If a state wants to enforce immigration laws, or enact new ones that put more teeth to them, they should be able to do it without federal interference.

States are not allowed to have and should not be allowed to have immigration laws. Immigration is entirely a federal question.

Immigration is Constitutionally a Federal responsibility as is enforcement of the laws. You can't have 50 states with different laws on it. Forcing people to have documents of any type just to live somewhere within the USA is a move to police state and big brother of which I am opposed. Having gained entrance legally or otherwise, they are still in the USA and subject to the same laws as anyone else. That said employment is what determines where these people live. Maybe states should target that. How many Okie farms shut down? Factories? Slaughterhouses? These people do present identification when they get jobs... Can't target those businesses because that is the GOP funding mechanism.

What we need is immigration reform. Neither party has the stomach for it.

The Federal Government is responsible for ALL immigration.

Full Stop.

The Federal Government is responsible for assuring that states do NOT usurp that authority and pass and implement laws contrary to federal laws.

Biden is NOT responsible for the asylum process being as broken as it is.

The Republicans refuse to give Biden the power that he needs as recognized on a bi-partisan basis.

The Federal Government is enforcing the Constitution.

It is not a federal crime worthy of 2 years imprisonment to be in America without documentation.

The Federal Government is enforcing the 14th Amendment.

#21 | Posted by ClownShack at 2024-05-22 08:09 PM | Reply

IMO this has nothing to do with Biden's border enforcement strategy.

It has to do with being a person that has a legal reason to be in the State.

By illegal, we are talking about someone that has NO documentation, no asylum, no work authorization. A gotta away as they are called.

Look I am all for an open border, but I am not for chaos.

Under what reasonable world would you allow an individual access to the same opportunity as someone that is documented?

If this is the case, why document? For the formality?

"It is not a federal crime worthy of 2 years imprisonment to be in America without documentation."

Every solution they have involves sending people to prisons or camps or somewhere else.
Look how they cheered when Republican governors send illegal immigrants and legal refugees alike to New York and Chicago and Martha's Vineyard.

Their solution for "problem" people is to make problem people go away.
They make women go away by making them care for an unwanted baby.

Not a single one, huh?

Because according to the internet, the number of arrests for illegally crossing the U.S. southern border with Mexico has fluctuated under the Biden administration, but overall remains high compared to historical levels.

Specifically, in February 2024, Border Patrol agents made 140,644 arrests of people attempting to enter the country between legal border crossing points. This was an increase from January 2024 when there were 124,220 arrests.

However, the February 2024 number was still lower than the record high of 249,785 arrests in December 2023, which had increased tensions over immigration.

The Biden administration has cited enhanced enforcement efforts by Mexico as well as seasonal fluctuations as reasons for the drop in arrests from the December 2023 peak.

Overall, in Biden's first three years through early 2024, over 9 million illegal immigrants had entered the country, including 1.7 million known "gotaways" who evaded arrest, according to Republican critics.

The number of "gotaways" (people entering illegally in ho are seen by camera, agent, etc but are not caught) during the 3.5 years of Biden is higher than the prior twelve years of Trump and Obama combined. That's by design. Today, the House passed a bill prohibiting non-citizens from voting in DC local elections. 143 Democrats voted against it.

It seems to me, and the Border Patrol that this incursion may be purposeful...

An excerpt from the Border Patrol Union webpage that was deleted during fmr Pres Trump's term:

  • Walls and fences are temporary solutions that focus on the symptom (illegal immigration) rather than the problem (employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens).

  • Walls and fences are only a speed bump. People who want to come to the United States to obtain employment will continue to go over, under, and around the walls and fences that are constructed.

  • Walls and fences will undoubtedly result in an increase in fraudulent documents and smuggling through the Ports of Entry.

  • Walls and fences do not solve the issue of people entering the country legally and staying beyond the date they are required to leave the country, a problem which will undoubtedly increase as more walls and fences are constructed.

Migrants told TTP that Facebook and WhatsApp connected them with individuals who promised to help them gain entry to the U.S., only to steal their money or abandon them in dangerous situations. ...

Illegal Immigration isn't just one problem, it's multilayered.

If the government didn't allow illegal immigrants to exist in the country do you think companies would be hiring them?

What came first the illegal immigrant crossing the border, or a company hiring an illegal immigrant?

The laws as I have stated are setup to protect illegal immigrants from corporations finding out their legal status.

Employers are prohibited from discriminating against employees based on their national origin or citizenship status. Employers cannot refuse to hire or terminate employees based on their immigration status. It is also unlawful to ask employees about their immigration status or national origin, except as required by federal law. To avoid discrimination claims, employers must implement policies that promote equal employment opportunities regardless of immigration status or national origin.

I am being realistic. We live in a capitalist country correct?? How many of us are willing to toil in the fields to bring in the crops for the wages that are paid to these workers?? Georgia went with a total ban on undocumented immigrants. They lost hundreds of millions of dollars due to unpicked crops. That's facts.

    1) define "allow."

    2) (and this is the important one for me...) As the Customs and Border Patrol union seems to think...

Why did the CBP union specifically call out employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens? ...

    Knowingly.

    Exactly.

Because the companies know those workers cannot complain about their working conditions because if they do, they may (likely) be deported.

That is a reason why the companies like them.

They cannot complain about the abysmal working conditions.
