That is typically the process for being rejected at the airport. They are detained (not arrested), interrogated, and then deported. If the next plane out does not leave until the morning, you are spending the night in detention.

An arrest requires probable cause and will result in charging a crime. Detention does not mean a crime was committed. Big difference. Hence, you don't have the same rights. You cannot appeal a denial of entry claim. It has been this was for decades and 1000+ people have this happen every year. You are making a big deal out of this case because Trump is president.

We don't need suspected German prostitutes in the country - so yes, deport them. This story obviously leaves out a ton of details. If you can prove you have the financial means to pay for a hotel - either through cash on hand or proven deposits, they would not have had a problem. If they travelled here for 5 weeks and had no cash or means to pay for a hotel - they are going to be suspected of being prostitutes and rejected. They do the same to Japanese, Koreans, and Filipinas so I am happy to see the policy enforced in a color blind manner. Trump continues to prove he is not a racist.

An 18 and 19 year old girl traveling by themselves without cash or proven sufficient cash in bank accounts instantly makes CBP assume they are here to work illegally - likely as prostitutes. For people that apply for a VISA to the US, they are required to prove this in advance of getting the VISA.

Your credit score is so bad that you never had a credit card, isn't it? Credit cards work like this - the hotel will swipe your card and the room is paid for. A month later, the credit card company will ask you to pay interest and/or the outstanding balance. So, whether you can pay the credit card bill is irrelevant to whether the hotel can accept payment and allow you to stay there.

If you have no cash, bank deposits, or credit cards (which aren't really used in Germany), you are likely intending to work illegally to pay for your stay - probably as a prostitute - and they are tossed out of the country.

And before you say it - YES - I know you don't have any money and YES I do endorse you getting deported to El Salvador despite being a US citizen.
