Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, October 20, 2025

New York City's suburbs have experienced an uptick in housing demand from wealthy residents in recent months, according to local real estate agents, as high earners scared off by Zohran Mamdani's mayoral primary victory look for plan B within a reasonable distance.

Before this year, Mamdani was hardly a household name. Now, the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist state assemblyman is the man most likely to become New York City's next mayor.

They're not clamoring for real estate. They're looking for a place to shelter their wealth - if you bothered to even skim the article.

The pattern in NYC for over a century hasn't changed. When lower income people in Queens "made it," they moved east to "more white" Nassau and Suffolk County; those in Brooklyn moved to "more white" State Island or NJ; those in the Bronx moved to "more white" Yonkers or Westchester County. You can see Nassau County and Staten Island are mini Red States.

Now the rich people in NYC are whining about Zohran Mamdani, a young man who underwent a hunger strike in support of striking NYC taxi drivers.

Poor wealthy people. Sniff, sniff.

Let them leave and pay the higher property taxes in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

The landlord/AIPAC/oligarch/GOP clique in NYC is a MNGA movement to secure NYC from the upstart Mohammedan who is putting runs in the panty hose of the status quo. And that status quo is desperate, throwing everything but the kitchen sink at amiable Zohran.

Mamdani continues holding a double-digit lead over corporate shill Andrew Cuomo, a one-trick pony who incessantly bleats Islamophobic talking points. This Judas Iscariot of the Democratic Party will become a three-time loser in just a matter of weeks and will join the odious club of unwelcome pariahs. .

Oy, gevalt. .

The people that say they are moving out because of potentially higher taxes already pay less percent in taxes on their income than the people they say they are moving because of.

Interesting. So the Ayatollah Mamdani is proposing a wealth Tax?

No. That's not what he's proposing.

Rather, "he has proposed creating an additional tax bracket for New York City residents with income over $1 million, which would be taxed at 5.9%.". The current max is 3.876%. www.cityandstateny.com

My current opinion, based upon the local TV ads I suffer through (I'm in the NYC media area), seems to be that Republicans really have nothing to throw against Mr Mamdani except that they fear he may be successful in being a Mayor of New York City.

That possible success seems to frighten the Republicans and especially, for some reason, MAGA.

"You're against Mamdani using tax dollars to help working class Americans because?"

That's the thing about income taxes. They are basically in many ways a voluntary tax. You must earn the income in the tax region for it to be taxable. Mamdani is hedging his bets that high income earners will not change their behavior in the face of a changing economic environment.

Zohran Mamdani and his administration will have many options. The landlord cabal is fighting hard against him because these oligarchs went to keep rents as high as possible and property taxes as low as possible, as if their billions aren't enough for them. Zohran can raise property taxes from these wealthy people, like poor Dummkopf Trumpf.

If Zohran's administration levies just a ONE CENT tax on every Wall Street transaction made, how many millions will that generate in a year? One AI overview: 1 cent x 3 trillion shares traded = $30 billion per year.

Some cities have 'jock taxes,' raising revenue from their sports venues. NYC has how many sports teams, as well as the US Open?

America's oligarchs excel at two things: 1) Dodging the draft and 2) Dodging taxes. And NYC's superrich are no exception.

Taxes are voluntary?

Is that what the Germans taught you?

You must earn the income in the tax region for it to be taxable.

Oh. I see. They're voluntary because you can always choose not to work?

That's what you're going with, stupid?

Mamdani is hedging his bets that high income earners will not change their behavior in the face of a changing economic environment.

All New Yorkers pay taxes. Now instead of their taxes going to fund the wealthy, their taxes will go into providing services all New Yorkers use.

You live in Germany, think about how they use their taxes.

You really are stupid.

As has been explained, New York City taxes people who work in the city, even if they live in the suburbs.

So this is actually about escaping Kathy Hochul's taxes.

But Republicans are conditioned to hate Muslims, so Ayatollah Mamdani is the target of this psychological warfare operation.

Because YOU HAVE NO CLUE. You didn't even understand THE CONCEPT. Nobody even SUGGESTED taxing Iowans.

But if an Iowan makes money in NYC, they're taxed by NYC and NYS.

Then, their home state MUST CREDIT THEM the amount of taxes they would have charged on that same money, capping at what you paid to NY, or your home-state liability, whichever is less.

"Wait ... your answer is don't earn ANY income???"

