Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

It was bad enough that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris never said the names of the 13 fallen from the disastrous exit from Afghanistan. It tanked both of their approval ratings. It exposed just how incompetent Joe Biden was as a leader, and Harris, too, who bragged about being the "last person in the room." Why weren't they properly remembered? Probably because Joe Biden and Kamala Harris wanted to deflect from the operation as much as possible. Their indifference was so bad that there was a grassroots effort to get Joe Biden to "say their names.

Never?

So ... you are still spreading Trumpy's lies for him? Why? Surely you can find better paying work.

Statement of President Joe Biden on the Anniversary of the Terrorist Attack Outside Kabul Airport

One year ago, 13 proud and patriotic American service members, as well as more than 100 innocent Afghan civilians, were killed in a heinous terrorist attack at Abbey Gate outside the Kabul Airport. Many more were injured and will carry the impact of their wounds and experiences for the rest of their lives.

Our nation will forever mourn their sacrifice and honor the memory of those 13 precious souls, stolen from their families, loved ones, brothers- and sisters-in-arms far too soon while performing a noble mission on behalf of our Nation:
Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover;
Marine Corps Sgt. Johanny Rosario;
Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole L. Gee;
Marine Corps Cpl. Hunter Lopez;
Marine Corps Cpl. Daegan W. Page;
Marine Corps Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez;
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. David L. Espinoza;
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jared M. Schmitz;
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Rylee J. McCollum;
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola;
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui;
Navy Petty Officer Third Class Maxton W. Soviak; and
Army Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss.

They were beloved sons and daughters, brothers and sisters. They came from all across our land. Each carried with them the pride of their own unique story and the hopes of the loved ones who nurtured them. But they were united by a common call"to serve something greater than themselves. They were heroes, working to save lives as part of the largest airlift evacuation operation in our history. The example of their bravery and selflessness will live forever as a testament to the very best of our American character.

Trump's behavior at Arlington was the scummiest thing I've ever seen.

The various right-wing defenses of his behavior are the second scummiest thing I have ever seen.

If Trump thought he could make sufficient money off of the behavior, he'd piss on the graves.

The finishing paragraphs of President Biden's statement after he named all 13 victims:

Today, I am praying for the families of those 13 fallen warriors, who lost a piece of their soul one year ago. Our nation can never repay such incredible sacrifice - but we will never fail to honor our sacred obligation to the families and survivors they left behind. I am also holding in my heart all those who lost their child, partner, parent, sibling, loved one, or battle buddy over our two decades of war in Afghanistan. 2,461 American troops made the ultimate sacrifice. 20,744 were wounded, so many whose lives are forever marked by their injuries. It is a painful reminder that there is nothing low-cost or low-grade about war for those we ask to fight for us.

I am grateful to all the members of our Armed Forces, veterans, and their families, as well as the diplomats, intelligence professionals, counterterrorism experts, and development specialists who served in Afghanistan and who sacrificed so much to make our nation stronger and safer.

It exposed just how incompetent Joe Biden was as a leader, and Harris, too

Some 65 American service members died in combat while serving Trump during his time in the White House office from January 2017 to January 2021. There were fatalities every year of his presidency, according to the "hostile action" records compiled by the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS), which is maintained by a government defense agency.

Of those 65 deaths, there were 45 combat deaths reported in Afghanistan alone, according to the Associated Press.

Biden has not yet finished his term, and is set to remain in office until standing again for election in November, so a full record of "hostile" deaths is not yet possible.

However, stats for 2021 and 2022 are available, making it possible to assess half of Biden's time in office in terms of "hostile action" deaths.

During 2022, by which time the U.S. had left Afghanistan, there was not a single death caused by "hostile action," according to DCAS. However, 13 were killed in one deadly bombing the year before, during the messy withdrawal from the country.

www.newsweek.com

Does that make Trump and Pence 5 times more "incompetent" than Biden and Harris?

Just wanted to see what metrics you're using here idiot. Every President has troops die under their command while in office. Do we second guess every single death, or only the ones with partisan political expediency while simultaneously ignoring those who died under Trump's command?

One of the gold star moms said Biden and Harris were also invited but they never heard back from the White House.

That's because the President honors all of America's fallen on Memorial Day, the national holiday set aside for just that purpose.

Only an imbecile would fail to realize that their isn't a day on the calendar that some American lost their life in service of our military. A President couldn't get anything else done if they tried to attend ANC for every family's memorial services individually.

Biden, Harris, or Jill attends the return of fallen at Dover and delivers personal remarks to the families. Trump did twice because he got yelled at by a distraught father over his son's death.

And I'm aware that some of these families felt Biden was detached and looking at his watch when they met with him. And I'm not going to dispute what they say. My only question is what was Joe distracted by that day that obviously kept his mind elsewhere?

Presidents can't determine when everything happens no matter how hard they try.

Illegal as in violation of federal law.

