... Trump, appearing at the Eden Center, the largest Vietnamese commercial center on the East Coast, was asked by a reporter, "How are you specifically preparing to debate Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee?" The Republican nominee responded, "I'm not, really, I'm not. I'm not spending a lot of time on it. I think my whole life, I've been preparing for a debate...Basically, you have to be real. You can't cram 30 years of knowledge in your head in one week. There's a little debate prep, but I've always done it more or less the same way. You have to know your subject. And I think I know it better than anybody." When reached by Newsweek for comment, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung reaffirmed Trump's comments and took aim at Harris' lack of sit-down interviews since entering the presidential race. "As President Trump said, he's been preparing all his life and he regularly interacts with the press, which is a form of getting ready, something Comrade Kamala refuses to do," Cheung told Newsweek in an email Monday afternoon. ...

Any time the press asks him a real question he gets up and walks off in a fat huff.

"You have to know your subject. And I think I know it better than anybody."
He's a classic narcissist, so his subject is himself; that's what he' selling.
He's also a traitor to the Constitution and his country, but that doesn't seem to bother his Cult.

Don't believe him. He's trying to subvert expectations. It worked for his debate with Biden.

How do you prepare to get beat like a drum, in the eyes of an observer who is schooled in debate rather than performance art?

@#6 ... Don't believe him. He's trying to subvert expectations. It worked for his debate with Biden. ...
Maybe.
But lowering expectations may not work with VP Harris.
And I suspect fmr Pres Trump (or his campaign) may know that.
I am sure you see the larger level of energy that VP Harris shows compared to Pres Biden or fmr Pres Trump.
imo, that is the major issue fmr Pres Trump faces, and seems to be afraid of, in a debate with VP Harris.
He seems to be old, feeble, and also seems to have a major inability to stay on topic.
If I had to guess, I'd say that the latter is what his campaign would be most concerned with, should he debate.

"You have to know your subject. And I think I know it better than anybody." There has never been a better example for the Dunning-Kruger effect than Donald Trump.

The only knowledge that Trump has practiced all his life is to rattle off a long string of incomprehensible words that he's memorized from sheer repetition.
I disagree with the open mic decision. The host should have the mute option when Trump goes off the rails when his time is up. Like he always does.

He makes up for all that by being loud, forceful, and putting on trowels of makeup. His inability to stay on topic is his brand. What you see as weaknesses his supporters see as strengths. The question is how those that are undecided or are marginal supporters of his will react. Will they be bored? Will they finally have had enough? Will Harris present an optimistic and competent choice to move to - not just away from?
High stakes games, and Trump is always underestimated. Always.

DANNI
This is supposed to be a policy debate but the only policy the Republican Party has is Project 2025 ~ which is something he does know more about than anyone else, his denials to the contrary.
But don't count on him answering any questions about it. It's a hot button talking with Democrats and Trump will be sane enough to play dumb for six minutes.

Biden was obviously not properly prepared for Trumpy's stream of consciousness nonsense.
Trumpy "prepares" by practicing his lies at his rallies. And it worked against Biden. Who was prepared (over prepared apparently) to debate actual policy. Not a rambling stream of lies and insults.
His rambling nonsense and lies and insults will not work against a highly energetic and motivated prosecutor Harris.
My prediction? He will probably back out at the last second citing some nonsensical crap.

No I actually believe him. That is why they are arguing about open mics. His people were feeding him responses last time - he didn't prepare but they did.

You don't need to prepare when your strategy is to open a firehose of lies. You think he needs a team to help him memorize real facts and statistics like biden did?

Huh? He literally didn't have to do anything. Biden was barely understandable at times. The people who put Biden on that stage should be prosecuted for elder abuse.

This debate isn't for the base, it's not to fire anubody up, of course we'll watch, but we were already voting. The Harris people have it perfectly diagnozed, this debate is for the undecided voters and the never-Trump or uncomfortable with Trump Republicans. They dont want to mute the mics because they want to remind those folks why they hate or are uncomfortable with Dotard, and want hin to interrupt her, to talk over her, to fight with the moderators, to act like a bully, then she can tell him to shut his fat ass up. They've studied the 2016 debates and know exactly where HRC went wrong in spite of being seen by the pundits and viewers as easily winning all three debates. This is her chance to show the steel in her spine.

Trump simply lies about everything. Why should this be any different? He is preparing like mad. It won't do him any good because he has no self discipline and his ideas in general are terrible for the average American.

If there will be no on-the-spot fact checking done by the moderator how does Harris have enough time in a timed debate to refute the mountain of Trump lies, a lengthy time consuming job to explain the truth, and on top of that, make her arguments against Trump? She has double duty that may not be able to be done within the alloted response times. She will be in a definite disadvantage esp if she goes second having to respond to the enormous dung heap of lies.