You don't have to earn income in NYC, or any other high tax regions.

You can also choose at which point you stop choosing to work, and start using your time for other things. Which is what would likely happen if you massively increased the marginal tax rate on high income earners.

And those goals were met. Briefly.

But like the social security program if nothing is done to manage and improve the system then it is likely to fail. But not only did republicans not do anything to improve Obamacare they actively sought to undermine the law of the land and destroy or repeal (and not replace it).

And lie about it as they constantly do.

What nonsense.

The ACA effectively ended when the mandate was removed.

Republicans basically did NOTHING to fix it (for fear of being primaried), and everything to undermine it.

Compare that to the Republican screw-up when it came to farmers in Trump 2.0: Instead of getting a break on 20% of gross profits, the wording left out the word "profits".

That meant a farmer with $500,000 of income and $400,000 of expenses, instead of subtracting 20% from the 100K profit and paying tax on the $80K, could subtract 20% from the $500K and pay NO income taxes.

Dems voted to fix it immediately.

New York City mayoral candidates to face off in final debate before Election Day
abc7ny.com

... The three candidates running for mayor of New York City will participate in their second and final debate on Wednesday evening before Election Day.

The showdown could be the last and best chance for the candidates to convince voters before they cast their ballots.

While we can expect a spar of words between the candidates, Andrew Cuomo will try and challenge Zohran Mamdani publicly while Curtis Sliwa will try and drum up further support and appeal to New Yorkers.

Some of the candidates' suggestions for the city were revealed Tuesday, including Cuomo who made a pitch for city oversight of the New York City Transit capital budget and Mamdani who laid out his own framework for saving the Department of Education money by streamlining the way contracts are given out.

In the backdrop of Wednesday's debate are the growing calls for Sliwa to drop his mayoral bid. ...

Cuomo has tried to appeal to his conservative base, saying he'd give Sliwa a job in his administration if elected.

Meanwhile, a new poll from AARP and Gotham Polling shows Mamdani continues to hold a strong lead over Cuomo at 43.2%. Cuomo trails at 28.9%, and Sliwa at 19.4%. ...

Finally? The whole point of ObamaCare was to increase the middle mans profits, it was literally written by insurance lobbyists.
www.tandfonline.com

The ACA effectively ended when the mandate was removed.

This is an excuse, since 2013 the number of people without health insurance has been halved to around 7%.
California effectively has the mandate and it has had no effect on premiums. There's no way adding more regulations written by the insurance industry was going bring down the cost of healthcare.

ACA had little to no effect on premiums rise, but added alot of regulations. It killed the PoH (Dr owned hospitals). Why?

If America wants better healthcare Abundance is the way, add more Dr's (AMA restricted) and hospitals (remove PoH restrictions from ACA).

But. No it wasn't "the whole point".

It was the result.

Obviously (except to haters obviously) the point of Obamacare was to as MSGT even pointed out in his (GOOGLE AI Overview) was to increase health insurance coverage, lower healthcare costs, and improve the quality of care for Americans.

But the result was different because not one single republican in Congress was interested in helping Americans improve the quality of healthcare or get better and more affordable healthcare.

And MY POINT since you have appeared to completely miss it or ignore it was that we could be paying less with better healthcare options if not for republicans.

A VAT tax and universal health care would completely eliminate the middleman that Obamacare was unable to accomplish thanks to racist republicans.

Sure it has; that's in the equation. With no mandate, you'd lose amounts of the young and the healthy, and premiums would have to rise.

The mandate is central; every time Republicans have sat down to address coverage, they've concluded a mandate is needed for any chance of success.

Not true at all. Here's what actually happened: in the decade before Obama care, inflation was up 31%, and medical inflation was up 131%. That's four times the rate of inflation. Trustees for health plans everywhere we're freaking out; I know: I was a trustee for a health plan and we were freaking out.

Not only was the inflation trajectory unsustainable, but it looked like there was nothing that could've bend the curve downward. In addition, the baby boomers were all on the precipice of being thrown into high risk pools, since just about everyone had a pre-existing condition. The year before O'Care, married friends of ours were tossed into a HRP because she'd just survived breast cancer. They were paying $5000 a month, at a time when Cobra was ~$600.

As regulars here know, I've been against Obamacare since the beginning. But I always said I would give the ACA props if it bent the inflation trajectory downward.

It did.
