cause of 5 dead Police Officers while they were trying to overthrow the Government of the United States.

Then they could have been Paroled and paid Restitution.

Actually longer than Karmelo Anthony got for real murder.

All federal sentencing to be reviewed 22 Jan 2029.

They are Terrifed of Copycats.

The Excessive Sentences show a Real Fear of "Citizen Resistance" to ICE.

Which is an American Tradition, by the way.

Americans are historically willing to engage in Violence Against a Tyrannical Government.

It's Something Trump Encourages if it Benefits Him.

If he Fears the action he Imprisons the Perps for Centuries.

It's Very Totalitarian Actually.

That's so wild. You can stab somebody in the heart and get 35 years. The stakes of throwing fireworks at cops has gone way way way way way up.

Daniel Sanchez Estrada wasn't accused of attempted murder or material support of terrorism after a protest turned catastrophically wrong outside an ICE detention center in Alvarado, Texas. He was merely convicted of obstructing the investigation by moving a box full of antifascist zines after the protest. Giving him a long prison term would make a mockery of justice, his defense attorney, Christopher Weinbel, told U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor on Tuesday.

"The punishment must fit the crimes " not the headlines, not the politics, not the fears that have been mongered about the case," he said.

Instead, O'Connor gave Sanchez Estrada a 30-year term.

The lengthy sentence was among the eight harsh terms handed down by judges in two courtrooms in Fort Worth on Tuesday to activists who played roles at or after the July 4, 2025, protest at Prairieland Detention Center. Their sentences " longer than any of those received by members of the January 6, 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol " capped a case that is widely regarded as the Trump administration's first major victory in its crackdown on left-wing activism.

This is the sort of thing you see when you have a dictator in power.

It's exactly the sort of thing Hitler did.

Well, in North Texas they'll start to rot after a few decades. If the sentence stands, their bodies should sit there for 450 years.

At least do the whole story for Estrada:

One of the suspects contacted their mom from jail, who contacted Estrada, to go tamper with evidence before police could arrive.

"One of the incident suspects called her mother from jail and asked her to contact a man who had not been arrested; the man then contacted the jailed suspect, who asked him to "move whatever you need to from the house" and tow her car from another jailed suspect's house. FBI agents monitored the man as he arrived at his Garland house, removed several packages, and dropped off a box at a Denton apartment. Federal agents subsequently raided the apartment, discovering anti-government and anarchist documents, largely pamphlets and zines, in what appeared to be the box seen earlier.[4] On July 7,[28] the man was arrested in Denton and charged with tampering with evidence and conspiring to tamper with evidence. He was married to one of the shooting incident suspects, ICE said.[4] The renter of the apartment was not arrested or charged.[22]"

Take a moment to appreciate how stupid it is to call from jail and tell somebody to tell somebody to go hide things before the cops show up.

They listen to those.

"Take a moment to appreciate how stupid"

No doubt about that.

Still unclear what a box of zines is supposed to be evidence of.

#20 | Posted by snoofy at 2026-06-25 12:01 PM | Reply

It doesn't matter if they're evidence that makes it to trial or not, you can't receive instructions to move them from somebody under investigation and act on it. That in and of itself is what they were convicted of.

#22 | Posted by snoofy at 2026-06-25 12:55 PM | Reply

Also, don't police have to take custody of the evidence for it to be evidence? There's no chain of custody here so this evidence is already invalid.

The issue is whether you knowingly acted to conceal or move items to impede a criminal investigation, not whether you ran an ordinary errand.

Said items have no connection to any alleged illegal activity or the investigation thereof.

If said items were subpoenaed, that could make sense.

Thirty years is farcical though.

And yes I realize that's on purpose.