It is a violation of federal law to take photos and videos of the site for political purposes. The Army said that the Trump campaign was "made aware of federal laws ... which clearly prohibit political activities on cemetery grounds."

JFC, there have been multiple investigations, none of them able to overcome the manpower shortage that Trump caused by failing to listen to the generals when he lowered troop strength to 2500 before he left office from the 4000 they demanded.

You need manpower for security, and Trump's unforced error left our forces woefully overstretched and outmanned due to Trump's agreement with the Taliban to release 5000 prisoners back into Afghanistan before we left overwhelming the Afghan military forces and led directly to the attack in question.

We also had to relinquish Bagram AFB because of our troop shortage which led directly to the debacle we saw at Kabul's airport.

Because it happened under Biden's watch and orders, he is directly responsible. But this clustertruck had multiple authors, including its leading critic today in complete obliviousness that 65 Americans died in combat during his ignominious administration's reign.

First, this wasn't a campaign photo nor commercial. It was a photograph taken by the media in a manner both legal and befitting the accompanying news story it was printed with. No names were visible on the tombstones and Biden made no political statements nor gestures while he was there.

President Joe Biden "did a campaign ad at the graves in Arlington in 2020."

MOSTLY FALSE

A 2020 Joe Biden campaign ad featured a May 31, 2010, photo of Biden at Arlington National Cemetery.

The day that Arlington National Cemetery picture was taken, Biden was acting as vice president, delivering a speech and participating in a wreath-laying ceremony.

The ad contained a disclaimer that said the use of Defense Department footage does not imply the endorsement of the U.S. military or the Defense Department.

The public can take photos at Arlington National Cemetery without a release from Arlington or the Army Department. But Arlington National Cemetery's media policy prohibits filming or photographing "if it conveys the impression that cemetery officials or any visitor or family member is endorsing any product, service or organization."

The policy also said the cemetery will not authorize "filming for partisan, political or fundraising purposes," citing 32 Code of Federal Regulations 553 of the Hatch Act. That law says "memorial services and ceremonies at Army National Military Cemeteries will not include partisan political activities."

Army blasts Trump trip to Arlington cemetery for violating decorum

The Republican Party nominee for president took part in a wreath laying ceremony at the cemetery, then visited Section 60 of the cemetery, where many troops killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are buried. Shots of Trump smiling and giving a thumbs-up sign alongside service members' tombstones were later used in campaign spots.

The US was still in the middle of the withdrawal. Perhaps Biden had a Situation Room meeting that he didn't want to miss. I admit that I'd find this off-putting too. But him referring to Beau was his attempt at empathy and reminding the families he too suffered a heartbreaking loss of a son due to his service in Iraq.

A person would have to be bereft of compassion to complain about this when every story ever written about Joe tells that Beau's death is something he's never gotten over and haunts him to this day. Still, if Biden were aware of how some felt he would have apologized on the spot, not send his goons out to publicly denigrate the families criticizing him like Trump's people did with the ANC employee assaulted and trashed for only doing her job.

The Trump campaign and some family members of the troops killed at Abbey Gate have also suggested that Ms. Harris and Mr. Biden had been invited to the Arlington ceremony along with Mr. Trump. An aide with the Harris campaign said that the vice president had not been invited and pointed to a statement from Ms. Harris that mourned the slain troops on the third anniversary of the bombing last week. A White House official also said that Mr. Biden was not invited.
Don't you have a shred of dignity left that would keep you from reposting lies and disproven political spin to serve the reprobate Trump?

And here's the truth about the 'grieving families' vouching for Trump's non-political spin on Monday's events:

Mr. Trump and his campaign also posted videos from the family members on social media that similarly attacked Ms. Harris and praised Mr. Trump. Some of those family members had defended Mr. Trump's visit to Arlington in previous statements last week, and some family members were also given speaking roles at the Republican National Convention in July where they criticized the Biden administration's handling of the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The statement made no reference to the altercation with the cemetery official, nor the insults directed against her afterward. It also made no mention of concerns by the family of a Green Beret - as well as the Green Beret Foundation, a veterans' charity - about the Trump campaign filming his gravesite. Master Sgt. Andrew Marckesano, who earned Silver and Bronze Stars during his service, died by suicide in 2020. Other family members of troops buried in Section 60 at Arlington have expressed outrage at the incident.

Nope, just like Trump, the family's only concern was with Trump and criticizing Harris for expressing public outrage at the desecration, not the fact that Trump attended the memorial.

Just more lies, and for the record, I never gaslight. I post links to all the information I present, unlike you, or you wouldn't have bothered reposting the lying post that you did above.

There are more dead servicemen from that horrible event that there are gold star families that support what transpired at Arlington and even if there were additional gold star families that doesn't give them the right to break the law.

Biden posted a picture of himself at Arlington in a campaign ad in 2020. Politifact is gaslighting up a storm as is their wont when "fact-checking" a Democrat and/or leftist. I can set my watch to it.

He didn't.

It's interesting to me, Trump took some pictures at the request of Gold Star families who have earned the right to take pictures if they want.

