Federal law enforcement officials arrested Alexander Smirnov upon his arrival in Las Vegas today aboard a flight from overseas. Smirnov has been charged by the office of DOJ special counsel David Weiss with making a false statement and creating a false and fictitious record.

Is anyone shocked to learn that key information in the GOP investigation into Biden is fake? Won't be surprised if we learn that Smirnov has ties back to Putin.

Before anyone tries to say this is Biden "weaponizing the DOJ" against Smirnov, I'll point out that the charges were brought by the same special counsel who indicted Hunter Biden.

More from the cited article...

... The indictment alleges that Smirnov's story to the FBI "was a fabrication, an amalgam of otherwise unremarkable business meetings and contacts that had actually occurred but at a later date than he claimed and for the purpose of pitching Burisma on the Defendant's services and products, not for discussing bribes to [Joe Biden] when he was in office."

Congressional Republicans have championed Smirnov's now-discredited allegations for roughly a year, though not by name. They fought with the FBI to obtain memos about what Smirnov told investigators and publicly released the materials over the FBI's objections. The congressional Republicans repeatedly praised Smirnov as "credible" and put his uncorroborated claims front-and-center in their impeachment inquiry into the president.

While announcing the impeachment inquiry, then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said "a trusted FBI informant has alleged a bribe to the Biden family."

The FBI is now using some of the same memos that congressional Republicans released as part of their indictment against Smirnov. ...

Oh, this ain't good. ...

Biden is in real trouble now. The GOP is going to impeach him for prosecuting criminals.

So the whole house of cards collapses. Everything the GOP had in their whataboutism kit bag is erased. I assume we'll hear a round of apologies from James Comer, Sean Hannity and the other usual suspects in Slackjaw Nation.

Lying liars who lie like lying witnesses who lie. If Republicans spent as much time governing as they spend chasing after imaginary Democratic corruption, they wouldn't be known as the do nothing Congress

Remember the 'Biden bribe' allegation? DOJ now says it was made up.
Analysis by Philip Bump

The indictment walks through Smirnov's communications with his FBI handler. In May 2020, Smirnov suggested to his handler that Biden would be "going to jail" over the leak of phone calls between Biden and former Ukraine president Petro Poroshenko--a leak that originated with a Ukrainian lawmaker who had provided information to Giuliani and was later sanctioned by the Trump administration as a Russian agent. Smirnov then said that the information about a bribe to Biden would "soon be in the news" and that he would try to prove it.

Giuliani's slapdash efforts to dig up dirt on Biden in Ukraine had led then-Attorney General William P. Barr to set up a process for assessing such allegations based out of the FBI field office in Pittsburgh. In June 2020, that office contacted Smirnov about a reference he'd made in 2017 to Hunter Biden.

Hunter's testimony on February 28 will be a real barn-burner of a time. MTG, Barkeep Barbie and Nancy "I'm not a Cougar, I'm a ----" Mace will be asking for pix from Hunter's 'hard drive', while the Dems will put forth questions that will allow the Young Biden to describe himself as an archangel. In the end Gomer Comer and Gym Shorts Jordan will march in front of the TV cameras and state that Biden confessed to all manner of criminal acts, but that because Faux News is a family program they could not release any transcripts. Jamie Raskin will then stop by to explain that the GOPers got nothing from the closed-door hearing, other than some wet undies...

DAVID WEISS IS A DIRECT WITNESS TO THE CRIMES ON WHICH HE INDICTED ALEXANDER SMIRNOV

On the day that Bill Barr aggressively intervened in the parallel impeachment inquiry and Hunter Biden prosecutions last summer, David Weiss' office sent out a final deal that would resolve Hunter's case with no jail time and no further investigation. Within weeks, amid an uproar about claims in an FD-1023 that David Weiss now says were false, Weiss reneged on that deal. With the indictment yesterday of Alexander Smirnov, the source of those false claims, Weiss confesses he is a direct witness in an attempt to frame Joe Biden, even as he attempts to bury it.

On June 7, 2023, Bill Barr went on the record to refute several things that Jamie Raskin described learning about Smirnov's FD-1023. Specifically, the former Attorney General insisted that the investigation into the allegations Smirnov made continued under David Weiss.

The best thing about partisan democrat witch hunts is the number of cl0wns caught in the process.
It's not unlike the much tamer Clinton beajae scandal almost a quarter century past.
It's more like hunting for porpoises and catching a boatload of tuna.

I'll comment and make it quick and easy, SCONY overturns bc this ruling has further effects on every bank and real estate firm in NY doing business together. That business has plenty of Libs that the AG in NY will have to go after in order to seem non-biased. Anyways, you're welcome for telling you what unfolds.

The lies that a now-indicted ex-FBI informant fed to the bureau about Joe Biden and Hunter Biden were at the "heart" of Republican's case against POTUS, Jim Jordan said just a few weeks ago.

Now?

'Tis but a scratch, House GOPers try to claim.

A now-indicted FBI informant was at the 'heart' of the GOP's case against Joe Biden

After the indictment of the source of false allegations against the president and Hunter Biden, Republicans are downplaying the extent to which they relied upon the claims.

Every DR commenter who is defending PO1135809, supporting him or trying to argue that Biden is corrupt has based their arguments on lies, fabrications and strategic Russian disinformation.

We cannot have a debate on any issue, because the right wing of this country lacks credibility. Nothing new, but the level of mendacity increases exponentially. Cult membership is a powerful foe to truth and freedom.
