Donald Trump is the most hated man in the world for so, so many reasons.

There was a time when conservatives actually believed in the conservation of our natural resources.

But this is late stage capitalism, so time to strip mine, frack and drill.

And yet, they'll act shocked when someone starts shooting at mining and drilling operations.

Oh who am I kidding, since money is no object these days, they'll probably put NG troops around them to guard them and use any reaction as a claim of sedition or rebellion or some nonsense.

This is just fluff. Oil companies have made it clear they have no interest in new drilling.

They will certainly gobble up the leases for the future.

They'll still drill with what they have, but they won't be investing in this turbulent environment..

Why did they support such a turbulent puppet then?

Because higher oil prices are good for the oil business.

I visited this canyon and the peublos on my road trip with the family across the country.

prompting outcry from environmental advocates and members of NM's federal delegation.

This is interesting, as the Indians who inhabited this canyon caused massive deforestation. Scientists postulate that as the river dried up, the Indians resorted to cannibalism, the culture fell apart and the ag failed.

In some ways, this is like celebrating the invading Donner Party, only worse.

Oil companies have made it clear they have no interest in new drilling.

Thanks C0RI0LANUS! I'll be spending some time there. I 1st started reading his books in the late 70's/early 80's. Found a few of his old haunts at Arches in the early 90's, including the original road in when he was there, before the place got overrun, from reading Desert Solitaire.

"One final paragraph of advice: do not burn yourselves out. Be as I am - a reluctant enthusiast....a part-time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it's still here. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious, and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to the body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much; I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those desk-bound men and women with their hearts in a safe deposit box, and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this; You will outlive the bastards."

Trump and his supporters have been framing this as "giving land back to the people".

I'm sure they are.

There probably isn't a magical place on this (or any other) continent those sorry excuses for human beings wouldn't eff-up for a buck. Preferably stolen and unreported. That's what Trump, exemptions, legislation, exceptions, executive orders, and the Supreme Court are there for.
