This is about the Palestinian protests... and much more importantly, how much money Jews have given Trump.

The Promise of American Higher Education

Dear Members of the Harvard Community,

The real deal here is that higher level educated people vote Democratic; Education Level being the best predictor of how anyone in the Gen Population will vote. Not age, race, or gender.

The obvious Trump response to that is not to educate do many people. Simple, eh?

No biggie, you can keep both. But you don't have a "right" to $9 billion tax payers dollars either.

Harvard has a $53B endowment - why are we giving them $9B in taxpayer money? At this point, Harvard is not a university, it is a tax-free hedge fund. Cut the free taxpayer money off.

We give Harvard money, and they use the money to go research stuff.
It's a foreign concept to you.
But it's how the United States became the leading high tech economy in the world.

Nothing better than two guys who didn't go to college saying Uncle Sam should be in charge of private collage curriculum, hiring policy, admissions policy, recruiting policy, tenure policy.

You guys should have gone to college.
Then you would have been able to get jobs where your boss wasn't a micromanager
And you'd know there's a better life to be had.

But you don't know that.
And now it's too late for you to learn.

@#6 ... But you don't have a "right" to $9 billion tax payers dollars either. ...

I would agree, if those taxpayer dollars were not politicized, as the Trump admin seems to be doing.

Education in the United States should not be a political discussion, but a discussion on how we educate our children to make the United States the Best Country in the World.

Unfortunately, Pres Trump seems to revel in turning education into a political discussion.

Not only did I attend - I have an advanced degree. But, I see university education for what it has become - a liberal 'make work' program. If that is what Harvard wants to do with its own money - be my guest. But, no more taxpayer teat for them. Frankly, I don't know why you even want to defend Harvard. They would not even piss on you if you were on fire.

"Then you would have been able to get jobs where your boss wasn't a micromanager"

The few times you were gainfully employed, your boss had his first name stitched on his shirt pocket and was in charge of ensuring you cleaned the toilets on schedule.

If Harvard was serious about education, they would make the school tuition free paid for by gains from the endowment fund. They don't - because they aren't.

It's not that Harvard isn't serious about education.

It's that Harvard is very particular about who they want to receive their education and how their school is perceived.

Legacy and large donor admissions are a big big deal to them.

Harvard tries to be ranked very high on various lists.

law school
business school
engineering
medicine
etc...

They want to be ranked high but they also need to balance it with lowering their standards for legacy and donor admissions.

FWIW, their law school recently dropped out of the coveted T3 of law schools.

I believe there are a lot of moderates and liberals who would agree it's not an unreasonable argument to question their tax dollars going to a university miles out of their reach with a $53B endowment.

I don't think that means they support this threat by Trump. I would set that aside completely.

But questioning why are giving $9 Billion to Harvard isn't all that crazy.

#34: Hi Snoofy: Years ago when I was assigned to the Pentagon, a few of us kept track of the vending machines distributed throughout the building. On the night shift, if someone needed a toiletry item, burrito, feminine hygiene product, or cinnamon Tic-Tacs, we knew where to go. One night I stunned the "master" of this occult knowledge when I came back to the 24/7 watch center with a cup of coffee from a Cold War-era vending machine that even took small change. I tasted the antiquity of the black tar. Alas, I was unable to locate an old-style cigarette machine within the sinews of the world's largest building: i.pinimg.com

Hot dog cart? Wow. That was before I was assigned there. The best networking area at the Pentagon was the smoking section in the center. My boss didn't smoke, but he accompanied me just to put his finger in the wind with us chimneys. We smokers knew about things ahead of others because we all kvetched together (e.g. audits, assignments, openings, imminent operations, douchebag bosses, etc).

1.) by forcing people to take classes that were not needed in the past thereby employing social 'science' professors that would otherwise be working at Starbucks and wasting the students' time and money
2.) by inflating the administrative ranks with other non-productive liberals

That is the exact reason that the University business in the US is failing. The value proposition is highly diminished by the universities pumping out useless degrees at prices, lessening the core learning by forcing these useless classes, and with soaring out of the control costs due to the administrative overhead. As a result employment is crashing and small liberal universities are closing at an accelerating rate.

Once student loan reforms happen, the whole system will come crashing down.

They were ubiquitous!

When I was in college we got research grants from various government organizations for specific research. The US Government owned everything at the end of the project. Sometimes it was obvious is was a piece to something else - but what we weren't told. It was never stupid stuff or a waste of money. It was always intentional. There was always a point to it.

This is the problem when we have a complete idiot for a president who surrounds himself with moronic sycophants. Cutting off funding to Harvard is only hurting the United States.
