James Talarico Wins Texas Democrat Primary

Wednesday, March 04, 2026

James Talarico defeated Dallas-based US Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic Senate primary. While neither Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton or US Senator John Cornyn reached 50 percent of the vote so the two will face each other in May to determine will represent Republicans in the Texas Senate race in the November general election.

"Here are five takeaways from the voting in Texas - in what is just the start of months of primary campaigning across America.

Crockett performed well in Texas's major metropolitan areas - including her home city of Dallas as well as Houston - and the eastern portion of the state, with its large black population.

But Talarico carried suburbs with affluent white liberals and areas with large numbers of Hispanic voters " including San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley along the US-Mexico border.

"The people of our state gave this country a little bit of hope," Talarico said in his election night speech before the result came in. "And a little bit of hope is a dangerous thing."

Later, when his primary victory was called, Talarico said in a statement that "we're about to take back Texas"."

I bet NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani took time to congratulate James Talarico.

Like Curtis Sliwa (R) in NYC who publicly condemned an injustice against Zohran (a threat against him and his family), so did James in his speech about Jasmine (voter suppression).

Give her time; last night she was a victim of purposeful voter suppression. You'd be pissed, too.

One report had 486 votes cast at that precinct, and 400 voters redirected to a different polling place. Old rules were you could vote ANYWHERE there was poll open.

More votes got suppressed by Texas yesterday than ALL their vote-fraud convictions listed on the Heritage Foundation compendium, going back three decades.

Voters said they were pretty happy with both candidates, and would have support whomever won against the Complete Criminals on the Republican side.

And apparently the Voter Suppression for both candidates was obvious to voters... and something we are going to see on a grand scale in November... well, if there's actually an election then.

The GOP wanted Crockett to win this primar and she probably would have until the White House tried to block Talarico from appearing on Colbert. Despite not being televised, his interview ended up being the most watched one that Colbert has ever done and gave Talarico's campaign a late game donation infusion. Not only did they end up helping Talarico win, they gave him a nearly 3 month head start on general election campaigning because the GOP couldn't settle on a candidate and have to go to a runoff in May.

Between this and the state's poorly thought out redistricting of Texas it is looking like the GOP may have really screwed the pooch on their handling of Texas this year.

I am sure that was incredibly frustrating in a place so large because why should I have to drive all the way from work to a polling place in my district rather than going to the place nearest my work on my lunch break? There are measures in place that prevent the same voter from voting twice without treating people like that.

You're welcome. The odds of neighbor/schoolmate being there, out of 100 guys, halfway around the world, and as about as far from anywhere else on Earth as one can get, must be infinitesimal.

Diego Garcia back then was like something out of the movie "South Pacific." Rustic huts built from corrugated steel and no windows because of the 2' gap between the walls and ceiling. And a million coconut crabs infesting the jungle that Christmas night, constantly shooing them off with sticks only to have them scamper back aiming for our Achilles Heels. We walked into a clearing and one of the guys shined his flashlight across a the small rise. It looked like Woodstock for coconut crabs. So named for crushing open coconuts with their big claw.

Very memorable experience (as you might imagine)

That must have been fun and interesting.

Our group (5 women, 4 piece band) played all smaller installations. As few as 10, and no more than 150 or so.

The other standout gig with the USO was the UN Joint Security Area in Panmumjom, Korea, a small area in the DMZ that's split down the middle between North and South Korea. We played for most of the approx. 80 U.S. personnel stationed there. They were the best and brightest big guys in the military. We even walked inside NK in the one building where that's allowed (Trump greeted Kim Jun Un alongside it at the beginning of their short lived bromance.

This happened while much of South Korea was under marshal law due to a recent NK attack there. Very tense. First and only time I had to read about incursions and sign a "Death Waiver" in the event NKs killed or kidnapped us, both of which they'd done in the previous 2 months. Me and the guys waved and scratched our eyes with our middle fingers as the NKs shot film of us from across the street.

We played the Tri-State area, but couldn't make it, so we broke up and they continued with college.

I drummed for another band, more punk, than my softer side preferred, (e.g. Misfits, Ramones).

Not much sophistication, but loud and fun.

Hence my lengthy university experience.

I have photos of my bands in my kitchen and den and people who visit can't believe that's me decades ago.

No music tracks survived though, even though we used to rehearse at Monkey Hill Studio (and other places).

Today, Smartphones make instant, secure history for us, evidence for future generations.

Talarico pointing to the billionaire class who "own the media .... own the politicians ..." as the reason people are struggling resonates with a lot of voters of all stripes.

The economy's the #1 issue. Focusing on the WHY and more importantly the "WHO" is responsible for their fiscal downturn resonates on both sides of the aisle. According to Tuesday's primary, he got a considerable number of Republican votes. Heck, he won a +17 Trump district. Republicans who aren't Trump-MAGA true believers are and growing more and more uncomfortable with him. Everyone's feeling the hits from Trump's tariffs and now this war right in the pocketbook.

Talking about WHO are responsible for Americans getting hosed seems like a good message for Dems to focus on in the midterms. A majority of Americans see Trump spiraling and everything he's touching turning FUBAR. However, now even hicks can feel it in their own lives as costs grow and paychecks don't keep up, while corporations and the top reap rig the system to get even richer at everyone else's expense.
