Judge holds Donald Trump in contempt for violating gag order and instructs Trump to "remove the seven offending posts from Defendant's Truth Social account and the two offending posts from his campaign website by 2:15pm Tuesday, April 30,2024." In the order the judge recognized that the $1,000 fine per offense might not be enough and warned that a jail sentence may be needed in the future. "While $1,000 may suffice in most instances to protect the dignity of the judicial system, to compel respect for its mandates and to punish the offender for disobeying a court order, it unfortunately will not achieve the desired result in those instances where the contemnor can easily afford such a fine. In those circumstances it would be preferable if the Court could impose a fine more commensurate with the wealth of the contemnor. In some cases that might be a $2,500 fine, in other cases it might be a fine of $150,000. Because this Court is not cloaked with such discretion, it must therefore consider whether in some instances, jail may be a necessary punishment."

How many criminal defendants who willfully and repeatedly violate gag orders and publicly attack witnesses in their case are merely asked to delete the posts several weeks later and pay a laughably small fine? Throw this POS in jail yesterday.

Being held in criminal contempt could be a bigger problem for Trump than just the $9,000 fine since he's currently under indictment in three other criminal cases, and as part of his bail agreements in those cases, he must avoid violating any state or federal laws. Technically, being held in criminal contempt in the New York hush money case is a violation of New York state law. This means that the prosecutors in those other three cases, Jack Smith in the January 6th insurrection case and the Mar-a-Lago documents case, and Fani Willis in the Georgia RICO case, they could ask the courts to revoke Trump's bail agreements.

Note that while Trump was also fined for violating his gag order in the New York fraud trial, since that was a civil case, that violation did not have an impact on any of his criminal cases.

And now Trump is complaining that his legal team, and in particular his lead attorney, Todd Blanche, is not being aggressive enough with the judge and that they're not asking tough enough questions of the witnesses. He's also complaining that they they're not paying attention to his instructions, that his requests to them are being ignored. He's also complaining that he's being overcharged for the defense that he's been getting. Sounds like he's either getting ready to fire his lawyers, or he's laying the groundwork for arguing that he had inadequate representation if he loses the case and subsequently files an appeal.

"he's laying the groundwork for arguing that he had inadequate representation if he loses the case and subsequently files an appeal."

So isn't it always the case that you have "inadequate representation" if you lose the case?

There is no doubt that Trumpy will appeal a guilty verdict. It's what he does. He will never accept responsibility for losing a case or anything else (like an election) for that matter. It will always be someone else's fault.

While this is a valid point, i feel compelled to remind you that nothing bad ever happens to Donald Trump and that piling on another technical violation of this or that law or order or agreement is meaningless.

And as to the 'freedom of speech' argument...

A judge has the right to keep 'order in the court'.
If someone is bad mouthing the people involved in making the
decision (especially) when the bad mouthing individual is the
accused and threatens both the court proceedings and the
welfare and safety of the jury, it is NOT anti-freedom of
speech to bring the unruly individual back in line with normal
court decorum.

As usual though, the Reich ignores this, and 'cherry picks' the data.

Melania has been noticeably mum about Trump's sexual exploits. I doubt if she cares as long as the credit cards still work.

Rumor is that her marriage contract calls for a 'one and done,' i.e. Barron.

When Trump won the White House in 2016, he only lost by 3 and half million votes. It was in 2020 that he lost by 7 million votes. And with a trend like that, whether you're dealing with a linear or logarithmic progression, Trump could lose in 2024 by either 10 and half million votes or 14 million. Either way, I suspect that that will put to bed, once and for all, the idea that Trump is a TOTAL LOSER. And this is what he fears the most, knowing that history will remember him for being a LOSER. He'd be willing to go to jail, if the history books would record that as his only failing.
