These people, all parties, who hold positions of public trust - Jayzus, that sounds quaint - need to get their acts together. These offices are not intended to be lifetime sinecures. If you're not up to the job, get out before people show up to yank your sorry a## out of there. Get some goddamn dignity and root around for a sense of responsibility. You are not the office. Like Kean in NJ, someone clearly not temperamentally suited for public office, stop trying to explain and just get the ------ out.

Beshear never should've offered those two options.

Clearly, Mitch chose Shut Up.

That's what pisses me off when they get to carry their titles. Gingrich is still referred to as "Speaker" even though he's been out of office for decades. These are not royal titles bestowed for life.

Me, too, right up the walls whenever I hear it. Not sure when, how, or why it started but it's gotten way out of hand. When you're in office or actually holding a rank use of your job title is okay. But when you're out? Baby, you're o-u-t. You want to do it? Go for it. You don't? Please feel free to join me over at the lemonade stand. Same for standing up when so-and-so enters the room or makes their way to the dais. You want to show them some respect? Fine. You don't? Also fine. I mean, I would personally pick and choose because it can be taken as a hugely confrontational act by some people. But respect is earned. Rank and office are held and then they are not.

He's the Fucking governor of the state.

Can't he just show up and see what is going on with Mitch?

Democrats are fucking worthless.

If a democratic senator didn't show up to work for more than two weeks our rightwing controlled media would be howling for their resignation.

Sarah Palin is still called "Governor" and she was in office for like 2 years until she quit for convenience.

No, unfortunately, Dems have way more class than Pubs.

Good is good to Evil, while Evil is evil to Good. That's why Evil wins.

So I guess the president of my high school class should properly be addressed down at the Winn-Dixie as "Madam President"?

Mitch isn't going to answer the request from the governor, either because he is already dead, or so incapacitated that he cannot communicate. The GOP in Kentucky have long-known that this day would come, and changed the law so as to require a special election, and NOT allow the governor to appoint someone to fill Mitch's term. Covering up Mitch's infirmity or death is vital to the GOP. Rather than acknowledge the fact that he will never again appear on Capitol Hill, they are obfuscating so as to avoid the loss of the seat to a Dem.

As for going himself and checking out Mitch's status, I'll wager the governor has already sent someone, and they couldn't see (or view) Mitch, 'because he is resting'...

He should have gone himself.
