He wasn't wearing a green suit and hat, but President Donald Trump sounded a Grinch-like warning, suggesting American children may have to settle for fewer toys at Christmas because of his tariffs on products from China. Trump, who has argued that China will bear the brunt of his tariffs, acknowledged during a Cabinet meeting on April 30 that the duties may mean fewer " and more expensive " products available for American families. "You know, somebody said, Oh, the shelves are going to be open,'" he said. "Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls. And maybe the two dolls will cost a couple bucks more than they would normally."

All the liberal tears for the lack of their cheap Chinese made crap products. It is funny - the Dems blame Trump for being controlled by Putin but then turn around and take their marching orders from the CCP and repeat the CCP talking points free of charge.

CCP talking points

The child-raping orange --------- and his favorite hose bag Ivanka can't get enough of those sweet Chinese trademarks.

"the lack of their cheap Chinese made crap products."

The top three Chinese exports to the US are Broadcasting Equipment (including Phones), Computers, and Office Machinery.

You know...crap the Americans can do without.

They are not designed in China or reliant on Chinese chips -------. They are just assembled there. For example, China has NOTHING to do with the iPhone - they just assemble it there under a Taiwanese manufacturer. As we speak, the assembly of iPhone is being shifted to India and by 2026, barring a change in tariffs, iPhones will no longer be made in China. The same is for all consumer electronics, etc.

SCOTTS

Trump is trashing our economy with his tariff war. The same thing happened when McKinley tried it.

Since you don't seem very informed, the Chinese and U.S. are NOT in talks to lower tariffs.

Also, the rest of the world has turned their backs on the U.S. as a stable democracy and safe place to park money.

Trump. One word, one man. He trashed our image. Soon, we'll all be feeling the pain.

SCOTTS is one of those people who thinks the best thing that can happen is for the United States to burn to the ground so that something closer to his nasty, fascist vision can be installed.

People like him are vipers biting the breast that fed them.

This "two dolls" statement for American kids was remarkable.

Soon enough Trump will be called "Donnie Two Meals".

Watching the replay of Old Yeller's yammering, paying attention to affect, what he seemed to be saying was, "Kids? What kids? Oh, those kids, your kids. Well, flock em."

Trump, the anti-Santa:

No Extra Dolls For You, Little Girl

"They made a trillion dollars with Biden selling us stuff. Much of it we don't need. Somebody said, 'oh, the shelves are gonna be open.' Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, and maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more." --Donald Trump, April 30, 2025

I hesitate to speak for Trump voters, but I'm skeptical that this is what they thought the Golden Age would actually mean.

And yet there was our billionaire president--surrounded by the golden gaud of his Trumpified Oval Office-- telling the masses to go without, do with less, and pay more for it.

"Let them have cake," suggested Marie Antoinette. "Let them have two dolls," suggested Donald Trump, as his tariffs slouch toward what looks to be an especially stingy Christmas.

And for kids who last year only got two dolls, maybe this Christmas they can get nothing. Because what little extra income mom and dad had is now going to everything that costs a 'couple bucks more' due to the POS in the White House.

Dolls Smolls.

Kids will not have time for dolls. And they won't be around long enough to play with toys anyway. Toys are for the WEAK. And what happens to the WEAK children? That's right. They FAIL!

There is work to be done in the beautiful clean coal mines that now have no safety inspections. Or the unregulated slathiuses. Or the new American screw factories. Which also will be unregulated with no safety inspectors.

Two-Doll Donnie has no problem telling commoners to be content with less, as long as he and his inner circle can continue to exploit their wealth and power for even greater largesse.

I do not object to rebuilding America's manufacturing base where feasible. We have suffered in some ways by letting that slip away.

But you can't just flip a switch and change the status quo overnight. It's not practical nor moral to try to force an immediate rejiggering of the world's economy after many decades of evolution. You can't just start building factories this week on land that maybe hasn't even been purchased yet or gotten funding in place, or had zoning or infrastructure approved. You'll also have to build a logistics system. And does anybody really think we have all the natural resources we'll need to be fully self-sufficient?

Not to mention the workforce issues. We can't fill jobs now, so what's it going to be like when the new mills and button factories and so on start advertising their openings? Be honest, how many Americans are interested in repetitive physical labor that generally doesn't pay very well? When is the last time an isolationist approach worked?

What the Trumpers like to say is "short-term pain for a long-term gain." But how short is short term? Are we willing to go through years of recession and job loss? Are a few years of breadlines and Hoovervilles OK with everybody? Maybe a few starvations and suicides?

We risk being left far behind, as the rest of the world reconfigures itself to leave us out. And Trump isn't even content with economic changes. He is breaking diplomatic ties with our allies, risking our national security with his daily childish tantrums.

The way to do this would be to start a national conversation, and build a plan that is well thought out, inclusive, and fair to people. Because not everybody can afford to suffer for a few years.
