Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, April 18, 2024

Jen Hubbell became a real estate agent in Greenville, S.C., because she believed a good life started with a good home, and now her phone buzzed regularly with calls from out-of-state clients who believed they could find both things in her city. Many were staunch conservatives from deeply blue states like New York, Washington and California, fed up with the politics there. Could Ms. Hubbell, a conservative herself, help them find neighborhoods of like-minded people?

Imagine someone from California thinking they'll fit in in South Carolina. Ain't no 24 hour taco trucks in Greenville!

Will they bring their pigs with them? Generally speaking, the more pigs, the more conservatives. I don't mean just the obvious red states like Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Nebraska, North Crackolina and South Dakota-- but the red areas within blue states such as Minnesota or Illinois.

You also have to look at the unacceptable number of wild boars running rampant in the southern states east of the Rockies-- something about feral swine rolling around in their own filth and the modern-day Trump Republican just seem to go hand in hand.

I did the opposite, lived in a big East Coast city and then settled in a small beach town in Florida.
Try to get a pizza around here after 9 o'clock, let alone anything else.

There's a Primanti Bros in Ft. Lauderdale which really surprised me.

The article is really just anecdotal stories being told by a few people who are experiencing some influx of newcomers. It's not really evidence of anything.

"Many were staunch conservatives"

How can you tell from a phone call?

Normal people don't start off finding realtor by ranting their politics ... ... just the -------- do that

Life is more expensive in liberal states.

Conservatives tend to be less educated and make less money than liberals.

When the option is to become homeless or move to a shht hole red state, the option is pretty clear.

Happy extinction!

Can't say I'm looking. The legal weed is cheap but the dispensary closes at 8:30.

I'm certainly not here for the politics. The ocean and a woman were my motivation.

Go for it.

Upstate NY is like the Alabama of the north east.

I think these articles are an attempt to convince people that politics are that important to them. So important they would move over it.

I think that's exaggerated.

"Life is more expensive in liberal states."

Life is more expensive in progressive states. Montana and Wyoming are far more liberal than New York or California. They're just "progressive" states.

You're welcome for me fixing that for you.

I disagree with the headline of the thread, "Conservatives are leaving liberal states"

That implies the reason for leaving the northern states is purely political.

Is it?

There's always been a move from the northern states towards the southern states (at least, once air-conditioning became a thing in the southern states. I mean, where would Atlanta be now if it were not for air-conditioning? And don't get me started on Miami.... :)     )

So, what has changed?

It's funny, I know more than a few retired WA cops who moved to AZ because they couldn't stand the librul politics in this state. And now...AZ is blue and getting bluer thanks to the GQP's desire to control women's freedom. I told one of my former coworkers she should think about moving to Alabama or South Carolina, where rich white neighborhoods get all the goodies and poor black neighborhoods still have lead water pipes despite federal dollars intended to fix that problem.

#33 | Posted by _Gunslinger_ at 2024-04-21 07:38 AM | Reply

When these self-identified "conservatives" leave "liberal" states and migrate to a pseudo-libertarian backwaters, it's hard to believe questions about the lack of suitable (or even adequate) infrastructure - often fueled by local unwillingness to pay for anything unless it's with "federal dollars" - doesn't come up. This has always been a get-rich-quick country and the consequences of this should be - but clearly aren't - obvious to pretty much everyone.