Lumpers are here having a meltdown over it, going after gold star families, instead of blaming the people who got their sons and daughters killed in the first place.

You can't make this up.

Biden posted a picture of himself at Arlington in a campaign ad in 2020.

A photo taken by an AP photographer in 2010, not a photo taken by Trump's own paid photographer and posted hours later on social media with pointed criticism of his political opponents.

Biden's also contained a disclaimer to any connection or endorsement by the Defense Department. His photo showed no headstone names, no other people, and falls within complete legality. Biden is making no political gestures, as he walks in dignified solitude with his head bowed.

Try that with Trump's grinning thumbs and compare the differences, Mr. False Comparison. Again, with the deceitfulness when given the truth and proper context. This is why I despise your ilk so. You're happily dividing this nation in service of a criminal lunatic.

How do you live with yourself?

Gold Star families who have earned the right to take pictures if they want

Another already disproven lie. This place reeks like Trump's overloaded Depends. The families that invited him spoke at the RNC convention in support of his candidacy, they were not apolitical families at all.

Visit post #44 for the relevant law and stop lying. The Army itself stated Trump violated federal law and written protocols prohibiting exactly what his campaign did.

Lumpers are here having a meltdown over it, going after gold star families

No one is going after Gold Star families - at least have the respect to capitalize the group's name. Not a single families name has been mentioned by anyone on these threads.

What is being criticized is that an already convicted felon AGAIN violated federal laws - including having one of his male goons push aside a female ANC employee rightly doing her job - and he's using the ignorance of those families to defend his own demeaning behavior in failing to show the decorum such a sacred site demands of its visitors.

And by ignorance, I mean the families either don't know or don't care that just because their deceased lie there, they can't unilaterally decide that federal laws and cemetery protocols can be violated simply because they wanted a photo taken.

The rules are not made by the families, they're made by the government, period.

" Trump took some pictures at the request of Gold Star families who have earned the right to take pictures if they want."

And Trump's campaign used those photos, and others from Arlington in a campaign video, out two hours later.

Why did you leave out the part where he broke the law, in a discussion about whether/how he broke the law?

Sounds like DISINFORMATION: Only give the part of the story which supports your narrative.

Could you link to that, please? Not that I doubt you, it just didn't used to be like that, and I'd like to see the author's conclusions and links.

Thanks.

Google is your friend.

Freelance journalists and photographers can obtain press credentials through a number of organizations, including:

National Writers Union (NWU): Offers the NWU Press Pass and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) press pass. The NWU requires evidence of published work, including three print or web pieces in the last two years, or three audio/video pieces or a 15-minute broadcast in the same period.

United States Press Agency (USPA): Offers a press pass for freelancers and part-time journalists.

International Freelance Photographer Organization (IFPO): Issues a photographer press pass that is recognized internationally.

American Image Press: Offers independent press credentials, which require applicants to have published a book or anthology with an independent publisher within the last five years.

Press credentials can allow journalists to attend events behind the scenes, such as sports, entertainment, and breaking news. However, press credentials are not required to take photos or cover events in public places.

Read this as many times as it takes to penetrate your pointed concrete head:

That law says "memorial services and ceremonies at Army National Military Cemeteries will not include partisan political activities."

www.politifact.com

How can I gaslight when I printed that the photo was used in a political ad which is precisely your point?

Gaslighting is not explaining the context of one thing is NOT LIKE another. You continue to prove that you're incapable of simple reading comprehension beyond that of a petulant child chafed at being put in time out by an exasperated teacher for being a complete buffoon during classroom time.

Now go sit in the corner and stop boring this blog's readers with your insipid stupidity. The two situations are not comparable and only diehard Trumphumpers would ever make such a case if they'd been exposed to the true facts regarding both situations.

Suggestion: Change your moniker to Strawlighter. It's a far more honest description of the vast majority of your posts and your favored style. And throw in the Trumpian "I know what I am but what are you" retorts and that exhausts the breadth of your extremely limited abilities of self expression.

Your posts are either strawmen that immediately go up in flames or gaslighting, which you fail to comprehend, confirming your innate inability to express yourself outside of Tourette's-like repetition of already discredited or out of context factoids which you cling to like Linus does his safety blanket.

And how that photo came to be used was 100% legal and drew no comment from the military and violated no federal laws. It was taken by the federal government itself, totally unrelated to any politics or political campaign.

Trump's photos and video DID violate federal law and was condemned by the US Army along with the fact his goons assaulted a federal employee in the course of simply doing the job she was hired to do.

But go ahead Strawlighter, keep digging your hole deeper and deeper. Pretty soon Trump will be in there with you and don't come crying when you're forced to smell his nasty Depends. They smell worse than your reputation does here on the Retort.

Yup.

Taking a step back here...

How many times has the US Army actually officially rebuked anyone for such behavior?

How many times?

I mean, when the US Army seems to be contradicting a pro-military stance, maybe something is wrong with that stance?
