Harvard has a $53B endowment - why are we giving them $9B in taxpayer money? At this point, Harvard is not a university, it is a tax-free hedge fund. Cut the free taxpayer money off.

Not only did I attend - I have an advanced degree. But, I see university education for what it has become - a liberal 'make work' program. If that is what Harvard wants to do with its own money - be my guest. But, no more taxpayer teat for them. Frankly, I don't know why you even want to defend Harvard. They would not even piss on you if you were on fire.

1.) by forcing people to take classes that were not needed in the past thereby employing social 'science' professors that would otherwise be working at Starbucks and wasting the students' time and money
2.) by inflating the administrative ranks with other non-productive liberals

That is the exact reason that the University business in the US is failing. The value proposition is highly diminished by the universities pumping out useless degrees at prices, lessening the core learning by forcing these useless classes, and with soaring out of the control costs due to the administrative overhead. As a result employment is crashing and small liberal universities are closing at an accelerating rate.

Once student loan reforms happen, the whole system will come crashing down.
